Help! I have one dd. My mil has lived with us since we have been married.

She is a very strong woman and overruled me on everything. She sends me to bed if I sneeze.

When dd was 2 dh pissed off capturing butterflies in Africa and I havnt heard off him for years. Bastard. So mil got friendly with a wierd lady next door. She has big hair coils round her ears, writes books and has lots of kids.

I am concerned she is also involved in modern slavery as she has a woman living with her called Anna who does everything.

Anyway mil and this wierd Jo woman have colluded to send dd to a boarding school.

Aibu to just want to move away with dd. Start again and have some fun? Grin

Guess the book and keep going. Grin

MissLingoss · 18/07/2018 18:13

Seasawride Northanger Abbey?

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 18:16

My widowed mother has moved me and all my siblings to a Greek island! One of my brothers is obsessed with guns and the other just writes all the time. My sister doesn’t like all my pets. I love my pets and all the wildlife.

glamorousgrandmother · 18/07/2018 18:18

My family and other animals.

At last, one I can do and nobody has got there first!

I had an abusive childhood after my parents died and I had to live with my aunt. I thought things would get better when I went to boarding school. But it was worse. But as I grew up I decided I wanted to be a teacher and this really gave my life meaning. I needed a change and got a job as a tutor for a rich man's dd. We didn't see much of him, but the more I saw, the more I liked. But he has a crazy ex. Some nights I hear her screaming. He says she's a sex addict and it's made her crazy. I don't know what to do? Is he abusive and is talking dirty about his ex. I don't think he should keep a woman, who is mentally ill locked up in the attic. What should I do? Should I carry on seeing him? I feel like he's the one, but I don't know what to do about his ex?

AIBU to be pissed off that DH has been lying to me for years? Bit of a weird story ... I was sort of left to this guy in a will - he could only inherent his father's vast fortune if he married me. I'd never met the son and only met the father once when I was tiny - I mean, wft?! I was a bit pissed off about this but on the other hand it was a huge fortune and I hate being poor, so I was basically up for it. But then the son died before we even met!

Luckily, the huge fortune was inherited by this really nice old couple who sort of adopted me, so I got to enjoy the money anyway. They had this secretary who was pretty creepy - he was always watching me and was a total hermit (I love socialising) - also he was pretty poor. Despite all of that I inexplicably fell in love with him and ran off with him to get married when he fell out with the nice old couple. We've been pretty happy since (even though we're poor and never get to see anyone - even the nice old couple, because he fell out with them), and we now have a fabulous DD.

But DH has just told me that he's the man I was left to in the will, and he's been pretending to be someone else all this time (and also pretending to be dead - confusing!) so that he could find out what I'm really like! I mean, I guess this is good news - we're really rich now (yay!) and can be friends with the lovely old couple and have a social life since he doesn't have to hide from everyone anymore. But AIBU to feel like my whole marriage is built on a lie?!

Mallory - Jane eyre! Love that you did it from jane’s perspective and I did it from rochester’s Earlier in the thread.

ScrambledSmegs · 18/07/2018 18:20

My neighbours have taken in a lodger. He’s short, hairy, wears a winter coat all year round and claims to come from a South American country that doesn’t exist. He also seems... sticky.

I’m considering reporting them to the proper authorities because I don’t think he has a valid visa. They found him on a station platform, FGS!

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 18:21

Iismum I have no idea what that one is but I want to know.

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 18:21

Paddington. Also cue for me to think about stopping procrastinating and doing bathtime instead

Seasawride · 18/07/2018 18:24

Grin yes Northanger

iismum · 18/07/2018 18:25

Drowsy - I'm not sure I can give any clues. It should be pretty obvious if you've read the book and impossible to get if you haven't! It's a Dickens.

Seasawride · 18/07/2018 18:26

Scrambled

Yes Grin you are right

iismum · 18/07/2018 18:28

Scrambled - isn't Paddington from Peru? Pretty sure that exists!

MalloryLaurel · 18/07/2018 18:30

Drowsy, I'll have to find it! I've always felt Jane Eyre is my heroine!

MissLingoss · 18/07/2018 18:30

When my son left the army, he set up as a private investigator, which means he spends his time running around our city hanging out with lowlifes and getting into trouble. And as for his girlfriends - rope dancers and such like. Then on a trip abroad he met a girl from a really high class family. She seems like a nice girl, respectful to her elders, but she's way out of his league, and there are complications with her ex.

Here's a bit more of mine, which no-one has got yet:
DS is working for the Emperor, which should mean good money and a chance to move up the social ladder. The Emperor and his elder son are decent types, but the younger son is bad news, and he's got his eye on ds's posh girl.

ScrambledSmegs · 18/07/2018 18:32

Darkest Peru. Referred to in the books as a country in its own right, not as a part of Peru.

God knows why Michael Bond had to be so specific, but ok!

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 18:32

Argh iismum I am now sure I have read it and it’s just on the edge of my brain. I read a tonne of Dickens for uni.

ScrambledSmegs · 18/07/2018 18:33

Ooh! Our Mutual Friend!

Never liked it Grin

MalloryLaurel · 18/07/2018 18:33

Drowsy, I've never heard that someone else has read The Cazalets, I love those books.

DrowsyDragon · 18/07/2018 18:34

Me too! She is such a good writer!

ScrambledSmegs · 18/07/2018 18:35

I love the Cazalet Chronicles, and a good friend is currently reading them and loving them too.

LetticeFortescue · 18/07/2018 18:38

My MIL spends all her time in bed claiming to be ill and I have to deliver her meals. Trouble is im busy and fed up with doing it so Aibu to ask dd to do it? She's too young to drive obviously but there's a short cut she can use through the woods.
