Bing is an odd family set-up right?

Just watching Bing.

In today's episode, Bing did a Lenny from of Mice and Men and squished a helpless butterfly in his great big sausage fingers.

Flop, his main carer, is, inexplicably, a termite sort of creature, so couldn't bring the butterfly back to life, even though he has the lovely RSC voice of Mark Rylance. The miniature elephant thing placated the children with the idea of a funeral.

So all the children cried, and they buried the butterfly in the garden and lobbed a load of drawings into the hole.

'Butterflies. It's a Bing thing!'Confused

The episode the other week involved Mark Rylance as a termite popping to the shop for some carrots, which provoked a meltdown in Bing, as he was beside himself that Flop had left the house.

(Lighthearted. I am stuck indoors with a broken legged child. This is mostly new to me. But while we're at it how boring are Patchwork Pals?)

It might get more exciting, they keep plugging an advert for a dog that plays a guitar, and a woman in a pink jumper emblazoned with said dog's face twirling round for the joy of it.

I really don't know what to say to that, except that I have seldom seen such outright perversion! Shock

Ah well, sleep deprivation can do funny things to you.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 10/07/2018 11:17

I am currently listening to Dr Ranj talking about 'runny poo' in detail, though, so really I don't know why I think I get an opinion.

DD is glued to it. Hmm

HarrietKettleWasHere · 10/07/2018 11:24

What is this sick-kid foster home that Dr Ranj is running?!

Thanks sleep, good to know!

Elledouble · 10/07/2018 12:27

I do love Dr. Ranj’s songs. I never expected to see a handsome doctor singing with a guitar about naso-gastric tubes, but I’m glad I did.

ASucculentchinesemeal · 10/07/2018 12:33

I actually love bing. I think they touch on some very real issues for children and don't beat around the bush sugar-coating everything. I did a little "well I never!" gasp and a monocle-drop in my tea when they asked if the butterfly was dead but on reflection I think it's a great episode. I'm very much in favour of giving kids proper explanations for things.

Fluffyrainbows · 10/07/2018 12:38

I hate Bing. 'It's a Bing thing' makes me want to bang my head on a wall. I'm not keen on the voice of his toy flop either. And flop is clearly past it in terms of adequate child care.
I've 2 children who do really like it, and I guess it's not as bad as Waffle the Wondertwat or Topsy and Twat but sometimes I really wonder what the hell is going on. I have now been watching CBeebies since it first aired which is many many years of toddler to so perhaps I've just been destroyed by too much.

JeannePoole · 10/07/2018 12:41

In the Bing books, Flop is his teddy bear

So there's some kind of bizarre love triangle with Hoppity Voosh? Shock

Rednaxela · 10/07/2018 12:53

I hate bloody Bing. So so whiny. DH and I have also discussed the trauma survivor angle. The kindest thing I could think is that maybe it's designed to resonate with similarly whiny kids and validate their apparently implacable whinginess. Demonstrate that any situation no matter how whingy can be peacefully and calmly resolved and the whinging can STOP.

LivingDeadGirlUK · 10/07/2018 12:57

I think Flop and Paget have a thing going on. That episode where they let Pando fall asleep in Bings bed so they have a sleepover.

NoProbLlama78 · 10/07/2018 13:04

Shes trying to lure him away from Amma

midnightmisssuki · 10/07/2018 13:12

Don’t knwo about bing but I do know that his English bothers my husband as it’s not right and my daughter used to pick it up - the kids are into Peter Rabbit and that bloody waffle dog, which is manageable. Better than that silly tippy and Tim or whatever they are called!

hellohello12345 · 10/07/2018 13:32

My nearly two year old is OBSESSED with bing. It's on repeat constantly and sends me mad. I never should have recorded them on the virgin box. She just screams 'more bing' when it gets to that summary bit at the end.

Yesterday she requested tee and mo though which was a VERY welcome change.

The shoplifting one.... stealing, it's a bing thing 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

SleepingStandingUp · 10/07/2018 14:02

We simply adore Timmy Time. My son laughs at it abs sounds rather like Timmy. DH and I laugh at the more episode ascend owl's face

ThisCannotBe · 10/07/2018 15:04

I've always thought it is all in Bing's head [insert whatever macabre theory for why he is dreaming/making it up, I have plenty].

See, his friends are an elephant, panda, whatever else, so the world of Bing is not exclusively 'rabbit'. Yet, the traffic light 'green man' is a rabbit.

What makes rabbits so special in a multi-verse of animals that they get to represent all road-crossers?

KittyB52 · 10/07/2018 16:23

I don’t mind Bing, even though he is a whiny, thieving bunny. Pando is ok, even if he

15 month old DD loves him, but has developed an obsession for Swashbuckle and all things piratey.

She also loves Yakka Dee, Hey Duggee (the tadpoles episode is amazing!), Dr Ranj and Twirlywoos.

Mr Bloom and his fake “Northern” accent and weird hairstyle can bob off. And he can take Mr Maker (and his fear of children) with him.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 10/07/2018 16:23

I quite like Bing. I have no idea why. I think I find oddly soothing.

KittyB52 · 10/07/2018 16:25

Pando sentence “takes his trousers off and breaks wind in the tunnel on the climbing frame.”

Mermaid36 · 10/07/2018 16:56

I love Dr Ranj (and the ng tube song!)

SleepingStandingUp · 10/07/2018 16:59

We enjoyed watching Dr Ranj in hospital but ng song gives me the rage and the lack of parental supervision annoys meme

OhHolyJesus · 10/07/2018 17:04

I don't understand who looks after coco and Charlie? You only ever see the 'red flop' drive off in the opening titles.

DwangelaForever · 10/07/2018 17:13

I hate bing so much. Between him being so Whitney, Pando taking off his trousers every 5 mins and everything being a bing thing 🙄🙄.

Pablo - I understand the importance of it but it annoys me, especially that point of fact giraffe AngryAngryAngryAngry. My daughter copies pablo and the bird by flapping her arms about - I only clocked on last week that's where she got it from cause she was doing it during the credits, it had me worried she was actually stimming before I realised.

I LOVE Hey Duggee although I don't like the fact they all hug him, if my daughter was going to a scouts type group I wouldn't want her hugging the group leaders - I think it sets a bad example of crossing personal space lines.

Peter Rabbit is the worst, especially when he leaves cotton tail by herself and she escapes Sad

NoProbLlama78 · 10/07/2018 17:16

The red one is their carer she leaves them with flop and drives away.

I think shes dating the panda carer that has left pando with paget who is clearly a dog.

MustBeThursday · 10/07/2018 17:52

Bing's one of my most hated CBeebies programmes. It's just so annoyingly whiny. DD1 (who mimics a lot of speech) says "Oh no" and "Owwww" in Bing sounding voice. It's horrendous. I much preferred her Woolly and Tig stage where everything was responded to with "Tig! No!" in a pretty good imitation of a Scottish accent.

I once had a dream that there was a Teenage years sequel to Topsy and Tim. It was terrifying.

Hey Duggee and the Twirlywoos are the best (although I do like a bit of the Clangers)

Elledouble · 10/07/2018 19:18

Oh god, Mr Maker - you can see his eyes screaming “I only came here to deliver the post! I’ve been trapped here for years!”
