Call me crazy, but that very stat tells you that women are not as capable.

The only way to help potential victims of violence is to address the causes if violence. "Not talking about the victim" is a red herring. The little child in this case will hopefully be being cared for, what's to talk about? Should the baby have been less provocative? Was his skirt too short? Was he drunk? Or maybe it's his mother's fault? That would work for the rhetoric wouldn't it?

Violence is most often male. The reasons for this are much more complex than "men are bad" and need to be discussed without howls of "Not all men" from the gallery. It matters that this person was born male and has decided to try to be female and the consequences of society accepting that need to be observed and discussed, again "Not all transpeople" yes, understood. It doesn't change the discussion much. It matters because it is part of the picture of understanding the crime, the violence, and working out a strategy as a society to help prevent future violence.
