It’s taken me 8 hours to build an Ikea dressing table one bedside chest of drawers it’s only a small one and tidy out a my wardrobe/ cupboard. I’ve also unpacked all my make up and products putting all my make up into the draw pots and containers I have. Is this way to long to do it in I can’t believe it’s already 9. I’m fucking hot sweaty and exhausted. Only had a few 5 mins breaks two for a snack one 5 min lay down for my back and a few wee breaks. Partners thinks I’ve taken so long to do so little.

@KlutzyDraconequus

Don't hide parts, that's too early, remove one of the smallest screws and a piece of dowel.

Won't work - they provide an extra dowel and extra small screws just in case.
I agree with a pp that a battery or electric screwdriver makes a huge difference.

The instructions were easy to follow (apart from when I chose the wrong bit of wood 😂 ) as they were all pictures, no text. Just one step per page. The important thing is DON'T PANIC.

I’m sure having someone with an ice pack making helpful comments didn’t slow you down at all Hmm

Seriously, if he had a proper migraine he’d be lying down somewhere dark.

It doesn’t matter how long it took you, you got it done.

I’m fairly quick at furniture assembly, but I’m hopeless at putting stuff in the furniture Grin. I’m impressed you actually did that bit.

Yes, when I have a migraine, I can't even speak to people or look at things. I think he just had a headache - or was it a hangover?

Orangecake123 · 16/07/2018 09:30

Congrats on finishing! It doesn't matter how long you took but the fact that you finished. I don't think I would attempt to self build anything from ikea.

^My dh is wonderful. Most of the time.
But he seems to take a cruel arrogant arsehole attitude to me doing things like this that he could do much more quickly. Well fuck him. It gets done in the end. So, Ive stopped letting it bother me.
NYANBU. He's a dick.^
@Oldaintallthat Men get more practice from day one on putting things together. They're given more constructiony toys from the start too.

It's all a matter of practice, some seem to think it's some sort of magic fucking skill that comes straight from the dick. they simply have more practice. The more you do it the quicker you will get.

For example, it's take DH and a lot of men about an hour to assemble spaghetti from a jar Hmm

But practice makes perfect I always say and push him in to the kitchen.

Who died and made him king of the fucking flat pack?

Shoppingwithmother · 16/07/2018 10:42

I am very good at flat pack furniture assembly and live doing it. I could have probably done the assembly in under an hour on my own (I def don’t like anyone to help even if it’s a big wardrobe).

However the tidying would have probably taken me at least 7 hours (or probably not done at all!) so the end result would’ve been the same.Smile

This ^^ 😁

Nomummyonlyzuul · 16/07/2018 11:09

Flat pack furniture is my job in this house(sometimes with my bare hands Grin ), whereas OH gets a bit frustrated and shouty! I take my time too, if he wants it done quicker, tell him to jog on and do it himself!

allthefuckery · 16/07/2018 12:51

My dh never reads the manuals and usually gets something wrong. I take longer. But I get it right.
