Perhaps this story will illustrate why feminists are so up in arms about self ID.

I would love to see even the staunchest anti-women transactivist tell me that this person is a woman and that they belong in a women’s prison.

The Times reports that up to half of transwomen in prison in the UK are sex offenders. This compares to 17% in the general prison population.

The percentage of male sex offenders in prison has risen from 10% at the turn of the century. I hope this is because prosecutions are being given greater priority and hence the conviction rate has risen, though I'm not confident that this is the case.

I always wondered how the victims of Craig Hauxwell felt when he was being widely reported as a woman in the media. He was on the run after being convicted of a string of rapes but he was referred to as 'she' and Lisa. There is every chance his victims had additional trauma based entirely on the fact that he was a man- risk of pregnancy, increased risk of STD transmission. They couldn't identify out of those risks because Craig put on some lipstick.

I had a friend/mathematician to break it down and males who identify as women are 5 times more likely to commit a violent, sexual crime than a woman. According to prison statistics.

This is one of the rare times that I held a progressive view, and have now gone back on it. Months ago I would have argued with people on here and elsewhere that a transwoman is a woman. I never held a strong opinion one way or another, but always gave idea of trans women positive thoughts and support - for some reason I can't find the right words, but, anyway. I have learned a lot on here about the issue and have read arguments that I never would have thought of. I have had a change of mind and heart. The OP is right, and it seems many are now having second thoughts about self-ID. At the very least, he raped the baby when he had a penis. So imo if he did the crime as a male, he should serve the sentence as the gender that he was at the time the crime was committed, and that would mean being placed in a male prison.

I believe that some people were born the wrong sex and spend a large part of their lives suffering because of it. I believe that with medical assistance they are able to change sex and it doesn't do any harm in referring to them by their chosen identity.

If criminals can change sex, then a persons history should not be erased with a ban on 'deadnaming'.

Why would someone who had spent their life suffering because they truly believed they were a woman trapped in a man's body, then go and rape a baby with the most male part of their body?

And it does do harm. If we start referring to men who commit crimes as women, then the statistics will be skewed, suddenly men aren't committing as many crimes, women are committing more crimes and suddenly it becomes a whole lot harder to call out male violence for what it is. Or do you not think the ability to highlight male violence is important?
