to think that eating lots of seeds could be dangerous healthwise

I'm into primal / clean eating and eat lots of seeds (sunflower, ground linseed, pumpkin) each day. Is this dangerous healthwise? Am I setting myself up for nasty health issues - gut? bladder?

OP, if you need to ask MN for advice then it seems you haven’t researched your diet very well.

If you’re on one of those absurd raw food diets, no, it’s not healthy. Nuts and seeds are packed with vitamins but they’re also packed with calories. That’s ok if you just eat a handful here and there, but if you’re grinding them up to use as the main ingredient to make breads and slices and smoothies and every other thing, yes, that’s too much and you will gain a lot of weight.

It’s not hard to find a healthy diet. Fad diets are all nonsense. Mostly veg and fruit, a bit of meat if you must and some grains. Stay away from heavily processed foods. It’s not rocket science.

CannuckTheCrow7, Canadians say arse and arsehole too.

CannuckTheCrow7 · 24/07/2018 04:47

In some regions, sure.

Iwasjustabouttosaythat · 24/07/2018 05:19

Correct spelling is not regional. 😂

waterlego6064 · 24/07/2018 05:22

Yes, I was being facetious about assholes and arseholes Grin

Feel like admitting you were wrong about my first post?

waterlego6064 · 24/07/2018 05:24

OP, here’s the dietician AMA: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/AMA/3309953-Im-a-Dietitian-ask-me-anything

Peterrabbitscarrots · 24/07/2018 07:15

Just don’t eat too many at once. I once ate a whole bag of mixed seeds and had the most horrendous eggy burps and splattery diarrhoea for 36 hours afterwards, it was excruciating

TroysMammy · 24/07/2018 07:26

It's day 2 of making my own muesli consisting of oats, dried apricots, cranberries, sultanas, flax seeds, nuts and sunflower seeds. I've just been to the toilet with what can be described as liquid. I haven't got a stomach bug so it must be the change of diet.

MariaWaria · 24/07/2018 07:59

Didn't mean to imply any anxiety or crazyness Hmm but had heard that seeds can get 'lodged' in the bladder etc.

I'll ask the helpful dietitian and seek to ensure I don't imply I've got mental health issues - thanks for the link Smile

Seeds couldn't possibly get into your bladder unless you are shoving them up your wee-hole.

vandrew4 · 24/07/2018 08:15

how the frig are seeds going to get in your bladder?

BlackeyedSusan · 24/07/2018 08:19

assholes/arseholes either is going to be underpressure and on fire...

waterlego6064 · 24/07/2018 08:53

I don’t understand how seeds could get into the bladder either. Very odd.

Sorry I misread your tone OP. Very glad you don’t suffer with anxiety- I must be projecting!

SoyDora · 24/07/2018 08:55

Are you poking them up your urethra? If so, then yes they could be a risk to your health.

Cailleach · 24/07/2018 09:03

In your bladder?!!! When did you last see seeds in your wee?! How on earth do you think that can possibly happen? Only fluids can pass through your kidneys and into your bladder...

3stonedown · 24/07/2018 09:06

I don't know about your bladder but from experience I would say don't eat a whole back of sunflower seeds in one go unless you want to spend the next day on the loo Blush

Are you poking them up your urethra Grin Grin Grin

Ansumpasty · 24/07/2018 09:09

They irritate my intestines and make my bum bleed so I don’t eat seeds. If they don’t do that to you, I can’t see how they could hurt otherwise!

Mominatrix · 24/07/2018 09:11

If you are poking things up your urethra, you have quite a few more worries than just worrying about eating nuts.

Mominatrix · 24/07/2018 09:14

OP, here is a very basic explanation of your urinary system. Please educate yourself. is a visual if that is easier for you.

Cailleach · 24/07/2018 09:50

PS: nuts and seeds are incredibly high in calories.

Gilead · 24/07/2018 10:17

Occasionally, very occasionally seeds can become stuck in diverticular pouches, tends to happen to older people.

yogima · 24/07/2018 10:42

Thanks @Mominatrix . That's home educated DS's human biology lesson for the day sorted Wink
