Not that I’m against it - I’m just curious really!

OP posts:
9amTrain · 22/07/2018 23:25

@TheGreatCornholio yes, but read the thread and you will see the OP was a non-mum herself... and it was asked out of curiosity, not in an accusatory way.

Branleuse · 22/07/2018 23:25

i am a parent, but i dont really do the parenty boards on here much and thats not why im on here. Im on here because its such a fast paced board and diverse group of women (mainly) I think its always got interesting things to read

Storm4star · 22/07/2018 23:27

My kids are grown up but weirdly it was the daily fail that brought me here! Saw so many threads from here on their website that I thought hmm what is this mumsnet? I should check it out 🤣

CheeseGirl4 · 22/07/2018 23:30

I don't have kids. I like them, but didn't want them, I'm not entirely sure why I'm here. Would you prefer us to leave?

redcarbluecar · 22/07/2018 23:31

This seems a strange question to ask, given the easily visible range of topics and forums. I don't have children but find some of the discussions and differences of opinion fascinating, including some of the parenting threads. I also like the way people bring everyday issues and dilemmas here just to get a few perspectives.

Rachel0Greep · 22/07/2018 23:32

Nobody has ever asked this question before Wink... #notamum...

GreatWesternValkyrie · 22/07/2018 23:34

In my defence the blurb underneath the mumsnet logo on the top left hand side states “by parents for parents”...

It’s just a slogan, it’s not The Law Wink

givemesteel · 22/07/2018 23:49

Facebook started out as being for US college grads to keep in touch post graduation.

Carphone warehouse, well I guess it started out selling Carphones.

To name two examples.

In the world of tech, things move on to become much more than their original purpose.

Mumsnet I think probably still has its core in parenting issues but all aspects of life are covered so it's natural that it will appeal to non parents, fathers, grandparents, whoever.

Judydreamsofhorses · 22/07/2018 23:54

I googled a beauty product and ended up on S&B. Stayed there, and found “friends” among the long running perfume threads. I occasionally dip in and out of active posts like this one.

Gorrillagirlfanclub · 23/07/2018 06:43

I don't have kids and I've always felt like a naughty imposter! Glad there's plenty of other people like me. I'm here because I found a thread via Google. I enjoy the range of conversation with mainly women. Also love AIBU!

chestylarue52 · 23/07/2018 11:58

It’s so hard to find spaces in life and online where women’s voices are the main ones! That’s why I love it.

longwayoff · 23/07/2018 12:14

My children are grown up. It's nice to find somewhere that's pretty much a women's forum that doesn't get too precious about things.

KittyKlaws · 23/07/2018 12:17

I'm a mum but I rarely post about my kids - they are a bit older now and I don't have the same need for advice. I like it here for all the other stuff (TV, books, witty women, FWR board...) so I imagine they are here for all that other stuff like me.

WelshieBach · 23/07/2018 12:26

Got an account when started TTC to chat to people about it and ask questions, as my friends aren't really in the same place with that, haven't had any luck but so many topics on here I find myself browsing most days on topics totally unrelated to conception.

wrenika · 23/07/2018 13:01

I joined cause I was directed here from other forums often enough for crazy threads, so I decided it was quicker just to come directly here and see the crazy first hand. I don't have kids. I don't like kids.

Bluesheep8 · 23/07/2018 13:10

I'm another one who discovered the site on googling something...farrow and ball paint I think. I don't have children, nor have I ever wanted any. I like the site because of all the diverse opinions on a wide variety of subjects and the laughs. My opinions on the topics I get involved in are as valid as anyone else's. I don't go on any of the boards like ttc for example because I have nothing to contribute.

TheGoddessFrigg · 23/07/2018 13:19

I love this site because it's one of the few places on the internet that's predominantly WOMEN.

MustBeThin · 23/07/2018 13:32

I first joined because I'd been reading the massive MFP thread that ended up turning into about 6 or 7 continued threads. I read the first few over Christmas 2015 and joined Jan 16 to post and get support from the lovely people who posted there. I ended up losing over 3 stone and kept it off. I stayed because it's great and I love a good parking thread. Grin

User183737 · 23/07/2018 13:35

I wonder the same about men. Particular considering there is a disproportinate ratio of men to women on the sex topic, in comparison to the rest of the site. Says it all.
I wouldnt, as a woman, even consider joining something calked 'dadsnet'. It would be weird.

umpteennamechanges · 23/07/2018 13:38

I joined to take part in the TTC board a few years back...first time round we tried for 5 months with no success and then I was made redundant and had to take a break.

Second time around had a miscarriage.

Hoping to start again now but this has all spanned about three years.

stevie69 · 23/07/2018 13:39

I came because a colleague recommended AIBU?. She said it would provide comfort in the form of a sanity check — and confirm that I'm not as crazy as I perceived myself to be Blush

It worked. I like it here. I stayed Smile

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 23/07/2018 13:40

For Bridezilla threads.

Worth their weight in gold.

TheSecondMrsAshwell · 23/07/2018 13:42

Actually any "zilla" thread really. If I need any advice on how to behave really badly, there are some total legends described on here.

thecatsthecats · 23/07/2018 13:44

I was a member of a different forum, but...

  1. the number of posters/posts was declining
  2. the quality of posters was iffy at best (sexism plus general lack of inteligence)
  3. the range of discussion topics was poor (I found MN looking for house buying advice as a FTB)
  4. I can swear freely here if I cunting want to, and not be penalised it, whilst swearword free but racist and sexist etc posts are dealt with. Quite the opposite elsewhere.
ScrumpyCrack · 23/07/2018 13:46

You really can’t stretch your imagination to answer such a question for yourself? (Or read the thousands of others threads that asked the same question).
