Getting pregnant while using condoms properly...

How does this happen?

If you use them properly, so no messing about before the condom is on, condom doesn't visibly split etc, partner removes himself once finished...
how??

I am having a mild freak out as I am a few days late and have been vomiting on and off for a couple of days. But I swear to god we use them as they say in the instructions.

Wouldn't be the end of the world, I am aware they're only 98% effective but I guess I thought that I would know if they had failed and would have warning so that I could get the morning after pill.

I also know AIBU is probably not the best section to post in, but I need people to talk me down out of this freak out, and I would love to get a test but my husband thinks I am being ludicrous and I am too "sicky" to face the outside world today.

Yes that is what 98% means. (Obviously each couple’s personal risks will vary by how old/fertile they are and how much sex they’re having in the course of that year.)

And crudely speaking, if that’s the method you use for ten years then your risk is approximately 20%. I do wish the risks weren’t presented in the way they are. A lot of people using contraceptives are truly rubbish at maths and don’t get percentages at all so if they see 95% or 98% or 99.8% then they just see “really good odds - you’re safe” when any working GP or abortion counseller will tell you that 98% is not at all the same as “fine, absolutely safe”.

I know that’s a bit doom and gloomy, but good luck OP, hope it’s a stomach bug.

I got pregnant when using them properly and I was a couple of weeks overdue and starting to feel sick before I twigged. If you are only a few days late I wouldn't worry though - even though it happened to me I still think it was very unusual.

If you didn't mess about before hand or afterwards and there was no split or hole in the condom then surely there is as good as zero percent chance of pregnancy. Condoms are impervious to semen.

I wouldn't worry if you are sure it was used properly.
