It's a tricky one. Trying to buy our first home after renting. I'm scared and want to make sure we make the right choice. Haven't viewed the houses yet but can't help looking at the listings.
I want your honest opinion and why you like/dislike them.
About us: couple in their late 20s/early 30s. No kids yet but potential start thinking of having kids in the next couple of years. Location wise both houses are perfect. Please MNers I need all the help this is already so bloody stressful :(

OP posts:

No 2,seems much lighter. Both have good rooms but I feel 2 is better.Yiu need to view though as it is how you feel that will matter.

speakout · 19/07/2018 11:10

I would get this thread closed OP.

By posting these houses you are effectively marketing them to others and increasing buyer competition.

sunshinesupermum · 19/07/2018 11:10

blackfootdaisy house 2 is semi detached

FlyingElbows · 19/07/2018 11:10

There are elements of both but I'm for no. 1., the rooms in 2 are too small. But it doesn't matter what I think because the house needs to speak to you, op. If it doesn't speak to you don't buy it.

sugarbum · 19/07/2018 11:10

Go and view them. there is no point just looking at the photos and driving yourself mad. You will know when you see them if they feel right. I also prefer the second, but you can't tell till you view in real life.

I don't really understand this issue upstart crow. If someone wants to buy a 3 bed house in St Ives, they'll be looking on rightmove anyway?

Mrsharrison · 19/07/2018 11:10

House 1. Great garden and layout of rooms. Nice fitted kitchen.

House 2 is nice but bland with rubbish kitchen and strange layout.

trojanpony · 19/07/2018 11:11

Assuming location isn’t a factor

House 2 is “nicer” from the outside and detached (if it’s actually detached is always preferable

happinessiseggshaped · 19/07/2018 11:11

Good point about detached vs semi. Maybe I do just want the kitchen...

yetea · 19/07/2018 11:12

Got them mixed up the wrong way round. The second house (prettier house) could switch where they have dining to sitting so my point was pointless. Garden space is different though. If you’re planning on children and staying in a property for awhile you have to factor in trampoline space, or whining between ~6-10 y non stop Grin.

Tinty · 19/07/2018 11:12

House 2, it is detached, it looks a little smaller than house one, but it is nice. House 1 looks like it may be on a more main road, could be noisy if it is a rat run in the evenings. Nice big house.

I would choose the detached over the semi if the areas are similar. At least if your neighbours are awful they aren't attached to you.

cardibach · 19/07/2018 11:13

They are both the same style of property in many ways. Go by size, location and which feels best. You might not like either when you get there - be prepared for that.

AnnabelleLecter · 19/07/2018 11:13

Much prefer house No1.

Shoxfordian · 19/07/2018 11:13

I like house 1 better, looks more modern and the garden looks bigger. I like the patio as well. House 2 seems a bit shabbier.

Padparadscha · 19/07/2018 11:13

Definitely 2, number 1 lacks personality. I mean you could/would put your own mark on it, but would it ever be ‘cosy’?

Nikephorus · 19/07/2018 11:14

House 1 - bigger generally, bigger bathrooms & separate shower & bath, plus it's cheaper. Win, win.
But go see both.

CecilyNeville · 19/07/2018 11:14

There's a lot internally I don't like about house 1, but I prefer that it has more outside space, and doesn't feel as overlooked as house 2. Also, with 2, the proportions are a bit off, the living space in house 2 looks awkward, and they don't seem to have a huge amount of stuff - bookshelves, bits of furniture.

Also, I'd always prefer a kitchen-diner and a lounge, to a kitchen, with lounge-diner.

So I'd go with 1.

Snowysky20009 · 19/07/2018 11:14

Actually house 2 the 'family room' is that area with a chair! I'm changing my mind! I thought there was an additional 'family room/lounge' type thing.

yetea · 19/07/2018 11:15

They’re both semi detached from what I can see

JustLikeBefore · 19/07/2018 11:15

definitely house 1, So much more room.

house 2 looks tiny and made of cardboard.

mogloveseggs · 19/07/2018 11:16

Go view. Number 2 looks like a new build-we’re in a new build and you can hear next door sneeze! On that i would say number 1.

patstar · 19/07/2018 11:17

House 1, although house 2 is detached feels very small.
House 1 has a nice sized kitchen diner

BadLad · 19/07/2018 11:17

They’re both semi detached from what I can see

That's what I thought at first glance, but 2 says detached and looking more closely, it isn't.

BadLad · 19/07/2018 11:17

It isn't a semi.

woolythoughts · 19/07/2018 11:18

house 1

Prefer the kitchen and the low maintenance garden

blackfootdaisy · 19/07/2018 11:18

Ah thank you sunshine
There is still potential to extend over the garage though
