Read an article/interview Meatloaf did and he was saying that he won’t ever tour again, can barely get out of a chair etc

AIBU to listen to his music and be upset I’m not going to see him in concert ever again?! I’m 24 and only got to see him once! Sad

What singers / bands make you feel that way? Smile

EllenJane. sorry you were stuck in the jam, I think the same happened when Robbie Williams played there and people got stuck in traffic jams. Getting out of Knebworth was the worst ever also, was a big crush to get out in the dark and quite scary and it was rammed, took hours to get to car. I sometimes think back to that when I go to places, and not in a good way. Queen were absolutely brilliant though, Status Quo also very good.

LittleCandle · 25/07/2018 08:35

Meatloaf was one of the first gigs I was allowed to go to in 1983 and he was great. (One of his backing singers was the guy who played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, Ted Neely).

I am gutted that I never saw Queen. Freddie Mercury was an outstanding talent and I certainly don't want to see Adam Lambert perform with Brian and Roger.

I was fortunate enough to see Neil Diamond a couple of years ago, after having to miss a concert of his due to DD1 being hospitalised about a decade before. He has now given up touring. I saw Elton John 2 years ago and now he has announced one last tour before retiring. I saw Billy Joel in June and he was as fantastic as ever, although spent most of the gig sitting at the piano, understandably.

It is one of the sad facts of getting old, that our musical heroes have also become older and some of them have gone long before their time.

I saw Meatloaf back in the 90s - really great concerts both of them.

Sad that I never saw Queen live - was too young for their concerts.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 25/07/2018 09:03

I'm so sure Meatloaf has Parkinson's.
The last few tours have been a struggle for him and his vocals have been a jumbled mess.

Neil diamond stopped touring too

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 25/07/2018 09:06

I certainly don't want to see Adam Lambert perform with Brian and Roger.

I saw Roger, Brian and Paul Rodgers in 2008, it wasn't bad, but they were no Queen.

Queen stopped touring in 86 the year before I was born.

ArkAtEee · 25/07/2018 09:22

Prince. Had tickets to one of his gigs at the O2 in 2007, but was struck with a serious illness the day before. Never had the chance to see him after, then he sadly died :-/ I suppose at least there are concert videos.

RedDwarves · 25/07/2018 09:27

I'll never get to see Led Zeppelin live because they split 14 years before I was born, and have no intention of regrouping even for a one off.

I am okay with that, honestly. They are the greatest band of all time, IMO, but I am happy to "remember" them as they were, rather than have my perceptions reshaped by a regrouping of men who are now in their late 60s.

Oscha · 25/07/2018 09:30

I saw Meatloaf about 15 years ago and there were a few moments where he looked so ill, I was scared he was going to have a heart attack on stage. Still one of the all time greatest performers though.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 25/07/2018 09:39

I'm so glad that somebody else misses Richard Griffiths, he was a superlative actor, ditto Alan Rickman. I really miss them both.

Freddie Mercury still makes me cry, what a talent he was. I also cry when I hear George Michael's 'A Different Corner'.

I like to imagine I have a hugely vivid imagination that there's a massive theatre wherever they are, and nothing has changed for them, they know they're still celebrated and the 'newbies' are welcomed to 'the crew'...

It's funny, I don't really believe in life after death - but I do for them, the eternal performers. Star

Lipsticktraces · 25/07/2018 09:45

I’ll never see the Manic Street Preschers with Richey Edwards again. I’ve never gotten over it even though he disappeared in 1995.

I also can’t believe REM split up. I’ve seen them live twice, one of the best bands ever. Michael Stipe has the voice of God.

SadieHH · 25/07/2018 09:48

I passed up the chance to see Adam Lambert last year for the same Freddie-loyal reason and apparently he's amazing. Not Freddie of course, no one ever could be nor does he pretend to be, but a fantastic show in itself. Really wish I'd gone.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 25/07/2018 10:17

Ohh, thanks for the Elton heads-up Little, I've just bought tickets for Elton in Amsterdam next June on the back of your info. It had totally passed me by that he was doing a farewell tour.

TitsalinaBumSquash · 25/07/2018 10:25

I have kind of seen Linken Park, they were meant to headline a Metal festival but got booed off the stage (was an awful booking for the event!)

I wish I'd seen Michael Jackson, I love his music.

My DH's favourite gig he's been to was Meatloaf.

SecretWitch · 25/07/2018 10:28

It was long ago and far away.....Saw Meat preform twice in the nineties. I used to put his music on and pretend I was in a video with him.

MrFMercury · 25/07/2018 11:14

I'd have loved to see Freddie Mercury and Queen, Nirvana, Prince, Pink Floyd, Amy Winehouse, Jeff Buckley and although Madness still tour a lot, I'd love to see them without massive rudeboys throwing pint pots of piss around during the performance.

haverhill · 25/07/2018 11:18

I was at Reading in 1992 when it rained torrentially the whole time. We were so cold and muddy that we packed up and left just as Nirvana were starting their set. I clearly remember thinking oh well, I can see them another time.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 25/07/2018 11:19

Madness still tour a lot, I'd love to see them without massive rudeboys throwing pint pots of piss around during the performance.

Madness took a big hit recently when the only one who could hold a tune live left, without Chas harmonising Suggs vocals are all over the place.

PurpleTigerLove · 25/07/2018 11:21

Can’t think of anyone but I never really did get the whole ‘live ‘ gig .

chezbot · 25/07/2018 11:24

Not RTFT but if you're in London OP I believe Meatloaf is at Comic con this weekend? Get a bear hug and a photo?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 25/07/2018 11:31

Queen were something amazing in that they never really tried to perform their songs like on the albums, they totally reinterpreted them for the live setting, the musical arrangement, the harmonies, the tempo for most songs were totally different when performed live.

Watch Freddie do Under Pressure, where he takes both he and Bowies bits, (Roger harmonies the high bits with Freddie doing them half an octave or so lower.), It's vastly different to the album or how Bowie interprted the song live, which tries to match the Album with it's slower tempo and second singer.

Samcro · 25/07/2018 11:33

sad i never saw queen. and very sad that I didn't see Avenged Sevenfold with the Rev in it. saw them after he died and they were defiantly missing something. \love Meatloaf saw him in the 80's and he was brilliant.
obviously David Bowie.

CookieSue222 · 25/07/2018 11:43

Another vote for the fabulous REM - best band ever to come out of the USA (IMHO). Seen them several times in UK - they were absolutely brilliant (and just so cool) - sad not to be together anymore, but at least they are still with us (pursuing own projects).
Sadly not so Kirsty McColl, whose untimely (and unjust) death left this world a poorer place. She had the most beautiful voice.
Also loved Mr Loaf too, despite my little brother (some 30+ years ago) playing Bat out of Hell at 50 decibels on a Sunday morning after I had been out 'on the tiles' the night before.

Greenteandchives · 25/07/2018 11:46

Those of you calling Meat Loaf ‘Meatloaf’ are all unreasonable. He hated that! He was always adamant it was two words.

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 25/07/2018 11:48

The Rocky Horror Picture Show credits him as "Meatloaf".Grin

ineedaholidaynow · 25/07/2018 11:53

Always regret not seeing Queen in concert Sad I had the opportunity to go and see them at Knebworth in 1986 but for some reason decided I didn't want to go Shock. However, reading this thread I might have just ended up sitting in a traffic jam
