To think that young adults are stuck on a toddler’s diet

Is it just me, or is there a trend for the messiest, sweetest, fattiest dog’s dinner of a dish amongst 20 somethings who pronounce it “amazing” and say “we HAVE to go here”?

I’ll post a couple of pics to illustrate. Maybe it’s just in Liverpool, but it seems to be that they’re all into the equivalent of the ice cream factory at Pizza Hut.

All of us 'young adults' think the candy floss burrito thing is vile. Don't base everything on comments on facebook - god knows how many are fake.

Also, people like treats. Didn't realise that meant we're on a toddlers diet, but when Tesco came out with a dairy/gluten free chocolate gateau I was on it!

MsFrizzle · 15/07/2018 18:58

Also: Maybe just a lot of people like sugar, seeing as you've now added everybody but your own age group?

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 15/07/2018 19:01

I would definitely eat that waffle although I'd have share it. I don't think even 6'6" DH and I together would be able to finish it though!

YABU, people don't eat like that all the time.

AHedgehogCanNeverBeBuggered · 15/07/2018 19:02

Oh, and I wouldn't dream of feeding any of that to DS! Shock

Metoodear · 15/07/2018 19:03

Hipster tat

Like this fucking creal bar

Applepudding2018 · 15/07/2018 19:06

Toddler food? Who on earth would feed their toddler something like that? I thought you were going to say that a lot of young people don't seem to have progressed past chicken nuggets - and I would agree with that to some extent.

Momo18 · 15/07/2018 19:14

Yabu, we all eat shit at times.

thegreylady · 15/07/2018 19:15

Chocolate Pizza anyone?

I think most of us did have a sweeter tooth when we were younger though and tastes just change. I drank much sweeter wines for instance in my 20s that I wouldnt touch with a bargepole now.
The baltic market has all sorts of food stands Chinese, Mexican, Italian, Jamaican etc. I imagine the dessert you posted would be shared as a treat, bits hardly everyday food!

MrHoolieswaistcoat · 15/07/2018 19:21

Mrsmadevans I’m with you on that one. Blue food is simply wrong (icing excepted).

IsBrexitOverYet · 15/07/2018 19:22

I’m 23, I’m in a professional career (and therefore I feel comfortable for the first time ever paying twelve quid for some sugary chocolatey ice creamy thing every so often), and I generally eat healthily. There’s nothing wrong with that. It doesn’t make me eat like a toddler
It’s also not exclusively a young adult thing, DH (in his late thirties) and I shared a ginormous kaspas pudding the other day.

Eating pudding doesn’t automatically make you eat like a toddler

MyFriendFlicker · 15/07/2018 19:22

Who are the young adults that you know? Are they friends of yours or your DC?
My 20 something DC eat a healthier diet than me as do a lot of their friends. .

Lockheart · 15/07/2018 19:24

I’m in my 20s and think most of the shire that pops up on my Facebook is diabetes waiting to happen. It’s too much!

The only thing I’ve ever tried was a “unicorn cookie dough” at this pop up place. It was nice, but the one serving they gave me lasted three days! Lord knows how you’re supposed to eat it all in one go on your own.

That said I think these things are designed very much as “one-offs” - the problem is nowadays they become regular occurrences once or twice a week, like those Costa and Starbucks coffees that have approximately 3lbs of sugar in.

Once in a blue moon is fine though!

TitsalinaBumSquash · 15/07/2018 19:24

Peanut butter m&m waffles are the nuts and I would eat a candy floss taco ... I'm 31

flamingofridays · 15/07/2018 19:25

Op doesn't like something. Other people do. Shock horror!

buddahbelly · 15/07/2018 19:28

Have you been to the Baltic Market at all to see the other wide range of foods there, its not all m&m's and ice cream, in fact I think its only the midnight delivery there doing it. We've been quite a few times to sample each of the sellers stuff and never been disappointed - we took ds for a treat for his school report and he got the pizza and cheesecake for dessert.

People will eat what they want, whether adults or your "young adults" and dont need to be judged.

Flatearthersphere · 15/07/2018 19:28

At least its not a blue waffle

MarthaArthur · 15/07/2018 19:32

Yanbu op its vile the desserts around now. Theres a trend in liverpool/manchester and probably other cities now of the most sugary diabetes causing.desserts. like 3 desserts in one.
A huge mason jar full of cream. Brownies. Cake pieces. Ice cream. Candy floss with an actual syringe of toffee sauce in it and a full donut or two on top. Thats a big thing here at the moment. Thats more than 3 desserts in one and people are finding it normal to eat that as a single.dessert.
And theres also a company in liverpool that is a fast food delivery that is solely for desserts and some of the monstrosities on there delivered right to the door is very common. Its not always a one of thing. People are eating it regularly up here.

Each to their own though. I am an absolute sugar junkie and even im not tempted by these things.

KennDodd · 15/07/2018 19:37

I think we should just give it a rest slagging off young people really. They study harder than we did, use less drugs and alcohol than we did have a much harder time buying a house and getting a secure job (not 0 hours) have to do unpaid internships. I grew up in the 1980s, my diet was shit.

Stuckinthis · 15/07/2018 19:39

I’m 30. I wouldn’t eat that blue thing because it’s not my taste - I would absolutely eat a chocolatey, peanut butter thing topped with cream and syrup if the mood takes me - and I would also turn down a ‘classic’ dessert like Eton Mess for being too sweet (meringue is sickly sweet, but apparently that’s acceptable sweet for you?).

But I wouldn’t make an assumption about someone who orders an Eton Mess that they constantly gorge on sugary desserts. I would assume, like people who eat an occasional sweet waffle, that it’s a treat and not an every day event.

And honestly, I hate people who complain about consumers eating high calories foods and choosing a Diet Coke. It’s not an all or nothing approach. Or should we ask the same question about people who order a burger and no fries, or people who don’t opt for stuffed crust on their pizza or even worse, though pesky people who go out for a meal and turn down dessert?

Stuckinthis · 15/07/2018 19:43

Oh, and in regards to your concern about obesity - 2/3rds of the 35+ age group are overweight or obese. 2/5ths of the early 20s group are overweight or obese. So just maybe we should start looking at older groups diets and critiquing them in the first instance. Hmm

XiCi · 15/07/2018 19:47

People are eating it regularly up here
Are they though? I live and work in Liverpool, have a really wide social group of all age ranges and a big family of siblings,, nieces and nephews in their 20s and I don't know a single person that eats shit like that

BlueTears · 15/07/2018 19:47

OMG why are you paying that close attention to what others are eating Confused
Get a life and stop judging. Hmm

TheGreatCornholio · 15/07/2018 19:47

Heaven forbid that anything should be fun.

BlueTears · 15/07/2018 19:49

Oh and my mother ( early 60s ) would eat that...
I wouldn't ( early 30s )
