Im a customer.

Girl has come in with hair down to her bum.

Requested it's cut to the collar bone.

Stylist tied it in little pony fails and cut removed the bands and it's up her neck the girl hasn't seen it properly yet and it looks slightly longer in the front. They have taken her over to wash her hair.

Omg omg omg shes going to go mad! She's just returned from basin whilst I'm typing! That is not collorbone length they have fucking bobbed her!!

I have never in my life had my hair put into ponytails and cut! I regularly grow my hair long then have it cut short. What kind of stylist does that?

TemptressofWaikiki · 17/07/2018 14:36

If someone completely disregards what I asked for, I would not pay. Not a penny! There is no way I would just settle for a discount or some products. When I was a teenager, I had saved money to go to the ‘in’ hair salon where we lived. I asked for a specific cut and style and luckily took a page from a magazine. The hairdresser was prancing around me and I started getting worried because it did not look like the cut that I had requested. He was from the school of arrogant coiffeurs and decided that he would do what he felt like that day, as he was an artist. Well, he did not get paid. He tried to intimidate me but luckily my father walked in who came to pick me up and the manager ended up grovelling. The cut looked seriously shite. My father took me to another really good salon and they managed to salvage it. But I would never have a meltdown or felt traumatised. It’s just bloody hair and will re-grow. However, I would not pay in those circumstances.

WomanInBoots · 17/07/2018 14:37

Well done OP. That was a good intervention, helped her find her voice and got her compensated for the mistake. I'm sure the young woman is grateful for your help. I would have been, especially at that age.

I cut and dye my own these days.

LauraMipsum · 17/07/2018 14:44

Could have been worse.

This Siberian hairdresser uses an axe

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 17/07/2018 14:45

Is anyone else getting an ad for hair extensions? 😂

Skyejuly · 17/07/2018 14:47

They took about 3 inches off at my last trim and awful layers :(

FuckKnuckle · 17/07/2018 14:47

Well done, OP - I'm not sure I'd have had the moral fibre to speak up.

When I were a lass I saved up and went to what was supposed to be a posh salon for a shaggy perm. My hair was really far too short, and the stylist should have pointed this out, but she just went ahead; the perm was also too tight. I looked like fucking Crystal Tipps. As above, I put on the fixed grin, paid up, went home, and cried.

No chance of my Mum standing up for me. She just asked me what I expected and that, "I said it was too short."

Er, no. No you didn't. If you had it might have saved me a lot of upset and money.

imavinit · 17/07/2018 14:49

I have had so many hair disasters that I actually felt sick when I first read this post. I might be wrong (I usually am) but isn't it possible to donate long hair to wigmakers for chemo patients who have lost theirs.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 17/07/2018 14:49

This is why I see the same hairdresser every 6 weeks. I've known her for years and she knows what I want.

I'm glad you spoke up though so she got a discount. I wouldnt have wanted to pay for that.

Bluelonerose · 17/07/2018 14:49

Poor girl there's nothing worth than watching the hairdresser fuck your hair up and you have to wait to get home to cry.

AcrossthePond55 · 17/07/2018 14:54

I'm forever grateful that when I told my long time stylist to 'chop it all off' (my hair was bum length) she refused and said it would be too drastic and she'd take it up to mid-shoulder blades 'for now' and for me to live with it like that for a few days and if I wanted it shorter to call her. She was right and I kept it like that for quite a few years. I've gradually gone shorter over the last 20 years and how have a chin length bob. Never had a bad cut from her and she's never steered me wrong on style.

BlameItOnTheNeon · 17/07/2018 14:55

I also cut and dye my own hair, and have done for several years.
The only hair salon within drivable distance has two specialities - prison drama style mullet or Texas Republican wife's mullet.
Both, ahem, fascinating styles, but for me that'll be a no to both!!!

PitterPatterOfBigFeet · 17/07/2018 14:58

I've got used to saying I want it a good few inches longer than I actually do as no amount of "it's curly it'll come up shorter than you think" seems to work!

TheGoldenWolfFleece · 17/07/2018 14:59

@BlameItOnTheNeon

I didn't say the woman shouldn't complain. What I'm saying is that everyone on this thread and the OP getting so dramatic about it is ridiculous. The only person entitled to complain is the person whose hair it is, she said something and got a reasonable outcome. there's no indication that the op needed to stick her beak in... so I'm not quite sure why so many people are congratulating her when she didn't actually need to do anything. I wonder if the op would have been quite so vehement about getting involved if the woman in question was 50 years old for example. It's coming across very patronising.

BB1967 · 17/07/2018 14:59

Fingers crossed he's not cutting your hair next😉

ChristmasArmadillo · 17/07/2018 15:00

I had a horrible cut (from my regular stylist who should’ve known what she was about!) the day before my wedding. I haven’t looked at the photos more than twice because it makes me cry all over again.

halfwitpicker · 17/07/2018 15:09

Stylist has fucked off to go and find some fancy ass products to try and smooth this shit show.

BlameItOnTheNeon · 17/07/2018 15:10

The thing is Wolf, that the overwhelming majority of posters on this thread said they would be grateful if someone spoke up for them, so why is it so unlikely that the young lady in the salon would not appreciate the support?
I'm very capable of fighting my own battles these days, but I still appreciate it when others chip in with support :)

YourVagesty · 17/07/2018 15:23

exact same thing happened to me once. I had bum-length hair, went to the salon and showed them a photo of a cut to the collarbone. Straight forward you would think. They gave me the 'Can I speak to the Manager' haircut.

I was fucking furious. It must be something that they all learn how to do really well so they try to do it on everyone.

YourVagesty · 17/07/2018 15:27

What I got v. what I actually asked for.

Shits about to go down in the salon.

itssquidstella · 17/07/2018 15:29

@bigredbed it may well have been!

Pipeup · 17/07/2018 15:37

Bloody phone died at the salon didn't it I've just got home. The Stylist got majorly bollocked after the woman left he was stomping around the salon huffing and looking in my direction ha

Your Shock

YourVagesty · 17/07/2018 15:47

I should say that neither photo is of me, obviously, both are from Google.

But that was the long and (very) short of it. Don't think the stylist will make that mistake again, I went ballistic.
