Dirty messy room disaster

Helpmehelpmyself1 · 20/07/2018 21:58

AIBU yo ask for some support tonight? I know I can’t sleep and I need to do this so i don’t mind doing it over night. Bare in mind, no children so ni one is living in these conditions but me.

My room is dirty and messy. The most it possibly could be. I struggle with depression and I don’t know how I’ve let it get this monumentally bad. I’m talking dirty dishes, rotting food, every thing I own and clothes covering the floor.

Please give me some support I know this is my fault but I need some encouragement to tackle this as it’s just not healthy to live in

I'm cleaning my flat tomorrow! It's not bad but it's not had a decent clean in months and reading this thread is getting me excited to see a clean place!

When you've got clean floor space go down to asda or somewhere you can get shake and vac. Use it on the carpet. It'll make the room smell good too.

I've also always found that once I've got a load of washing on and a sink full of dishes to clean, I feel better.

gingerpickles · 21/07/2018 00:03

I was the same and have had awful bedrooms. What motivated me was these places that buy bin bags of clothes, i think they were offering £4 per 10kg, this set me off that i must be able to get a few pounds out of this. I ended up with 7 bin bags of clothes, accessories and shoes going (unfortunately the place was shut and the bags went to a charity shop, but it gave me the motivation)
Getting rid of so much has helped me keep on top of everything.

Maybe if it helps you could see if theres somewhere like that near you, especially if you have a lot of clothes.

I think you've got a few of us inspired to break out the bin bags tomorrow, OP!

Hope you are feeling better for making a start on it (don't feel you have to finish it all in one go) and I'll check in tomorrow morning Brew or Wine whatever works for you!

Ohyesiam · 21/07/2018 00:12

Op, how’s it gone today? X

DaisyDreaming · 21/07/2018 00:31

I found the website 365 things less a help. It was about decluttering one item a day, I actual would end up decluttering more but just the mindset of ‘ok I just need to find one item to declutter’ helped. As others say start with the rubbish, that’s the easiest bit once you have sorted. Feel proud of how much you gather. If you have a car take anything you’ve decluttered to the dump or to charity shops straight away so the bags aren’t sitting there for ages adding to the effect. If you don’t already also open the windows and curtains, let some fresh air in. I often put on song on to play and just sort/get rid of stuff for the duration of that song

One corner is completely clear, I’ve managed to clear and clean the top of my dressing table. Few more hours to go but it’s getting there

Well done, that's fantastic! You're going to feel amazing when it's done SmileFlowers

whyme2018 · 21/07/2018 00:56

Sit down with a cuppa, read these messages, give yourself a time to get up again and do a bit more if you’re going to continue.

You’re doing so well.

Helpmehelpmyself1 · 21/07/2018 01:07

Each corner of the room is starting to become clearer. Bagging the clothes has made the most difference.

Bedding is in the washing machine currently so I can get into a clean bed once I’m finally done.

Tidying is the hardest part, I actually can’t wait until I can start cleaning with products.

This is a very inspiring thread. I also have a messy dirty house at the moment, and I was vaguely planning tackling it over the next week. But I am determined to get it done now! Great work so far Helpme and thank you for the updates!

fieryginger · 21/07/2018 02:00

Be ruthless. Chuck out everything you don't need and you'll soon make headway.

Good luck!

Helpmehelpmyself1 · 21/07/2018 02:17

So my, what was empty, wheelie bin is now full. But feel like I’m hitting a wall. I’m probably only another hour and a half away from having it cleared and sorted (without cleaning spray and such).

I’m getting tired but I know I don’t have long to go and also my bed isn’t down at the minute as I put it up to clean underneath.

If I really stick at it for a few more hours with no more distractions, I can get it done. It’s going to be a struggle though.

ShouldofWouldofCouldof · 21/07/2018 02:24

Well done op. When its dome take a photo and if you find yourself slipping back to messy look at the picture ro inspire you to keep it clean. I had a bad room it depressed.me i shut the door and didnt step inside for nearly 6 months, when i finally decided to tackle it i took a before and after photo. I do slip in to old habits ALOT but when I look at the pictures it inspires me to do it.

Redcherries · 21/07/2018 06:27

How did you get on op, I hope you’ve had some sleep too.

I’m about to start a whole house de clutter where some areas have caught up on me during a difficult time, you’re an inspiration to get started.

speakout · 21/07/2018 06:35

OP if you can afford it go buy yourself a couple of nice cheap cleaning products.
Poundshops are great, my local savers were selling zoflora for 59p yesterday, something with a fragrance you like can make the job of cleaning a bit more pleasant.
