I simply cannot get my head around how there can be any arguments that having a sex change actually makes you a woman. Surely its entirely down to your dna. If your chromosomes are xx you are a woman, if you are xy you are a man. Nothing changes your chromosomes. If a man wants to look like a woman and be reffered to as a woman then fine to an extent I will respect her wishes but they will never be a true woman. Same as if I had horns implanted in my head and told everyone to call me a goat, my dna still makes me a human, I will never be an actual goat.

I think ultimately I don’t believe being transgender is easy and undergoing operations isn’t going to be a decision taken lightly so I am simply wondering how many people would actually do it ‘maliciously’. as long as we have processes in place so e.g. a man can’t just self ID to end up in a women’s prison, which isn’t the case here is it? The articles refers to them having had full reassignment surgery following referral by a qualified health professional.

However, they are so rare that the female estate in the UK at any rate is not equipped to cope with them - so they tend to be held in special wings in men's maximum security prisons. What's at issue here is whether it is right to put violent male sex offenders into women's prisons where the vast majority of the prisoners have not committed violent offences (mostly in for drugs offences, handling stolen goods, and most worryingly, non-payment of fines for e.g. not paying TV licences). These women have a statistically far greater likelihood of having been the victims of child sexual abuse or domestic violence than the population at large. They may have done things society deems deserving of imprisonment, but they are also for the most part very vulnerable individuals. The question is whether it is morally right that they should have to serve their prison time in the company of violent, sexually abusive men.

I’d like to know Boo’s answer to this. Which side are you on, that of the person who knows that they were raped by a man, or of the rapist who says they are a woman? Should the victim have to refer to their rapist as “she” when the case goes to court?

My husband is an officer in a prison for sex offenders/vulnerable people. There's at least 100 in there for raping or abusing young children, and that's in one male prison out of 8 specifically for male sex offenders. Many other male prisons have wings housing hundreds of "vulnerable prisoners" too. Of course fewer women commit these crimes. We are biologically different from men and to suggest otherwise is bullshit.
