Theresa may's awful awful red dress

AIBU?
I think she looked absolutely ridiculous in that red dress when she greeted Trump at Blenheim palace.

She looked out of place and was perhaps trying to compete with melania trump...obviously a formal event but that dress was a bad choice and didn't suit her AT ALL.
The slit....🙈

Oh and is her job more important and valuable than than the job of
Nurses.

Why are we allowed to criticise and poke fun at trumps hair? Isn't it irrelevant?

myusernameisnotmyusername · 13/07/2018 13:21

I looked at the dress this morning after reading this thread and I struggle to see what you are on about OP. I think it looked quite nice and Mrs Trumps dress was ok. The real issue to me is why we're welcoming them here in the first place not what is being worn Hmm

nothingreallymatters · 13/07/2018 13:24

Imo Theresa May always good. The dress was very elegant with a long pleat at the back.
I have read that she has diabetes ,perhaps she manages it by diet so that is why she looks painfully thin.

As for her politics ,she doesn't seem to have a clue about "real"life and is a control freak.

Theresa May is painfully thin? On what planet?

CtrlCandCtrlV · 13/07/2018 13:29

can't stand the woman, but she looked absolutely fine. That colour really suits her, and the cut is perfectly ok for her body shape. She wears what she wants, but I am glad she didn't wear a suit, the dress looked better.

I think Melania looked amazing, but frankly she always does. Totally different woman, totally different priorities and role.

AynRandTheObjectivist · 13/07/2018 13:31

The real issue to me is why we're welcoming them here in the first place

Because as a nation, we cannot refuse an audience with, and should respect the office of, the POTUS. We can hate him on a personal level and allow protests against his politics, but we cannot insult America as a country by rejecting the OFFICE of the president. If he were committing genocide or something in his country then yes, that would be different (war), but as it is - and believe me I hate the orange Wotsit - we must continue our trade discussions and open dialogue with our ally, America.

And we can do it while still flying a hilarious balloon over Parliament that shows what we think of the dolt who currently occupies the office.

NoelHeadbands · 13/07/2018 13:32

Why are we allowed to criticise and poke fun at trumps hair? Isn't it irrelevant?

Yes it’s irrelevant. We’re ‘allowed’ to poke fun in the same way that the OP was ‘allowed’ to start this thread.

It wouldn’t be indicative of inherent sexism and years of the suppression and objectification of a whole sex though. We wouldn’t be saying ‘know your place you funny haired oddball, and don’t come back until you fulfill your basic duty to be more pleasing to our eye. Then we’ll listen to what you’ve got to say’.

Sleeplessmeanderer · 13/07/2018 13:33

I love the man holding the sign saying ‘where do I start’ in the protests.

Trump may win a second term, he’s head of a huge trading partner, not dealing with him would be foolish - he isn’t even a dictator, he was democratically elected, sadly.

DearMrDilkington · 13/07/2018 13:37

Sorry if this has been asked already, but why does TM keep holding Trumps hand?

NanaNoodleman · 13/07/2018 13:41

Candidly I think we should be refusing to deal with trump unless he puts a bag over his head. The man is an eyesore.

Ariela · 13/07/2018 13:43

Can I just say that Theresa May will most likely have shopped locally (and where possible in her constituency) for that dress. Her hairdresser is the local village hairdresser who opens late especially for her (the security staff drop her off so you see them lurking and the light on) ditto the small gym she goes to in another nearby village in her constituency - she gets dropped off very early some days, and you see her security staff lingering outside.
She used to carry more weight many years ago but that was before she was diagnosed with diabetes. She & Philip shop locally in her constituency supporting local independent shops and is sometimes seen in Waitrose.
Whilst I may not agree with her on many matters, she has a difficult job to do and can never please everyone (unlike Diana). I do find even though she is PM she devotes a decent amount of time on matters in her constituency, she follows things up and gets things done (she does have good staff, but they will need a good leader to delegate instructions)

Personally I've not seen the dress but if she likes it and feels comfortable SO WHAT?!

Confusedbeetle · 13/07/2018 14:22

Nothingreally matters
Theresa May has Type One diabetes which has absolutely nothing to do with weight

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 13/07/2018 14:31

DearMrDilkington
Its thought that DT has an issue with going up and down slopes and stairs and does tend to grab someone's hand when he is doing it.

RosyPrimroseface · 13/07/2018 14:36

This is what history will remember about that dress...

Theresa may's awful awful red dress
LittleLionMansMummy · 13/07/2018 14:37

Damn you RosyPrimroseface you beat me to it by literally seconds!

Yes, having said I couldn't give a stuff about her appearance, there is an uncanny resemblance.

Jonbb · 13/07/2018 14:46

I have often wondered what misogynist women are like and why I don't actually meet any. It's because they are all on mumsnet . . .

TheViceOfReason · 13/07/2018 14:59

Jesus fucking christ.

Is her outfit REALLY what we should be talking about?

Fuck me.

If she looked like Naomi Campbell you'd no doubt be bitching that she should be paying less attention to her physique and outfits and more to running the country.

coolncalm · 13/07/2018 15:07

Why are women such judgemental bitches towards other women?
I've always thought this, That's why i don't understand the "sisterhood" thing, never see much evidence of it. Women are their own worse enemy.

RosyPrimroseface · 13/07/2018 15:10

Littlelion hehehe

coolncalm · 13/07/2018 15:10

The vice I find your first sentence offensive.

Bluebird1234 · 13/07/2018 15:20

Give the woman a break. She’s doing an impossible job and gets abuse from all angles. It’s time to acknowledge how she keeps getting on with the job in hand and tries her best for us. Would you rather Boris/Gove or Corbyn was in charge!

timeisnotaline · 13/07/2018 15:26

Forget the dress. Looking at the photo rosyprimroseface posted- is that bonnetesque concoction her hat? Why aren’t people talking about her hat? where can I get a hat like thAt?

In reality I think she can wear whatever the hell she wants, and prop up her bosom or not however she wants, running the country is her focus. And no she’s not doing a great job, but with colleagues like Boris... also everyone seems to have forgotten she was handed the shitstorm of Brexit by David Cameron who single handedly created it in an incredible act of arrogance and putting his political success above the welfare of the U.K.

MistressOfTheGarter · 13/07/2018 15:31

But that picture is of her astride. Not a very flattering pose that does not show the dress well.

I saw footage of her standing at the top of the stairs waiting for him and it looked great (imo) and so did she. She also wore a red wrap dress on a visit to Japan early in her premiership which she looked fantastic in. Overall I think she's been a pretty stylish PM. For some reason this is often overlooked by the press, whereas Samantha Cameron constantly got touted as some sort of style queen by the media and I always thought where??!
