Skarros: I've said a ton of times on here that there should be certain exceptions such as prisons and refuges, but there should be facilities where transwomen should be catered for. My point is that people will use this to stop the gender recognition act (which I support) as a whole.
Then you and I are broadly in agreement. For me this argument has always been about women's prisons, sports, rape crisis centres and domestic violence refuges. At the moment, the GRA allows us to entertain the polite fiction that legally in most circumstances transwomen with GRCs are to be treated as women, barring a few sex-based exceptions. And this is, as far as I'm concerned, fine.
What worries me is people like Boo trying to drive the legislative agenda to remove all gate-keeping so that any Tom, Dick or Harry can demand to be treated as a woman, regardless of GRC (which involves checks to make sure the person is genuine), and to remove all sex-based exemptions (see Boo's championing of convicted rapists of the penis-inserting variety in women's prisons).
That's why we need these threads. Not to demonise perfectly nice decent trans individuals (who are the majority of the trans population), but to make sure that in making reasonable accommodations for them, to make sure they don't lose jobs/housing/etc when they come out as trans, we also end up in the absurd situation where we place male-bodied rapists in prisons full of vulnerable women prisoners, or have male-bodied teenagers winning female races that carry the prize of athletics scholarships at college.
