To want to see transwomen be proud of being trans -

AIBU to want to see transwomen be proud of being trans instead of demanding we all agree they actually are women and always have been. And accusing anyone who disagrees with this of hate crime. I would like to know why can you not simply be proud of being transwomen?

Until a few months ago I would have thought live and let live,; been supportive of trans people, recognising the challenges and discrimination faced by them

But seems to me now that trans activists have no regard for biological women, for our concerns and our right to define our own needs, issues and spaces. For the fact that women also face challenges and discrimination.

For example girl guides still insisting they would not tell parentsif a trans girl ( ie born a boy) was sharing a tent with their daughters.
For example lesbians being called transphobic for saying they do not want to have sex with people born male.

I say these things in real life and people laugh, like that’ s ridiculous., it will never happen. That’s what I would have done a few months ago before I realised.

And now posting this I have no idea if this will be deleted by MN - will this be considered transphobic or is it a legitimate concern being expressed ?

politicians of all parties including Jeremy Corbyn and Penny Mordaunt ( Minister for women and equalities) would be in are actual women- and calling people who challenge that transphobic.

I agree. It's always better to be yourself than to pretend to be someone you're not.

Metoodear · 08/07/2018 10:17

Their not wanting this only to be placated and everyone agree that actually despite having a square jaw and penis an Adam’s apple and Tesicals and massive hand and feet their actually women

We will never win

Stright wire men defet every minority known to man to get their own way

Oops stray text at the bottom of my post above! Wish you could edit posts! . What I was saying there was about how all mainstream politicians including current minister for women and equalities are now chanting the ‘transwomen are women’ line .

Part of the problem is that some TRAs seem to want to be seen as 'trans' as a thing but also 'actual women'. So someone like Lily Madigan is desperate to be the first trans MP, and wants that accolade, but is currently a 'woman's officer' and thinks they are equipped to represent women because they are just as much woman as anyone else?

Shon Faye, Paris Lees, Munroe Bergdorf have all taken various places of women (Women Making History, Vogue, BFI) but also put themselves forward as 'trans'.

Surely either you are trans, or you are just a bog standard boring run of the mill woman like the rest of us?

Just wish trans women would dress appropriate to their age. I'm in my forties and wouldn't dress in a sparkly crop top, very short mini-skirts and high heels - and neither would my friends.

OP I'm with you on that. When I first started hearing about trans rights I was naturally supportive. Just like for black rights, women's rights, and gay rights. I thought this was more of the same until I learned more about it.

I still want trans to have rights. Just not other people's rights.

Metoodear · 08/07/2018 10:34

I have massive hands and feet, do I not get to be a woman?
mens hands and feet’s are usually much bigger than women’s my son 18 has size 12.5 feet I don’t no many women that have larger than a size 8 foot and I assure you a slap from my hand would be a lot different from a slap from my husband his hand is like a tennis racket it’s so big

Moonkissedlegs · 08/07/2018 10:34

Trans women just want to be women

But they can't be women, because they are not women.

I totally believe that transwomen have the right to live their lives in comfort, to not be discriminated against, to live free from fear of violence, to use their preferred name. I do not believe that they have the right to access sex based protections and rights which are reserved for women. Because they are not women.

Auldspinster · 08/07/2018 10:35

YANBU, but there'll be someone along in a minute to tell you what a transphobe and terf you are.

when straight people moaned about being referred to as 'straight' rather than just 'normal'

At least gay people wanted that differentiation, wanted to be accepted as gay people and wanted to end discrimination against them.

Trans rights activists don't want that differentiation.

We already have gay women/straight women.

We already have transwomen/women.

But that's not what the activists want. They want to deny their own transition and be accepted as actual women.

They want people to lie and that is what people are afraid of. Thought police. Speech police.

A transwoman is a transwoman. That is a fact. That is the truth.

Transwomen are women is a lie.

I think most men would come back with somthing a bit Hmm trarty I’d asked to shop for a women

CambridgeAnaglypta · 08/07/2018 10:49

I still want trans to have rights. Just not other people's rights. Brilliant!!

There's a guy near us who wears his wig in bunches. He has to wear a wig as he as a receding hair line - like men do.

It's like they are trying so say "look at me, I'm a woman". Rather than just dressing and behaving like a woman and getting on with their lives who no one notices.

Auldspinster · 08/07/2018 10:58

When you're being told that talking about gynaecological problems is cis privilege and trans exclusionary there's something badly wrong.

Limpopobongo · 08/07/2018 10:58

I must be getting too old for all of this. Why do they have to be proud? some maybe are, some aren't. Why dont they just get on with their lives it whatever way they choose? I personally dont care if anyone is bi/gay/str8/trans x/y/z/gender neutral. Its all BS to me and the vast majority of the populace.

Alternativefacts · 08/07/2018 11:21

Limpopobongo Ok so I guess it’s none of my business whether people are proud or not of who they are, that’s up to them....

....., but as Lastraineast so brilliantly puts it I want trans to have rights. Just not other people's rights. Nailed it.

Should I hand back my vagina?
A conundrum indeed.
Is it detachable? Like our caravan's towbar? Confused

Fairenuff · 08/07/2018 11:49

Its all BS to me and the vast majority of the populace.

I do think though that if crime is committed by a transwoman, it should be recorded as such, rather than the sex they identify with. Otherwise we will have rape and other violent crimes recorded as being committed by women. I think the majority of women would object to that.

ballsballsballs · 08/07/2018 12:50

YANBU.

letsghostdance · 08/07/2018 12:54

As someone who isn't trans I don't really think you get to decide what trans people should be proud of... Not really your business?

Moonkissedlegs · 08/07/2018 13:02

As someone who isn't trans I don't really think you get to decide what trans people should be proud of... Not really your business?

As a woman, I think it's fair of me to question transwomen who insist they are actual women.
