It’s taken me 8 hours to build an Ikea dressing table one bedside chest of drawers it’s only a small one and tidy out a my wardrobe/ cupboard. I’ve also unpacked all my make up and products putting all my make up into the draw pots and containers I have. Is this way to long to do it in I can’t believe it’s already 9. I’m fucking hot sweaty and exhausted. Only had a few 5 mins breaks two for a snack one 5 min lay down for my back and a few wee breaks. Partners thinks I’ve taken so long to do so little.

Might have been quicker if he'd helped?

Hidillyho · 15/07/2018 21:10

That’s a long time. Not saying I could do it quicker (or even try to do it) though

Oldaintallthat · 15/07/2018 21:13

My dh is wonderful. Most of the time.
But he seems to take a cruel arrogant arsehole attitude to me doing things like this that he could do much more quickly. Well fuck him. It gets done in the end. So, Ive stopped letting it bother me.
NYANBU. He's a dick.

Pengggwn · 15/07/2018 21:14

It takes how long it takes, doesn't it? Who cares what anyone else thinks?

OneEpisode · 15/07/2018 21:14

I’m pretty quick at the ikea assembly given space to spread out. Years of practice, and I can follow instructions.
But tidying my wardrobe would take me weeks.
And as it’s my day off work today, I’ve been doing everything I did do in slow motion.

Paddington23 · 15/07/2018 21:15

The Ikea stuff did take a while I made a few mistakes to. I’m very dyslexic so reading the instructions and finding all the parts did frazzle me. He didn’t help because he was being sick he’s had a migraine all day and kept throwing up. I’ve left him his bedside cabinet to do see how long it takes him.

Next time you won't take nearly as long. And the time after that will be shorter again. It's how you learn to do things.

You've done well. You should be pleased with yourself.

OneEpisode · 15/07/2018 21:16

Well done you for getting it done on your own! Hope your back is ok.

Hillstreamloach · 15/07/2018 21:17

Why is there a timer on it? Maybe you are a slower worker than some people but so what? If it had taken you a week it wouldn't have mattered to anyone but you. You worked hard so be proud of yourself!

AJPTaylor · 15/07/2018 21:21

hide a critical part of his bedside table.

OneEpisode · 15/07/2018 21:24

AJP Smile.
They gave me the wrong instructions once. You could probably print the wrong ones out quite easily..

Milfromhades · 15/07/2018 21:24

hide a critical part of his bedside table

It's actually the law that you should do this.

NotTakenUsername · 15/07/2018 21:25

Did you miss out on his gold star for furniture building? What a twatty thing for him to say. It takes as long as it takes - I imagine being dyslexic doesn’t help with those bloody instructions!

I’d be tempted to hide some parts for a short period when he goes to build his

testingmitb · 15/07/2018 21:28

Mine always launches himself into tasks like this, and in his haste always fucks it up Grin. Me? I'd rather take my time, lay out the pieces, check the instructions etc... and get it done properly. Slow and steady wins the race OP.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/07/2018 21:29

You started the project and finished it. That's all that matters. Tell him to stick it.

Knittedfairies · 15/07/2018 21:30

So you’ve built a wardrobe and a cupboard, and tidied a wardrobe, then filled up your new furniture? Sounds good to me.

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 15/07/2018 21:31

Well done you! Flowers
I'm not dyslexic, but when assembling furniture, do make mistakes and have to back-track.
The very worst was assembling a piece of gym equipment (I called a "Shooglenifty"). The very last screw dropped down inside it. I didn't think it would matter. It did - the whole thing was imbalanced. Had to completely dismantle it, retrieve screw - and reassemble. Was not pleased Angry

RB68 · 15/07/2018 21:32

and exactly what did he achieve today... right nothing due to migraine. No problem with people being ill just a problem with people being dickheads at the same time.

BrexitWife · 15/07/2018 21:33

There isn’t such a thing as ‘taking too long’
The bottom is
You did it, despite the difficulties you had.
Having a go at you for being too slow is being a dick.
You were still wuickervthan him with his migraine as I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t have build anything today.

KlutzyDraconequus · 15/07/2018 21:33

Don't hide parts, that's too early, remove one of the smallest screws and a piece of dowel.

Watch as he hunts do them for ages, then gives up and tries to make it without them and it turns out slightly wobbly..

BrexitWife · 15/07/2018 21:35

Btw, it doesn’t sound like you were that slow either!

Otterseatpuffinsdontthey · 15/07/2018 21:35

Was going to "slate" your partner - but as he's had a migraine/been vomiting - will refrain Grin

Paddington23 · 15/07/2018 21:35

I’ve got a few screws left out of mine made a mistake and haven’t fixed it yet may just swap mine with his when he’s out give him
The dodgy one.

testingmitb · 15/07/2018 21:36

Of course there was the memorable time he built a large item of furniture and had it put together in such a way that he couldn't turn it up the right way or get past it to open a door for me to come and help him. Oh how we I laughed.

steff13 · 15/07/2018 21:36

I’m very dyslexic so reading the instructions and finding all the parts did frazzle me.

For future reference, see if you can access the US website. All the instructions are on there, and our instructions are all pictures; no words.
