I work in a small office with 3 other girls. I've been there for less than a year while the others have been there for years. Whilst I love my job on of the girls is driving me insane!! She's close to retirement age but insists on listening to an awful radio station every single day. It's all teeny bopper chart rubbish. It's HER radio so nobody can change it. The other girls don't like the music either but everyone is scared to tell her (she's a bit obnoxious and rude). But not just this... she sings along loudly to every song, really badly may I add. She makes my teeth grind! When she's not singing along to shit music she's talking out loud to herself! Going through everything that's she's working on. There's just never any peace. It's lovely when she's off so we can turn the radio off. AIBU to want to scream at her to shut the hell up!!!

Get your own louder radio

onalongsabbatical · 04/07/2018 18:39

Or possibly women...

abbsisspartacus · 04/07/2018 18:39

Ear plugs

Si1ver · 04/07/2018 18:40

Remove the fuse from the radio next time she's out.

Atalune · 04/07/2018 18:41

Just say- we fancy a bit of quiet this morning and ask her to unplug it.

Or wear headphones.

combatbarbie · 04/07/2018 18:42

All start wearing noise cancelling headphones....she'll get the hint

redcarbluecar · 04/07/2018 18:43

I like the idea of removing the fuse, but a direct request is probably the better approach! Could a few of you ask her, or is there a manager who could? It sounds horrendous.

pigsDOfly · 04/07/2018 18:44

I've never worked in an office where someone has a radio playing. How the hell do you concentrate?

How is one person allowed to dominate a room like that? That's how rude obnoxious people get away with things, everyone too afraid to challenge them.

Perfectly reasonable to tell her to turn off her awful noise.

Hadalifeonce · 04/07/2018 18:47

Ask her if she has a PRS licence. I think one is needed if playing music on business premises.

NewYearNewMe18 · 04/07/2018 18:47

Why is there always one who insists on telling everyone that girls and ladies is so incorrect ? It's beyond irritating when a dick wants to keep on correcting regional or colloquial speech. This isnt the English Department marking room.

Never have I heard anyone ever say 'I'll be late home Bernard, I'm going out with the women'.

LilMadAgain · 04/07/2018 18:48

Yabu for using the term girls and even more so for 'ladies'. Bleurgh. Directly tell the woman in question that you'd all appreciate a change in the music?

Biscusting · 04/07/2018 18:50

Never have I heard anyone ever say 'I'll be late home Bernard, I'm going out with the women'.

Hahahahhahahaha

Or better, I’m going out with those who have been born with vaginas and also identify as female.

Don’t wait up Bernard!

Rudgie47 · 04/07/2018 18:51

Ask her to wear headphones as you cant concentrate on your work.
If she wont then wear some ear defenders yourself they have them on Ebay for a few pounds. I wouldnt be getting upset about it when you can just do this really.

TellsEveryoneRealFacts · 04/07/2018 18:52

Yes your work need a PRS licence for that. I have got many shit radios turned off by pointing this out.

MissyMoooo · 04/07/2018 18:54

Oh I love some of your ideas! I didn't want to be rude to wear headphones but maybe I'll could ask her to wear some! Although I'd probs still need to listen to her singing along!!! It's infuriating, manager is aware but won't say anything (he's lucky he's in a different office!) I feel unable to say anything myself as I've only been there a short while and it's the way it's always been. And btw I always say I'm going out with the "girls" not the women or the ladies, you're missing the point of the post!!

OP posts:
MissyMoooo · 04/07/2018 18:55

@LilMadAgain seriously you hate the words girls and ladies? What on earth would you have me call them??!!! I don't understand what's so offensive about these words Confused

OP posts:
MaisyPops · 04/07/2018 18:57

She's out of order. She should wear headphones.

I'd get a manager to have a word and have a policy of no music in the office other than via headphones.

Wellthisunexpected · 04/07/2018 18:59

I worked with a woman like this. So so irritating.

ProperLavs · 04/07/2018 19:04

I'd have you call her a woman actually.

ShatnersWig · 04/07/2018 19:06

Well, when a man uses the term girls he immediately gets pounced on as being patronising. Only fair you get the same treatment. Equality and all that Wink

starzig · 04/07/2018 19:07

I don't think anyone's preference for girl, lady, woman, hen or bird is really the point of OPs post

SchadenfreudePersonified · 04/07/2018 19:08

If she wears headphones but continues her own out-of-tune warbling, she will sound even worse!

Could you not explain that it stops you from concentrating? Or take turns choosing the music for the office? (I day each and the fifth day an oasis of precious silence . . . )

starzig · 04/07/2018 19:09

But. Agree with silver. Sneakily remove a fuse or disconnect a wire.
