Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 15:55

I am very worried about DS. I have been depressed lately and even attempted suicide at one point. DS, the light of my life, is a bit of a loner has been bullied at school but has now formed a friendship with a man - a grown man with plenty of money and no apparent job! AIBU to be worried?

MissLingoss · 19/07/2018 15:58

question, Gasp0de and Lancelottie had it right, it's A Tale of Two Cities.

Lancelottie · 19/07/2018 15:58

About a Boy, Gran?

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 16:00

Yes.

drudgewithagrudge · 19/07/2018 16:08

I didn't meet my MIL until we had been married for about 10 years. She deserted DH and FIL when DH was little and his father brought him up alone. DH has always been very sensitive about this and didnt like talking about it. I often wonder if he self medicated with alcohol and food to cope with his feelings of rejection.

Fast forward and MIL turns up with some cock and bull story about having to go on the run because she was wanted for a crime she didn't commit.
DH was over the moon to have his mother back but FIL wasn't so pleased. I am afraid that she will go off again and break DH's heart. She gets on well with my three DC and she has a lovely voice but I don't trust her.

Is MrStarks The Glass Lake?

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 16:13

I live a rather precarious existence with DH and DD, we make do with using things people have lost, sometimes we just borrow them. Now the owners of the house we live in want us out, I just don't know what to do.

TokenBritPoshOfCourse · 19/07/2018 16:15

The Borrowers!

Love those books.

ScrambledSmegs · 19/07/2018 16:15

Token, I thought yours had been solved? I think it’s Dracula from the point of view of Lucy Westenra.

iismum · 19/07/2018 16:17

questions - a couple of pages too late here, but the river in Edinburgh is the Water of Leith. Edinburgh is on the Firth of Forth, but about ten miles from anywhere that the Forth could be described as a river. They also spend time in Cramond in the book, which is on the River Almond. [Totally tangent - sorry, I'm a pedant!]

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 16:18

DH was injured during the War and is now unable to DTD which I find frustrating. He does have a very good looking employee though WIBU to have an affair with him?

iismum · 19/07/2018 16:20

glorious - Lady Chatterly's Lover!

glamorousgrandmother · 19/07/2018 16:25

Yes. And I really have to go to Pilates now so I'm reluctantly switching off. I'll catch up again later - really enjoying this thread.

GaspOde - Sons and Lovers?

Glamorous - Lady Chatterley's Lover?

Tanith · 19/07/2018 16:28

I’ve fallen hopelessly in love. She’s the most beautiful girl ever, the girl of my dreams. I intend to marry her and make her mine, although one of my friends thinks I’m utterly mad marrying a music hall girl. Pshaw! What does he know about true love?

There are just two problems, well one problem. Or two.

I may have exaggerated a teeny bit about my fortune (there is one, but it’s not exactly mine).
No, the family fortune belongs to my nephew, a spoilt little brat. I’m guardian to him - and his ninny of a sister - after their parents died, so I can always steal the silver and pretend that I’m a good deal richer than I really am.

I don’t think it’ll be much of a problem. I just hope her evil old crone of a mother never finds out! I don’t say she’d actually harm the kiddies, but she wouldn’t be pleased, put it that way!

ToffeePennie · 19/07/2018 16:31

Given that you still haven’t guessed my muse who ends up proposed to in the garden - it’s Noel cowards hay fever. I love it!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2018 16:33

Millie, no, not Sons and Lovers.

iismum · 19/07/2018 16:36

I grew up in a huge country house - the only child of my elderly parents. Had every luxury but they're a bit dull and mummy's so pushy! I think they wanted me to marry the Prince of Wales or something! I was so bored that I ran off with an old family friend. He's an old letcher and only into my family because we're v posh and he's a crashing snob, but it's better than staying at home. Except actually it's awful! We've just had a baby but it died and honestly, it feels like it's for the best. Mummy says babies are so expensive (although she's madly wealthy, so I don't know why that matters). DH seems to have a crush on my long-lost cousin, who turned up to inherent the estate. I think I might push off with a random nearby duke.

ScreamingValenta · 19/07/2018 16:37

Gaspode Just trying to catch up on the thread after work and spot the unsolved ones. Has Macbeth been mentioned, and possibly (though years since I read it) The Very Hungry Caterpillar?
