Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

I'd had a difficult few years, travelling around, then finally decided to set up a small business in a village. I tried to be friendly but the local clergyman took a disliking to me and badmouthed me to the whole village which is affecting my business. I just want to help people, really.

Keep the Aspidistra flying, George orwell.

ScreamingValenta · 18/07/2018 19:25

That's the one, glamorous Grin

HopefullyAnonymous · 18/07/2018 19:26

Chocolat?

Tanith · 18/07/2018 19:27

👍 ScreamingValenta I could never get on with Day of the Triffids - just couldn't be scared by walking pot plants Grin

But the Chrysalids was a whole different kettle of fish!

glamorousgrandmother · 18/07/2018 19:28

Hopefully YES

ScreamingValenta · 18/07/2018 19:29

Tanith I thought the concept of (almost) everyone being blinded overnight was far, far scarier than the wandering plants!

glamorousgrandmother · 18/07/2018 19:30

I went on holiday to the Scottish Highlands with my new husband. One day I went to a walk on my own and found some standing stones, I came over all peculiar and can honestly say my life hasn't been the same since.

glamorousgrandmother · 18/07/2018 19:32

Yes! (That was quick!)
Miss Lingoss, I love those books and am still waiting for the final instalment. I wish he'd stop doing those 'graphic novels' and get on with it.

afrikat · 18/07/2018 19:32

Outlander 😁

Dottierichardson · 18/07/2018 19:32

Glamorous Is it 'Outlander'?

glamorousgrandmother · 18/07/2018 19:33

Yes, it's Outlander.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 18/07/2018 19:35

Was kicking myself, MissLingoss.

MissLingoss · 18/07/2018 19:35

glamourous, Diana Gabaldon

And I agree, I'm not interested in the graphic novels, I want to see the Lesley storyline resolved.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 18/07/2018 19:41

@Dottierichardson about a million posts ago, yes! Auntie Mame! Sorry... got distracted!

BevBrook · 18/07/2018 19:46

Gasp0de, yes, it was Apple Bough - sorry, I had to go on a Cub picnic so couldn’t reply until now!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/07/2018 19:53

Thanks, Bev! I loved that but your summary is spot on - how could the parents have been so stupid?

Hopefully, Charlotte's Web?

DancingDot · 18/07/2018 19:57

So... I've always had a thing for one of our neighbours and I know he likes me too, but my mother is toxic. She is controlling and cruel and has just told my neighbour that she will never let him marry me, but if he wants he can marry my sister instead. WTAF! Apparently I'm only good for cooking and cleaning and looking after DM in her dotage. But here's what I don't understand - he has agreed to marry my sister..something about "at least I'll still be close to you". Should I just tell them all to fuck off or should I stay and love him from a distance. I'll answer any replies in a bit...I've got something on the cooker I just need to check.

Dottierichardson · 18/07/2018 19:57

How can I be annoyed by a fellow Gilmore fan! Also loved 'Auntie Mame' so funny.

Seasawride · 18/07/2018 19:59

So I started s new job up north. The clients are varied and it’s often cold and wet especially when I have to sort their problems out at night.

I share the house with 2 warring brothers who are chalk and cheese. I fancy the woman who has come in to sort out the accounts though.

Dottierichardson · 18/07/2018 20:02

Seesaw is it 'All Creatures Great and Small' by James Herriot?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/07/2018 20:04

Not sure I've done the right thing. I got a letter offering me a job as a secretary, just temping for a week or two during a party in a holiday house, but good money and I can't be too fussy because of something that happened in an old job. Won't go into that, too outing, but it's cast a long shadow.

Anyway, I followed instructions and ended up getting into a little boat with a motley crew of guests. Here we all are on an island but no sign of my employer, who is supposed to be the host! The guests all have different stories about how they know Mrs Owen. Some of them even say they were expecting a Mr Owen!

I wish I'd said no. Don't have a good feeling about this at all. Although there is one plus point - rather a goodlooking man among the guests. Hoping to catch sight of him at some point wearing just a crisp white towel ...

ScreamingValenta · 18/07/2018 20:08

And then there were none!

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 20:08

Ha which name would you like Gaspode? Ten little or then there were none?

HopefullyAnonymous · 18/07/2018 20:08

And then there were none?
