Im a customer.

Girl has come in with hair down to her bum.

Requested it's cut to the collar bone.

Stylist tied it in little pony fails and cut removed the bands and it's up her neck the girl hasn't seen it properly yet and it looks slightly longer in the front. They have taken her over to wash her hair.

Omg omg omg shes going to go mad! She's just returned from basin whilst I'm typing! That is not collorbone length they have fucking bobbed her!!

I too have had many hair disasters over the years. So many times I have got home and cried and then got the scissors and tried to sort it out myself.

I have very thick dead straight hair. If you cut the top too short it stands on end (like Rod Stewart). The amount of times I have told hairdressers that but they still cut it too short and then say "oh your hair goes spiky on it's own"!

I had a perm and even as the hairdresser was putting the rollers in and they were springing out she still said it would be fine. It wasn't. It had hardly any curl. She then said she would do it again but tighter! I stupidly agreed. In my defence I was only about 17 and very shy. This time I had tiny (old age pensioner) curls. It looked really awful. I paid and went home and sobbed for hours. Luckily the curls fell out pretty quickly.

Last year I found a fantastic hairdresser. The best I have ever found. She listened to me and advised what style she thought would suit. My hair looked amazing and I got so many compliment. I started going every month.

I have now moved nearly 200 miles away and still go back every 5 weeks to get my hair done

I went to a trendy London hair salon, back in the 80s when I yearned to be trendy..
Came out with a poodle dog perm that left me so traumatised, I was housebound for days. Never ever again Shock

Hope she refuses to payt!

I have many similar stories to the rest of you - the time I said I only wanted a trim as I needed to still be able to tie my hair back for work and came out with a one inch buzz cut, etc. I've never had the gumption to point out any errors, I always smile, say thanks and even tip.

What always rankled though is that I'd always tell my mother afterwards that the cut I got wasn't what I asked for. She never had this problem and said I must be at fault, she even got quite nasty about it. Then, last year I broke my ankle quite badly. I had a cut booked for the day after and couldn't drive so my mother gave me a lift. I was having a fairly drastic restyle and she heard me tell the hairdresser very clearly what I wanted and saw the pictures I showed him. Off went my mum to Lidl while I had my cut and she picked me up afterwards. As we were walking back to the car she pointed out that although my hair looked very nice (it did), it wasn't at all what I asked for. I wasn't at all surprised and reminded her that this is what always happened but that she blamed me. She went very quiet but I think she assumed it must be a one off.

A few months later my ankle hadn't healed well so mother gave me a lift again to my next cut, where again she heard me ask very clearly for what I had wanted the previous time, again they didn't do it. Now, she finally understands.

My Lovely DH colours my hair, with the colour I've chosen. Total success!

clumsyduck · 19/07/2018 13:46

I cut my own hair, I have it all one length , blunt cut .
Gave up with hairdresser after years of trying to grow out layers that they seemed incapable of not cutting back in .

Personally I don't think layers make fine straight hair look thicker at all , no way , if you imagine by the time you get to the ends of your hair like 70% of the rest of your hair will be in the shorter layers I honestly don't see how it could possibly make it look thicker.

Mine looks far thicker in a straight cut , costs me sod all as I say I do myself and for once in my life people actually compliment my hair !!

crispysausagerolls · 19/07/2018 14:53

Not exactly the same but along similar vein - a few months before my wedding I was getting my eyebrows threaded to give them a lovely shape. A few days before wedding I panicked and wanted them done a bit earlier than booked in to avoid any rash. My usual place was full so like an idiot I tried a new place. She basically stole my eyebrows - like the episode of greys anatomy where mama Burke steals Christina’s. Thank god for eyebrow pencil!!!!!!

I don't think layers make fine straight hair look thicker at all

Of course they don't, they make it look wispy instead! At least if cut badly...

Jayfee · 19/07/2018 15:45

Clumsy and other self hair cutters..how on earth do you manage it? How can you cut the back and sides? I feel I would need an extra pair of hands. I really want to try after my last hair salon nightmare.

clumsyduck · 19/07/2018 16:13

jay I put mine into to low ponytails and take about an inch off just to get the ends neat , my original cut was a couple of inches to get rid of the last of the layers . Have a look at some YouTube tutorials before you do anything though ! And if advise just cutting a tiny amount off at first just to check its ok.

The way I do mine is for all one length hair there are other ways of doing it if you want layers etc so deffo look online so you make sure you do the right thing!!

2ManyChoices · 19/07/2018 18:10

@Zaphodsotherhead yes, how did you guess?! 😂

2ManyChoices · 19/07/2018 18:25

Oh my god @crispysausagerolls this happened to me before my wedding too, only she dyed my brows and then threaded them, when the dye washed off with my glycolic cleanser that night I had one, left, brow and one, right, half brow. Gutted isn't the word, and I went back to the shop and told that cute little Indian lady that half brows were not the look I was going for, she refunded me and cried actual tears. I felt like such a bitch.

Jayfee · 19/07/2018 19:06

Thanks Clumsy..have sort of mucked up the fringe today but will have another go tomorrow. Can only get better!

MarthaArthur · 19/07/2018 20:05

I cut my own. Dread hairdressers even though the one I have now is an angel i wouldnt let him go. I just cant afford him so I do my own by sectioning it into 2 ponytails and tying them under my chin like a beard. I then slide the hair tie down to how much i want cut off and cut it from underneath the tie.

MissMisery · 19/07/2018 20:17

He cut bum length hair off in ponytails??!!! = He is selling it to a wig~maker. Bastard 😕

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 19/07/2018 20:30

ShackUp · 19/07/2018 20:30

My fringe was less than an inch long and the rest was what I can only describe as in the style of a Medieval peasant.

I've had so many hair disasters I'm not actually sure that I've had a good hair cut since the 90's
😂

GruesomeTwosomesMama · 20/07/2018 01:41

I feel your pain, anything above my shoulder n my hair bounces up and out...i gained the nickname “helmet heed” at work. Never been my stylists fault, twice in very early pregnancy ive demanded my waist length hair be cut into a pixie cut. Must be hormones, thank god for extentions and an understanding hubby to foot the bill.

Did have a horrific haircut by my mums “hairdresser friend” between primary and high school, asked for highlights and long layers...started high school looking like a ginger Rod Stewart 😫

Aridane · 20/07/2018 17:28

One thing about hair - it'll always grow again.

If only, of only

OMG feeling your pain, this is the story of my teenage years. Why do mothers get like this over their daughters' hair?!

eiledon · 21/07/2018 20:07

Similar happened to me when I was 15. Asked for a my hair to be trimmed and the hairdresser shaved it up the back of my head and left the sides about jawbone length. He knew I wasn’t happy and I cried for ages. Even smashed an ‘unbreakable’ hairbrush by throwing it against my bedroom wall.
