AIBU?
I think she looked absolutely ridiculous in that red dress when she greeted Trump at Blenheim palace.

She looked out of place and was perhaps trying to compete with melania trump...obviously a formal event but that dress was a bad choice and didn't suit her AT ALL.
The slit....🙈

Her dress was appropriate for the formality of the occasion. Donald Trumps clothing was appropriate for the formality of the occasion.

errr that's all folks.

Female Prime Minster Wears a Dress

anotherpersona · 13/07/2018 10:24

The dress looked fine & appropriate.

coolncalm · 13/07/2018 10:24

Trump gets far worse than anyone i've ever known

As long as you don't count any woman in the public eye.
Nonsense, i don't remember Margaret Thatcher EVER getting slated for her clothes. Maybe because she didn't put much emphasis on them and dressed in business suits, rather like the men in suits that don't get talked about. Hmm Whereas people that do love to dress up tend to get talked about, ( but only good positive things must be said), how bloody odd.

LanguageAsAFlower · 13/07/2018 10:25

I love to mix fashion and bunnies

STOP policing women by commenting on what they wear.

DailyMaiIisMyBogRoll · 13/07/2018 10:26

When I first saw this thread title, I thought “how unfair to criticise TM for her wardrobe”. But now I’ve seen news footage of her greeting Trump and Melania and I completely agree with you: its horrible shapeless front, and oh! that split up the back! Waaaay too high and completely inappropriate for dining with an alleged sex pest the occasion. My mind is troubled by it!

Arthuritis · 13/07/2018 10:30

@Seasawride

Maybe that's it but why did she hold his hand and then she steps back and invites him to step forward ahead of her. Maybe she just feels self conscious on these occasions but I'd like to see someone with a bit more presence to represent us. I can almost see her tugging her forelock in deference to Trump. She needs to believe that she is equal to these other leaders, not subservient to them.

RedToothBrush · 13/07/2018 10:30

Her body reveals that she is someone who is badly nourished, under-exercised and doesn't sleep properly. In short, she has an unhealthy lifestyle.

She is a type 1 diabetic.

On some of the photos you can see she had a plaster on the back of her upper arm. Its apparently use to help monitor blood sugar levels.

Control of blood sugar levels can be harder when put under stress.

Now all of the ugly sexism on this thread aside, and despite the fact that I really dislike Theresa May, I'd say she's having a bit of a stressful week.

Why should politicians and politicians wives aspire to look or be like Melania??! Why not hold up Angela Merkel or Hilary Clinton for their understated plain business like style AND their political ability.

Also, why is it ok to deride, mock and insult people who have socially akward mannerisms anyway?

Threads like this really piss me off.

Annabel7 · 13/07/2018 10:31

Another one here who couldn't care less what TM wears. This thread reminds me of this.. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-39416554. The sentiment comes from the same place as whoever wrote that DM 'news article'.

MsJinglyJones · 13/07/2018 10:31

They matter only if the person is wearing something properly inappropriate, or looks unwashed or unkempt. That's about it.

That matters too, but as many people have pointed out, her choice of dress on this occasion also made a political statement, which will have impacted on Trump though he may not have been consciously aware of it.

Bright red is a colour that says power and warns of danger. It matched the soldiers, tying her in with her military display that was ostensibly there to make him feel important. It was a ginormous "Don't mess with me" disguised as sexy glam (but also actually was sexy glam).

Clothes are semaphore, and say something about the wearer. Any clothes will do that, whether they say "boring fucker" or "lazy slob" or "bastion of the establishment" or "secret rebel", and whether or not the wearer chooses them deliberately. But May does and it's great to watch. I like seeing someone who enjoys and uses fashion in that way. It also says about her that she has a sense of fun and aesthetics.

LighthouseSouth · 13/07/2018 10:33

there's an argument for an IQ test before voting.

FreshHerbs · 13/07/2018 10:34

Theresa may gets it wrong all the time. She spends so much on clothes that do nothing for her figure or frame , I don't understand why she doesn't just hire a gok wan, he would see her right

Ivorbig1 · 13/07/2018 10:37

What a horrible post, it is rather sad that you feel the need to be saying nasty things about what another women is wearing.

kaytee87 · 13/07/2018 10:37

I'm sick of reading about people slagging of female politicians for their clothing and looks. They are not models, they are not in the fashion industry. I never see people slagging off what the male mps are wearing.

Make sure you write to her and let her know - she must be desperate to hear your opinion because she's got nothing better to think about has she? Oh wait.... she has.....

Trooperslaneagain · 13/07/2018 10:39

What a nasty thread OP.

I'm sure you're always looking your best. FFS

GahWhatever · 13/07/2018 10:40

I saw her on the news last night and thought the dress was an excellent choice. I'm someone who doesn't really notice clothes, but I noticed the dress and my initial reaction was positive.

Since the inauguration I've been fascinated by the people around Trump with fake arms so they can hide a gun. I wonder if that's why Melania wore a cape? Did anyone see both her arms moving simultaneously?

Chanelprincess · 13/07/2018 10:41

I thought it was an appropriate choice of dress in a bold colour to make a strong statement - Trump's body language around Theresa May suggested it was a successful choice.

kaytee87 · 13/07/2018 10:41

She's trying to compete with Melania trump?? 😂😂 don't be ridiculous.

MsJinglyJones · 13/07/2018 10:41

I never see people slagging off what the male mps are wearing.

Well you can't read much news then. Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn, Donald Trump, William Hague, Have all had thousands of style-slagging column inches.

I can't stand it when people just trot out this tired old crap that we focus on what women wear instead of what they do, and never do that to men.

a) we do do it to men, if you weren't so blinkered you'd notice.

b) I can discuss TM's dress and also, and in fact primarily, discuss her politics (in other contexts). Liking a dress doesn't actually hoover out all my brain cells.

PortiaCastis · 13/07/2018 10:41

Post a pic of yourself OP we'll pull you apart and seee how you like it

thegreatbeyond · 13/07/2018 10:43

Angela and Hilary look good, and businesslike. I think Theresa likes fashion, though, and has decided not to go with the plainer look.

She looks fine.

RedToothBrush · 13/07/2018 10:45

Ok Melania's dress.
Can we make a point about her looking like a would be Medieval Princess? And this representing how this is how Trump sees himself as a King and Melania is just a fashion accessory until he gets bored of her and gets a younger one.

Should May have dressed like Melania?
No. The dress was fine.
She looks good in a lot of the stills. She looks bad in others.
Thats posture and manner not the dress.

Arrrrgghhhhhh.

What they were wearing last night is just a distraction for all the crap coming out of Trump's gob.

Theresa may's awful awful red dress
Seasawride · 13/07/2018 10:46

Authuritis

I think she is just very self conscious and I sgree with RedToothBrush I don’t agree with her politics but to get to the top while coping with type 1 diabetes is a bloody big deal.

For that alone and for trying to sort Brexit which let’s face it no bastard can she gets my respect.

And her dress was stunning if I have to comment. Grin

RedToothBrush · 13/07/2018 10:47

They won't be commented upon in the same way.

They get commented on and criticised because they don't play the game and wear clothes which make a statement.

Google it. You'll find articles which don't like their plain style.
