Not that I’m against it - I’m just curious really!

@44plumplane

Same reason for me, I used to read AIBUs all the time pre kid!

Because at its heart it's a general chat forum, which initially was about "mums" but has grown hugely beyond the initial scope, but retains the parenting side as its usp

TrudeauGirl · 22/07/2018 22:07

I'm not a mother and I'm not planning to be. But there's so many topics and boards on here that I come here for advice and a chat. I love it Smile

TrudeauGirl · 22/07/2018 22:07

And I love the AIBU board

Somersetlady · 22/07/2018 22:07

I wasnt a Mum when i joined. I was pregnant and looking for information. I lost that baby moved i to to ttc multiple misccariages the. Eventually had Ds1.

I was childless and on Mumsnet for a few years!

9amTrain · 22/07/2018 22:08

Because it's a massive, diverse forum consisting of every topic you can think of. And it's so busy you'll get a reply to mostly anything within 2 minutes.

I just ignore all the parenting stuff!

dancinginthekitchen · 22/07/2018 22:09

I came after a crisis in my marriage and googling led me to the relationships board. I didn’t post then but the wise words on other threads really helped and so I stayed.
My marriage is healed (and better than ever), my children are all grown up and I have just embarked on the exciting world of grandparenthood but for me it is the huge variety of boards and threads that keeps me here.

Darkstar4855 · 22/07/2018 22:09

Came for AIBU because it’s hilarious to read some of the stuff people post about. Then the conception board when we were ttc and now the pregnancy one.

I think non-parents should be encouraged: I definitely have more appreciation for the challenges of parenting after reading some of the threads on here!

@Yorkiedorkie

Confused I’m sorry - genuinely didn’t mean to cause any offence to anyone!

Can there be a pinned thread- this seems to be asked weekly at least. That you don't have to be a parent, that there are other reasons for joining, and you don't have to be woman. Would save a bit of musing for some folk!!!

Franzipanny11 · 22/07/2018 22:10

Auditqueen - is there a batshit crazy dog owners thread/board? I’d fit right in.

BadPolicy · 22/07/2018 22:10

I came for the Doghouse and stayed for AIBU.

GinIsIn · 22/07/2018 22:11

I joined because my best friend, who was already a mum at the time, sent me a link to the oxo tower thread. Grin

thedevilinablackdress · 22/07/2018 22:12

Because parents are people too and I don't mind talking to them sometimes.

Jeezo. You've also just said you were on it before you had kids!!!

dancingqueen345 · 22/07/2018 22:12

Not a parent but have learnt so much 'grown up' stuff since being here, I absolutely love it. Do occasionally find myself giving out very sound parent

dancingqueen345 · 22/07/2018 22:12

*parenting advice that I've read on here and get some funny looks 😂😂

wellBeehivedWoman · 22/07/2018 22:13

Cake for the TTC boards, stayed for AIBU

wellBeehivedWoman · 22/07/2018 22:13

*Came for

Hippopotas · 22/07/2018 22:13

Because I’m thinking of starting a family in the next few years

specialsubject · 22/07/2018 22:14

because people are REALLY thick on yahoo answers and pistonheads has a smaller range of topics. least worst option, although as this site is designed for women it has a lot of technical flaws.

ElementalHalfLife · 22/07/2018 22:14

I'm one of the one who stumbled in here following links about some topic I was interested in, I got sucked in clicking on threads and tbh didn't even realise what the site was called or that it was purportedly a parenting forum until I came to note the name so I could find my way back.

I love the fact that not everyone here is a parent or is talking purely about things related to parenting, I'd be long gone if that were the case it'd be as boring as fuck. Also like a pp I'm an ex-pat and here's where I get my all things UK fix - don't get me wrong I love my life here but there are some things Americans just don't get.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 22/07/2018 22:16

So you can answer your own question. Your here going why are non mums on mumsnet yet you yourself were on mumsnet before you were a mum. So why were you on mumsnet before you were a parent.

These threads keep recuring why are non parents and men on mumsnet - cos we want to be.

Angie169 · 22/07/2018 22:16

I am not a parent , I 1st came on to here because I needed to be able to let off my feeling anonymously .
My DH had died and although my family were great I wanted to be able to rant and talk to others that had gone through the same thing .
It helped me a huge amount and still is doing , when I feel down I just reread some of the very funny threads ( people having sex in my bush def one of the best ) .

I do not post on child related topics unless I am very sure I can help as I am not it the position / had the experience to give advice .

tinyradish · 22/07/2018 22:20

What everyone else has said. Also there is a whole section for conception, infertility etc where many women WANT to be a mum but may not be yet.

IwantedtobeEmmaPeel · 22/07/2018 22:21

By the time I found Mumsnet my kids had long flown the nest. Came here via the penis beaker thread to see what all the fuss was about, laughed so much that I stayed.
