Vinegar smell in DD's room! Worried!

Hi

I've just been to check on DD (2yo) and when I opened the door I was hit by a strong smell of spur vinegar. It's horrid!

I don't know what could be causing it so now I'm obviously worrying!

Any ideas? It's nowhere else in the house.

Is she sweating quite a lot? Sounds awful but my DDs (16 months) feet smell vinegary when they have been sweating in her shoes all day.

TaleasoldasTimee · 04/07/2018 00:02

I'm not sure. It really stinks and fills the room! It's so strong. I'd of noticed her feet earlier.

Does she seem otherwise alright? It's probably just the hot weather messing with her body PH and making her sweatier than normal, but if you're worried or she seems otherwise not quite right, I'd make a doctor's appointment :-) I'm sure she's fine though!

TaleasoldasTimee · 04/07/2018 00:05

She's absolutely fine in herself just the room hums!

DP has just been in there again, it's defenitely not DD, he's given her a good sniff. It's stronger on the opposite side of the room to her cot.

My dd6 had the stinkiest feet from 3 months. Was bf her and asking dh was it me! It was her feet. Did not think this was possible at her age.

Some people are more smelly in the heat

Seasawride · 04/07/2018 00:08

Oh then cat piss?

Seasawride · 04/07/2018 00:09

Milk?

kitnkaboodle · 04/07/2018 00:09

is it an old house?? we occasionally get mice in the walls. If one ever dies there, there's a sickly sweet smell for quite a while ...Envy

TaleasoldasTimee · 04/07/2018 00:11

Oh DP mentioned he could hear something in the walls a couple of days ago! It could be mice/rat!

Gladyoupoppedround · 04/07/2018 00:12

Yeah-have u a cat OP? Ammonia smell of cats marking their territory might be described by some as vinegary.

kitnkaboodle · 04/07/2018 00:13

almost certainly. Have a sniff of the walls! You'll soon find the spot. It's an indescribable smell ...

kitnkaboodle · 04/07/2018 00:15

it's probably not a rat! even little mice can make a big stink ... esp. in this weather. Can last a few days unfortunately- then it just goes

TaleasoldasTimee · 04/07/2018 00:16

No we don't have a cat but there is a couple who wonder our garden occasionally!

Fruit under the bed etc. that's gone rotten?

avamiah · 04/07/2018 00:23

I had mice in my walls last year but it was Winter time when they tend to come inside .
There wasn’t any smell and they left as quickly as they came .

TheKarateKitty · 04/07/2018 00:24

Is there a nightlight on? I know some plastic can get odd smelling (like what you’ve described) when warm because the electronic/light is on.

7seas · 04/07/2018 00:25

I'm sure there was a similar thread last year about a smell in the Ops d's room? It was quite lengthy and I cannot for the life of me remember what the end result was. I'll try to find it.

TheKarateKitty · 04/07/2018 00:27

bouldenbrothers.com/strange-smells-house-come/ I always thought it smells fishy

TaleasoldasTimee · 04/07/2018 00:28

Could be rotten fruit but I don't remember DD having any up here. She's not allowed food upstairs. Thanks @7seas

Not sure if this could be it but when DS is sick he gets a really smelly ill breath. He jumped in the car after school the other day and I could smell it sure enough later that day he had high temp. If he is ill I can certainly smell it in his room when he is asleep.

just an idea as obvs you have said it is no coming from her cot. hope it goes away!

greengoose21 · 04/07/2018 00:37

You haven't used Valspar paint in there by any chance?

7seas · 04/07/2018 00:40

I've had a good search back and can't find the thread so I'm presuming it was in "chat" and therefore disappeared. Hopefully someone will remember it though.

TaleasoldasTimee · 04/07/2018 21:30

Thank you all for your help! I had a search in DD's room earlier and found the offender!!

It was a pot of rotten grapes! I bought them over 2 weeks ago 😱 They were hidden in her play tent! Worst thing I've ever smelt Envy not envy!

I'd say sweat. It stinks.

Kids tend to sweat alot more at night because they can't control their body heat.

My ds1 is 3 and sweats unbelievably when he's asleep. Ds2 is the same. He's 10 months and leaves wet patches on the bed. And it stinks just like vinegar.
It soaks into the covers. So I change them regular and have a waterproof cover over the mattress, because if it gets in there it will stink forver.

Seriously, they wake up on a morning, and their hair smells like vinegar.
I keep ds window open all day because it does stink. It does drift away eventually.
