To think those loose flowery trousers that are so popular make even the slim look like they have an arse of an elephant?

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 16/07/2018 10:42

wouldn't never ??

Justgivemesomepeace · 16/07/2018 10:48

Well I've a few pairs of these and I dont think my arse looks any worse in them than it does in anything else. Better than jeans or leggings and no chub rub that i get if I wear a skirt. I cant see my bum so i dont really care.

MyFriendFlicker · 16/07/2018 10:49

I love them. I have a small waist and big bum so trousers never usually fit me.
I just wish they would come in plain fabric rather than curtain patterns.

LakieLady · 16/07/2018 10:49

I prefer the ones with wide legs, like palazzo pants. I think they're more flattering, and look more comfortable. And I think big bums can look nice, especially on someone with boobs in proportion and a decent waist.

I'd wear them if I was younger, but I'm in my 60s and bit fearful of getting the "mad old lady" look. I stick to wide-legged linen trousers, mid-calf length, in plain colours.

IDismyname · 16/07/2018 10:51

My elderly MIL used to wear flowery trousers, so they are a complete NO for me :)

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 16/07/2018 11:04

YANBU. I have a pair and am slim and very much dislike what they do to my figure, but they are the most comfortably pair of trousers I own and cool in the warm weather and my need for comfort is greater than my vanity. Plus I take solace in seeing so many other women doing the same to their figures Grin

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 16/07/2018 11:04

Comfortable. Gah.

MissClareRemembers · 16/07/2018 11:08

They look lovely! Nice, simple easygoing outfit. My only grumble would be that the ones made of silk look fabric tend to be quite sweat-inducing!

Olikingcharles · 16/07/2018 11:17

Not really something i'd wear to be fair. However i wouldn't judge anyone who did big bum or not. Thanks for making me laugh with all your funny comments especially the one from the owner of the pair of elephant print pants who i must say yes you do win. I have been going through a dreadful time of late and this thread has cheered me up no end laughed out loud for the first time in months. Thanks again and i appluad you all for embracing the comfort and not giving shit....LOl

Olikingcharles · 16/07/2018 11:22

Hushnownobodycares YES you do win. Thanks for making me laugh. I so needed it been having a dreadful time of late. Hugs for making a sad lady smile.

abitoflight · 16/07/2018 11:28

I'd also like them in plain colour
I can't google elephant bum trousers, they're not palazzo pants so what are they called officially?

GameOfMinges · 16/07/2018 11:30

We in the white western world tend to think our way of thinking is the only way of thinking.

Yeah but this has been a pretty mainstream wish for white Western women for ages now! The whole J-Lo thing was nigh on 20 years ago, that's the point at which I became pleased with mine. And it's never gone away! Look at the popularity of squats. In every gym you'll see people squatting with weights, and some of the squatters are doing them because they want a big round backside.

Childrenofthesun · 16/07/2018 11:32

I have seen them look flattering or unflatte information on different people. I wouldn't wear them because they don't suit me. I am of the small, flat-arse variety derided upthread. My bum and legs are slim but I carry any fat around my middle so these trousers just hide the slim part of me. They do look comfy though.

MissVanjie · 16/07/2018 11:36

who caaaaaares

cod used to be a bugger for this back in the day btw. start a thread saying something vaguely bitchy about a popular garment, then sit back and cackle at all the outrage, obviously finding herself wittier than Dorothy Parker. Hmm ah well.

soupforbrains · 16/07/2018 11:36

@Turtlefru yes I have also received the pyjamas questions. I am defiant in continuing to wear mine but one friend in particular refuses to be seen in public with me wearing them because they INSIST they are pyjama bottoms.

I have pointed out to them that Harem pants have been around for a long time and in fashion over a couple of summers and that they are simply out of touch but they refuse to accept my arguments Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 16/07/2018 11:38

They look very cool and comfy, I know quite a few people who have some and while I think they’re not the most flattering item of clothing people can wear, they’re absolutely fine. No one I know looks elephantine of arse in them, but maybe I just know people with marvellous behinds (which is obviously why I will not be wearing them).

However I’m at a total loss about those weird baggy onesies with the low-slung crotch. They look like a trip hazard.

ScrambledSmegs · 16/07/2018 11:39

PS H&M calls them ‘pull-on’ trousers. I would love to know how H&M think we put our other trousers on Hmm

AnyForm · 16/07/2018 13:40

I've never seen these! Are they just like harem pants?

AnyForm · 16/07/2018 13:42

I remember Cod's threads. Is she still doing that? I've seen her around, I think, but under another name.

SharronNeedles · 16/07/2018 13:47

On another thread someone posted about feeling bad realising she had cellulite and could no longer wear her shorts, loads of posted flocked in to tell her that it doesn't matter, especially in this heat as it's more important to be comfortable etc. Now we're judging people for doing this exact same thing??
I don't feel comfortable in jeans in this weather, I hate shorts and skirts so these trousers are great for me. It's either this or jeans and I'm not making myself uncomfortable to keep you happy

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 16/07/2018 13:48

I like them. I've always been small of waist and ample of arse, and frankly in this weather I no longer give the tiniest of fucks how my body looks as long as I'm cool and comfortable. (Although I'd totally go for elephant print over floral.)

I have some great plain jersey harems from the H&M basics range for anyone who's looking.

hammeringinmyhead · 16/07/2018 13:49

Primark sells plain ones for £6. It's all I've worn through being 5 months pregnant in the heatwave. I don't care if my arse looks big - all my other trousers are jeans and skirts mean my legs chafe. What else are we meant to wear when it's hot? I'm in a really casual workplace and shorts still aren't acceptable.

longwayoff · 16/07/2018 13:52

More like a badly upholstered sofa but take your point. Sitting on my chintzy chair I am a chameleon. Better get up now before soneone sits on me.
