It’s that time of year again - when I want to be a character in a Jolly Cooper novel - and only eat orange and steak for a week so I can squeeze into a too tight dress with a stain I’ve artfully covered with a brooch, after I have drenched myself in scent so I can get off with a dangerous drunk mysterious man who is loaded with cash and will whip me away to San Tropez, where I will only have an old bathing dress with moth in the seat which I keep falling out of. There I will meet a loveable old lech covered in Man Tan and flirt wildly while getting tight after too much gin.

Years ago I met her briefly at a signing and to my surprise after a chat got a lovely (pale blue cashmere) hug. I’ve sent her cards a couple of times and had lovely notes back and a Christmas card of her dog Bluebell.

Year a page out of H&H! Or on the back of a recipe for prawns in an avocado and Pernod sauce!

I always wanted a prequel to “riders” - so the story of disreputable roue Eddie C-B and rupert’s famously beautiful mother!

Just finished Harriet- what a book. Feel sad now it’s over. Think I’m going to read TMWMHJ next. Haven’t read that one for years.

Ive often thought of writing to JC. Would a letter to her publisher be the best way?

Just downloaded Rivals audiobook... so excited!

Listened to about 4 hrs of it yesterday. I'm not keen on the narrator. At one point she's given Rupert an Irish accent and Taggie Rupert's - WTF.

I love the Gerri Halligan ones. Not sure why they switched to Sherri Baines.

It's been so hot that it's killed my appetite and all the salads I've been eating have meant I've dropped 2 stone & am now slender as willow. I've just been to the hairdressers and had my hair cut into a gorgeous elfin cut with blonde tendrils framing my heart shaped face and bringing out the gold flecks in my eyes. As I sauntered slowly back to my car in my new white hotpants showing off my impossibly long and tanned legs and my tight pale pink t-shirt I passed the local rake & heard him mutter Kee-rist, will you look at that. I've going to have a long cool bath in & then drench myself in Fracas. God I'm horny.

In Mount, in one of the races Quickly spooks and they find a bruise on his neck and get a tip off to look at a video of the crowd. Do we ever find out what caused the bruise?
