It's a tricky one. Trying to buy our first home after renting. I'm scared and want to make sure we make the right choice. Haven't viewed the houses yet but can't help looking at the listings.
I want your honest opinion and why you like/dislike them.
About us: couple in their late 20s/early 30s. No kids yet but potential start thinking of having kids in the next couple of years. Location wise both houses are perfect. Please MNers I need all the help this is already so bloody stressful :(

I'd go with house 1.

Pros:
larger bedrooms with enough space for adding built-in wardrobes
smaller bedrooms are pretty much the same size, not a big one and box room
larger and better laid out bathrooms
proper kitchen with space for a family table and highchair
spacious downstairs area
larger and more private back garden
front garden
potential to extend to the side on two levels

Cons:
is semi (but that detached one is feet away from others so not a big con)
looks a bit meh from outside

So you don't like the kitchen. Not a problem, kitchen can be easily changed, much easier than adding space to tiny rooms.
Walls can be easily painted any colour you like.

I don't understand people who shout NOOOO to a house because they can't see past current owner's decor.

OP a few of us have made other suggestions using Rightmove. It would be interesting to have your views of these.

PeachFam · 20/07/2018 09:58

@BlueAnchor yes I seen them. I haven't had a chance to have a proper look at them but I have a look on my lunch break or this evening. Thanks Blue 😊

Option one says no longer on the market though

iogo · 20/07/2018 10:12

As the last poster said, option 1 says no longer on the market and option 3 says sold subject to contract.

BadLad · 20/07/2018 10:31

BlueAnchor

Are you named after the pub?

PeachFam · 20/07/2018 10:38

Right if someone bought these houses cause they seen them on this thread I want commission! Just kidding 😂 Wonder if house number 2 gets marked as sold in the next couple of days 😳🙄😱

House 2. Would always go for detached if you can afford it, especially when children come along with the noise they make.

SequinsOnEverything · 20/07/2018 11:39

1, but it's close. 1 has a nicer garden. 2 has nicer decor, but you could change that. I would need to change the kitchen cupboard doors in 1 though! I would always always go for a kitchen diner not a lounge diner.

penguinsnpandas · 20/07/2018 11:43

I think when we sell our house I will try AIBU Grin

penguinsnpandas · 20/07/2018 11:44

You're aren't really an estate agent are you Peach?

beautifulblue · 20/07/2018 11:50

2

PeachFam · 20/07/2018 20:45

Haha, no @penguinsnpandas but I think I'd make a good one 😂😂

Anyway as you lovely lot can see house number 1 has been sold.

I have had a look at the derwent close one that @Bluelady suggested and I think it's done up very cheaply. I like the flooring in the 2nd house. Spoke to the EA and apparently it was all done about a year ago (engineered wood and carpet) I think we would end up spending a lot of money on that one just to make it feel homely.

Elizabeth court one- interesting. We must view it! I don't know why we didn't consider that one.

Freyanna · 20/07/2018 22:35

I like house 2, I would always get a detached house in preference after having terrible neighbours in the past (Think electric guitars, drums, up all night, nasty people).

RainSim · 20/07/2018 22:41

One.

Failydail5 · 20/07/2018 22:43

I prefer the first. More modern, needs less doing to it.

Singlenotsingle · 20/07/2018 22:45

I like No.1 but it says no longer on the market.

ivykaty44 · 20/07/2018 22:49

1 has better arranged room down stairs and more bathrooms

Don’t like 2

KickAssAngel · 20/07/2018 23:05

I used to live v close to St Ives. Tbh, none of those houses will be bad. Just find one that feels right and go for it. If you miss out on a house there will be more on the market. Personally, I'd like to be able to walk into town, and get to the GP/shops easily. We had a great GP close to the co-op at the north point of that housing, so anywhere in that triangle north of St Audrey's Lane would fit your description. ALL the schools around there are great, and there's great sports facilities as well.

I live in the US now, but would happily return to St Ives if we ever move home.

BlackberryandNettle · 20/07/2018 23:15

I'd have chosen 1 by a mile although says no longer on market now. Bigger outside and in, possibly extension potential at side for bigger kitchen? Or go up at the back? You'd have the garden space. Decor could be changed if you wanted pretty cheaply, so go on space.

BlackberryandNettle · 20/07/2018 23:16

Looking back, people can are saying 2 was detached but both looked to be semis?

BlackberryandNettle · 20/07/2018 23:18

Whoops it is detached, just close to next door

9amTrain · 20/07/2018 23:32

Option 2! The first one is lifeless.

Bluelady · 21/07/2018 12:52

I'll be really interested to see what you think of Elizabeth Court. If I was looking in your price range I'd be all over it just for the views and the un-over looked garden.

Hogtini · 21/07/2018 14:39

Blackberry the op said she has been to see the house herself and it's detached.
