Parking situation on my new road.

JennaTools · 14/07/2018 22:43

I have just completed on a new house. When I viewed it I spent time on different days popping by the road at different times of day to checkout the parking situation and all was fine. My house and the one opposite have a drive for 1 car odd road and the others have space for 2. I only have one car.

The house opposite was for sale at the same time and the new occupants have just moved in a couple of weeks after me.
They have 6 cars!!!! (Green)

I have tried my best on the diagram to illustrate where everyone tends to park - each house has a coloured for above and then their cars are the same colour lines.
I only have one car so my driveway is ample however with green house wankers parking their cars all over the place - mainly at the end of the cul de sac - it's really hard to get out of my drive with cars also parked on the road in between my house (red) and my nice NDN (blue)

I've popped round and introduced myself and explained asking them politely not to park the three cars at the the end of the cul de sac (which is a dropped kerb. But they closed the door in my face and I haven't seen them since. Tonight they've got all of their cars all over the road as per the diagram.

What's my best course of action here?

Hello NNDN.

I wonder whether the CF neighbours are searching in vain to find the paperwork for their so-called parking spaces.

TheHauntedFishtank · 16/07/2018 20:57

mycatsapirate if you don’t have any joy with the abandoned vehicle route try planning enforcement. You may get lucky if they take the view it’s affecting residential amenity i.e. looks bloody awful.

smithsinarazz · 16/07/2018 20:57

Nobody has a right to a parking space on the public highway. Perhaps you could contact the council and ask them to give out a set number of resis permits?

Mummyoflittledragon · 16/07/2018 21:00

Hi NNDN. . What an arrogant attitude toward renters!

MycatsaPirate · 16/07/2018 21:03

Thanks for the heads up on abandoned vehicles and planning enforcement. I shall be getting on to that tomorrow.

PrincessConsuelaBanana · 16/07/2018 21:04

One of my favourite ever threads! Jenna and NNDN you’re both awesome - waiting on the edge of my seat for the next update Wine

Sofiathefirst2346 · 16/07/2018 21:07

TheHobbitMum that made me giggle, fab reference!

bellabasset · 16/07/2018 21:08

To mycatsapirate Google 'check if a car is taxed' and enter the reg no, then report it if it is not. DVLA do regular checks on untaxed vehicles. They clamp and put s notice on, costs £250 or so to remove it once you've paid the tax. Otherwise vehicles are removed.

Love the diagrams. Don't forget to keep a photo record of the parking problems for future use. You can email these to the council, obviously once you've checked they're all legal.

Sofiathefirst2346 · 16/07/2018 21:08

Amazing reference, made me giggle (that day bread made me howl...with laughter/beauty) xx

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 16/07/2018 21:10

Whether or not the estate agent told them anything at all about the ownership of the road, what sort of idiot would rely on the word of the person trying to sell the house and not check it out with their solicitor?

Racecardriver · 16/07/2018 21:15

The estate agents probably just said something along the lines of 'there is plenty of on street parking, you could probably park a couple of cars at the end there' which cunty neighbour took to mean if you will own the whole road if you buy this house.

hmbn · 16/07/2018 21:15

See if there's a covenant on your properties about commercial vehicles. I know that some houses have them - often new builds - but not sure if your house has just been built or is new to you!

It must be a nightmare for you; sorry to hear about it and I hope the situation gets better.

hmbn · 16/07/2018 21:17

Should have said I haven't read all the posts so perhaps I've covered old ground.

missbattenburg · 16/07/2018 21:21

Then again who the hell buys a house with space for one car when you have six.

Looks out at my neighbours, some of whom spent £180k on houses with only a single drive just so they could park their £40k+ Range Rovers, Porches, Maseratis (plural) on the street.

Confused
MrsSteveMcDonald · 16/07/2018 21:22

Hi NNDN totally not placemarking

InfiniteVariety · 16/07/2018 21:36

Over the last 20 years since we moved to the house we live in now I have often struggled to get out of my drive because of cars badly parked either side of it. In 2007 I approached the council about painting double yellow lines, they sent someone out to look and we had a very civil conversation in which he explained several reasons why they were not keen to do so. Ah well, that's that I thought.

Fast forward 11 years.... and what do you know, 2 weeks ago they came and painted double yellow lines down both sides!!!! I was so excited I thanked the men who were doing it but I have no idea why they changed their minds.

So do take your problem to the appropriate authority OP though you may need patience!

Trudij123 · 16/07/2018 21:37

My ghast is flabbered - cheeky CF !!!! Well done to you Jenny ( agree re name and diagrams!) and NNDN !!

IrisTs · 16/07/2018 21:42

OP

"If the offence is committed on a public highway or the car is blocking the driveway while parked on a public road, the council has the power to act".

Keep reporting for the lack of access and take photos !

Celticmombella · 16/07/2018 21:43

HI NNDN Grin

MoorMummy · 16/07/2018 21:48

Still following, I’d had screwed the note up and posted it through their letterbox, but I’m childish like that.

Br1256 · 16/07/2018 21:48

As far as I know it is illegal to park blocking a dropped kerb, you can report them to traffic enforcement and they will get a ticket, but this also applies to you even though it is your own dropped kerb.

Why have they got six cars are they by any chance selling cars...if so this is a matter for trading standards I think...car dealers are not allow to sell cars as though it is a private sale.

I think parking in the road at least for the time being is your best option

Wrigglet · 16/07/2018 21:49

Check whether their cars are taxed and insured www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-tax. If not, you can report it if they are parking on the road. I’d park behind them blocking your drive but also blocking them in. Are they parking on the pavement? If so, you can also report them to the council. Good luck!

TheMonkeyMummy · 16/07/2018 21:54

OP has already stated that they are all legal except the one on the drive.

JennaTools · 16/07/2018 21:55

So this has got me thinking about things, most houses locally here were built when families had one car, two if they were lucky and have parking appropriate to that. What's going to happen going forward as cars get bigger and bigger, demand for land gets greater and greater and builders keep building houses closer together to squeeze more in and people have more and more cars? The roads and houses can't cope with it as it is.

OP, your diagram is a thing of beauty and a joy forever. Also, hello to NNDN - you seem like all of the awesome, and make me miss my former very lovely NDNs who were just so very, very lovely. I hope this is the start of a beautiful friendship!
