to think that eating lots of seeds could be dangerous healthwise

I'm into primal / clean eating and eat lots of seeds (sunflower, ground linseed, pumpkin) each day. Is this dangerous healthwise? Am I setting myself up for nasty health issues - gut? bladder?

OP posts:
HappySeven · 23/07/2018 22:10

Why would it be dangerous?

sexnotgender · 23/07/2018 22:11

Only nasty thing will be your poo! I made super seedy bread and I could have pebble dashed the wallsConfused

Confused

Well, they won't grow into weeds in your stomach, if that's what you're worried about?

But I doubt they're remotely 'primal' as I imagine they're cultivated versions of crops engineers over thousands of years.

Does that help?

wellBeehivedWoman · 23/07/2018 22:11

Wtf is primal eating?

I doubt you're eating enough to risk any negative health effects, but some seeds are high calorie because they contain a lot of oil. Seeds are generally healthy though.

You sound a bit anxious OP. Hope you’re ok.

Given that you have (presumably) already restricted your diet quite a lot, I don’t think it would be good for you to restrict it further. There’s a really good ‘ask me anything’ thread with a dietician. You could ask her, she’s super helpful.

megletthesecond · 23/07/2018 22:15

It won't do you any good if your stomach is sensitive to high fibre foods. Otherwise it's fine.

bluerunningshoes · 23/07/2018 22:17

they are very calorific as they (usually) contain a lot of oil.
some also contain harmful substances (arsenic) so should not be eaten in large quantities.

elQuintoConyo · 23/07/2018 22:17

I once had an apple grow out of my bum. Honest guv'nor.

Primal eating - is that meatloaf made of neanderthals?

SoyDora · 23/07/2018 22:17

What would be dangerous about it?

nocoolnamesleft · 23/07/2018 22:18

Are you thinking about brazil nuts and selenium toxicity? Even with that, you'd really have to eat quite a lot of them.

MissusGeneHunt · 23/07/2018 22:20

@sexnotgender yes indeed!!! GrinGrin I'm a sunflower seed fan but by god the effects are positively nuclear!!!

MissusGeneHunt · 23/07/2018 22:22

@OP.... WTAF is primal eating? Is this the Paleo diet?

Teaformeplease · 23/07/2018 22:22

Anyone with diverticulitis should avoid eating seeds but apart from that I can't think of any reason why not.

missyB1 · 23/07/2018 22:25

As pp said if you have diverticular disease then seeds can get trapped in there and potentially set off infections. But other than that crack on with your bird diet.

EdWinchester · 23/07/2018 22:41

Lol at primal eating.

Sure you'll be fine, OP although you sound like a budgie.

ArseholesOnToast · 23/07/2018 22:57

Aflatoxins and phytic acid might get you OP!

9amTrain · 23/07/2018 23:14

Anxious? Hope OP is ok?

...Over some seeds?! Hmm

CannuckTheCrow7 · 23/07/2018 23:16

It’s something assholes say out of faux-concern to suggest the OP has mental health issues.

waterlego6064 · 23/07/2018 23:58

Fucking hell Canuck, you’ve r as me COMPLETELY wrong.

waterlego6064 · 24/07/2018 00:00

‘Read me completely wrong’ that should say.

Asshole eh? How unnecessarily rude. (The word is ‘arsehole’ by the way).

I have health anxiety. I thought I recognised signs of it in what the OP was saying. I also wondered about orthorexia/eating disorders.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 24/07/2018 00:00

You might grow an internal tree.

waterlego6064 · 24/07/2018 00:01

If you could apologise for calling me an asshole [sic] that would be appreciated Cannuck as it was completely uncalled for.

CannuckTheCrow7 · 24/07/2018 03:39

That’s the correct spelling where I’m from.
