Read an article/interview Meatloaf did and he was saying that he won’t ever tour again, can barely get out of a chair etc

AIBU to listen to his music and be upset I’m not going to see him in concert ever again?! I’m 24 and only got to see him once! Sad

What singers / bands make you feel that way? Smile

Freddie Mercury
Amy Winehouse
Linda Ronstadt - she has lost her voice due to Parkinson's disease

MsRinky · 24/07/2018 19:06

I saw Amy Winehouse a dozen or so times. When she was up, she was superlative and when she was down it was heartbreakingly sad.

Go see Nick Cave and Patti Smith whilst you still can, I think they are the best live performers out there today.

WhentheDealGoesDown · 24/07/2018 19:07

Saw the Smiths in 1984 at Glastonbury, Queen at Knebworth in 1986, Lou Reed sometime in the 80s, David Bowie 1983 and 1990, Tom Waits 1985

The 80s were obviously good

frankie001 · 24/07/2018 19:15

Meatloaf is at Comicon in London this Sunday, granted he won’t be singing but you can meet him for a photo. (For a price!)

SilverySurfer · 24/07/2018 19:19

KinkyAfro
Freddie Mercury, best singer there ever was....ever

Agree, the very best. My interest in music died after he did and I couldn't name a single band from the last couple of decades.

SilverySurfer · 24/07/2018 19:20

Forgot to add Alan Rickman - he was peerless on stage or screen.

PavlovianLunge · 24/07/2018 19:29

George Michael
Kirsty MacColl
The Smiths - and as much as I loved him, I wouldn’t go to see Morrissey now.

Leesa65 · 24/07/2018 19:31

Well at least you did see him OP and that's something

I , too, am a fan of Meatloaf and never seen him live.

Such sad news about him.

WhentheDealGoesDown · 24/07/2018 19:31

I think out of everyone I have seen my best memory is having an aisle seat very near the front of Leonard Cohen concert in 2013 and then standing at the front for the encore. And I so would have Grin

madamginger · 24/07/2018 19:47

I saw meatloaf twice and he was amazing. I’ve loved his music since I was 12 years old, none of that pop music for me.
I would have loved to see Bowie, I’m really sad that I won’t, also the smiths before morrissey turned into a total knobhead.

theliverpoolone · 24/07/2018 20:11

So envious of everyone on here who saw Leonard Cohen Sad. Think I'll have to look on You Tube for some of his gigs. Every time I listen to him it makes me sad he's no longer here.

IKnowItsTIMHONKSTIMHONKS · 24/07/2018 20:15

I am eternally grateful that I was able to see Linkin Park twice. They were my first ever favourite band when I was about 11. Saw them at download 2007 for the first time, then again at download 2014 when they played hybrid theory in full and I wanted to cry, with happiness. I had like a weeks mourning after he died.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 24/07/2018 22:13

I was a big fan of Buddy Holly in my formative years (still love his music now). I was always very sad that I'd never get to see him perform live, but as he died 18 years before I was born, it was never going to happen.

Also Roy Orbison - I think I was about 12 when he died and I was always envious of my parents' having seen him live (before I was born) and realising then that I never would. What an incredible voice and such emotion.

I was also a big fan of Del Shannon (cue all of the younger MNers wrinkling their brows and asking "Who?!?!?!") when I was growing up and it hit me irrationally hard when he died in 1990. It would have been bad enough if he'd died of natural causes (he was only 55), but he shot himself, reportedly because he couldn't live with the fact that his star had fallen and that he was no longer 'famous'. I don't know if he toured the UK much, or at all, and he was never going to go down as one of the all-time greats, but his songs, his voice and, most of all, the beautiful mix of vivaciousness and sadness in his voice always really just grabbed me and never left.

blueangel1 · 24/07/2018 22:28

Freddie Mercury for me too - I only ever got to see him once.

I also regret never seeing Emerson, Lake and Palmer as two of them are dead now.

bluemascara · 24/07/2018 22:31

George Michael
Breaks my heart 💔
I'm so grateful that I seen him in 2007 on his 25 live tour.
What an amazing talent... and a complete sexy bastard

CocoaGin70 · 24/07/2018 22:32

I saw Prince in London for my best mates 16th birthday.

It was the first big concert I'd ever been to (Wembley Arena) and it was incredible. One of those "shit am I really here" moments. I've never forgotten it.

So sad he's no longer here. A truly gifted musician and singer.

bluemascara · 24/07/2018 22:34

I'm loving the love for George Michael on this thread. I'm glad I'm not alone. I've cried buckets over him...

hottotrotsky · 24/07/2018 22:40

Jeff Buckley.

BestIsWest · 24/07/2018 22:42

I saw James Taylor live last week. He was fantastic - he’s brilliant live but I did think, he’s 70 now. Will he ever come back to the UK? I’ll probably never see him live again. And I felt quite sad.

mavydoes · 24/07/2018 22:44

Snoopey · 24/07/2018 23:01

@Jengnr - aww he was wasn't he. I saw him on both the contraband and libertad tours - amazing.

CantankerousCamel · 24/07/2018 23:03

Queen, must have been an incredible show

The original pink floyd complete with lashings of 60s psychedelic things...

Massive attack

Pennina · 24/07/2018 23:13

Tom Petty Sad

EllenJanethickerknickers · 24/07/2018 23:23

Really regret not going to see Queen at Knebworth in 1986. I was stuck in the traffic jam with lots of the fans on their way to see them, so jealous.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 24/07/2018 23:26

Queen for sure. And Meat Loaf - I saw him in the 90s and it remains one of the best gigs I have been to (and I have been to a lot!)
