to not understand why people shout at their TVs

One of me neighbours is almost hysterical right now. "GO ON, GO ONNNNN" "YESSSSSSSS" "COME ON LAD."

I don't get it. The players can't hear them. It's pathetic.

pr. England just scored. He now sounds like he's giving birth.

It's called getting in the spirit of the game ya grumpy buggerGrin

Jozxyqk · 07/07/2018 16:20

I don't get football. Or team sports in general, TBH. I think I read, years ago, that it is supposedly a substitute for going to war? That could be total baloney, though... but YANBU, I don't understand why people shout at the TV either. I suspect England may have just scored again, I just heard another round of yelling outside!

LaGattaNera · 07/07/2018 16:20

Alot of people make noise when they are excited - nice to see/hear happy people.

MagentaRocks · 07/07/2018 16:21

I think it’s nice that people are passionate about something and express their joy and excitement. Although it feels more normal to do that if in a group.

NotAsGreenAsCabbageLooking · 07/07/2018 16:22

Because they are happy (or sad).

Understand it or not, people do get very emotionally invested in it. Don’t understand it personally with football... but I do shout at the rugby sometimes.

And at my sons sports day 😂

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 07/07/2018 16:23

I’m scaring my dogs I’m shouting so much

YABU you grumpy bugger

Sirzy · 07/07/2018 16:24

I do it when watching rugby. When you get into a game it’s hard not too!

rosamore · 07/07/2018 16:24

I always thought it was weird... but I just found myself shouting "get it out of the box!!!" almost involuntarily. Baffled myself.

Jozxyqk · 07/07/2018 16:24

To each their own, Costco. I don't judge, I just think it's strange. I will be judging when my street is covered, once again, in broken glass tomorrow from the drunkards walking home in the early hours... every bloody time. We live at the bottom of a very long residential area & they all trail past, singing loudly until it's starting to get light.

Emma198 · 07/07/2018 16:24

My cats are on edge my husband is shouting so much. mainly "Sterling you useless bastard!!" I'm doing my best to defend the poor lad with my limited knowledge of football.

Rachie1973 · 07/07/2018 16:25

It’s not so much shouting ‘at’ the TV as it is shouting at something we’ve seen on the TV.

MrsJayy · 07/07/2018 16:26

I am in Scotland nobody is shouting at their TVs Grin Dh will talk through programmes rant at the news it is bloody irritating I have no idea why he does it.

borlottibeans · 07/07/2018 16:29

YABU. I don't shout at footballers on telly but I do shout at politicians on the radio when I'm in my car. It's theraputic.

Jozxyqk I've started to develop a theory that we ought to let America win some international football matches, in the hope that once they start to feel more secure as a nation they might be less likely to start a nuclear war with someone. No wonder they're so unhappy when they're only good at sports no one else plays.

PinkHeart5914 · 07/07/2018 16:29

Blimey we have some fun sponges on here! It’s once every few years, a bit of shouting at the tv is fine.

Have you never enjoyed anything and got excited about it?

fairislecable · 07/07/2018 16:29

I need people to shout so I know when someone has scored and I can run in and watch the goal.

I can’t watch it as I feel so tense (and also because I have this weird thing that if I watch they will lose)!

DH has pointed out that my omnipotence does not stretch to influencing the footballers.

MrsJayy · 07/07/2018 16:31

I wonder if it is the theraputic thing that makes my dh rant at the telly? He did call Trump a bawbag the other day which amused me 😁

HateSummer · 07/07/2018 16:31

Because it’s fun!

SHOOOOT SCORE IT!!!

swampytiggaa · 07/07/2018 16:31

Emma198 my H is exactly the same 😂😂😂 I was just putting the washing out and could hear the same shouts from 3 houses in my row and from the social club down the road 😂😂😂

HerRoyalNotness · 07/07/2018 16:33

DH does this, is bloody annoying. During a replay he was saying, come on pass it, to the Stirling chap. As if he can change history Hmm

m4rdybum · 07/07/2018 16:34

Stop being a miserable sod.

We're currently screaming at Sterling cause he's fucking shit. It's therapeutic.

MidLifeCrisis2017 · 07/07/2018 16:35

I'm in the garden, v quiet rural road - usually. Every time something happens, the neighbours shout and all the dogs join in.

Emma198 · 07/07/2018 16:35

My husband rewinds and makes me watch 🙄

GrumpyOldMare · 07/07/2018 16:40

I don't get it either. No football or tennis on in this house. I couldn't care less about either. Whoever/whatever you're shouting at can't hear you!

kyrenialady · 07/07/2018 16:42

I've been shouting at the TV. Have a sore throat now.

kelper · 07/07/2018 16:44

I usually tell DS to stop shouting at the tv because they can't hear you (This is normal programmes, when he likes to warn people about snakes/bits of car falling off etc) but I've just yelled at the TV so I suppose I shouldn't tell him off if I can't follow my own advice!!
