Yes, I do understand that people are excited about the football, but it’s Tuesday night and my DC, who is completely exhausted, has to get up early for school - the rather scary shouting has just woken her up. Yep, I know someone will say I should move to the middle of nowhere. I would love to - as many people would - but sadly that’s not possible.

A nice tale amongst such soulless comments Toddler.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 04/07/2018 06:40

10pm is not late!!

rhebarb · 04/07/2018 06:49

Is it "hip" to not get football? (In which case I'm another "esoteric hipster" currently making this face Confused)

It's just a fucking ball being kicked around. I do not get it at all.

Imagine if the world went utterly crazy with joy because someone washed a dish and dried it. It's that level of WTF and nothing to do with superiority.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 04/07/2018 06:51

Nah.

I shouted then I burst into tears. Soz pal.

lovesugarfreejelly63 · 04/07/2018 06:53

I cried with joy when England won, and I am old enough to know better!

Babdoc · 04/07/2018 06:55

I would have loved some screaming fans to celebrate with. Sadly, I live in Scotland, and they more usually support England’s opponents. So I screamed and danced on my own, until my sister phoned from England and we screamed down the phone together!
I was afraid I’d wake up today and found I’d just dreamed it. England - winning a penalty shoot out?! Fabulous!

Roomba · 04/07/2018 06:57

My five year old couldn't sleep because it was 28.5 degrees in his room. I couldn't open the window as next door were screaming obscenities full volume (when they weren't singing) and it not only kept him awake it scared him! One guy sounded particularly aggressive. I knew he was just a bit excited by the football, but DS didn't.

Anyway I didn't moan, I was glad we won! I put a fan on for DS and he finally fell asleep. BUT I was starting to get rather pissed off with it all by 1am, when the shouts of Come on England, singing and cheering were still going on in next door's back yard and DS was woken up for the 5th time...

DontDrinkDontSmoke · 04/07/2018 07:05

Don’t suppose you get a lot of that sort of thing up there. Where you can hear pins drop.

The pin drop was one of those joke things you get.

Funnily enough a huge contingent of Columbia’s noisiest fans in Scotland last night. I’m expecting an invasion by the Swedish and all those with Swedish grannies coming out of the woodwork at the weekend.

There you have it folks: England’s attitude. Get aggressive with anyone who disagrees.

Interesting response from someone using racial slurs.

Itchytights · 04/07/2018 07:08

Oh come on. It’s the world cup and once every four years.

YAB most unreasonable and very miserable.

Here, have a Biscuit

Itchytights · 04/07/2018 07:11

Worldwidewanderer

Well aren’t you full of the joys.

Why post such miserable and sour comments

Close the door on your way out please

DeathlyPail · 04/07/2018 07:11

Not reading the whole thread as I have to drag myself to work shortly, but we watched the game at home, after that penalty we turned the sound down on the TV and could hear the celebrations from the centre of town over a mile away. Must catch up with DC who was there but don’t think I’ll wake them this early as they don’t have to work today and were very late home.

UserX · 04/07/2018 07:12

What?

JacquesHammer · 04/07/2018 07:13

The football mentality is totally alien to me

There you have it folks: England’s attitude. Get aggressive with anyone who disagrees

I do find it strange when people seem to think a group of people is a homogenous mass who all think and behave the same way. Fairly simple thinking Confused

x2boys · 04/07/2018 07:14

us too @KERELA1 I am no Football fan and neither is dh but come on the match was a bit exciting , only on here could, you get people desperate to out do each other about how much they hate football, and therefor better than those who like it Hmm

TooTrueToBeGood · 04/07/2018 07:14

Jeezus. Even some of us Scots were cheering them on (though we'll never admit it in public) it was that emotional a game. Your kids will survive an occasional noisy evening.

smileandbehappy1 · 04/07/2018 07:18

Live a little. Worse things happening in the world than people celebrating an England win. It doesn't happen every week!

AESLEHC · 04/07/2018 07:25

YABVU.
I've bitterly accepted that EVERY time it's hot the arseholes in my street start drinking at about 10.30 am in their front gardens and then it all kicks off around 10pm in the street when they all start fighting or blagging windows.
Consider yourself lucky it could be so much worse.

MrsFassy · 04/07/2018 07:29

All those sneering at football just being a bunch of 'entitled overpaid brats kicking a ball around' are any of you aware of the level of sacrifice and dedication it takes for them to get to this level? Could any of you do it? No didn't think so.

JellyBears · 04/07/2018 07:30

Why is football coming home? They Haven’t won yet.

fleshmarketclose · 04/07/2018 07:30

I didn't watch it but enjoyed seeing ds and dh getting excited. We're on holiday in Scotland in the middle of nowhere so only the sheep were disturbed by the cheers here.

vandrew4 · 04/07/2018 07:34

NoNo it is a well documented and proven fact that domestic violence increases significantly when we lose at these football matches. Please do not be so dismissive of the genuine pain and fear that occurs
you got a link to that?

Shortstuff08 · 04/07/2018 07:34

I enjoyed last night. Don't even really like football. It was great to hear so many people being happy.

I also have kids.

I was really uninterested in the Olympics. But people loved it. No way would have I have seen my arse because people enjoyed it.

Can't believe there is this talk of knackered drivers. I watched it all and was in bed for 10.30pm. Loads of people aren't in bed then, even if there isn't a game on.

If people choose to drink drive this morning, that's down to them. Not the football. It's ridiculous. Tons of people manage to watch football, gets sleep, don't drink and drive and don't attack their partners.

Me and do managed that. Watched the game, no alcohol, no fighting, decent nights sleep.

People who act like wankers do so because they are wankers. Not because there's sport on.

Shortstuff08 · 04/07/2018 07:39

I have seen the stats regarding an increase in DV during football tournaments.

Yes those women must be in fear Every time there is a game on. However those women will live in fear the whole time anyway. When their OH comes home from work, had a bad nights sleep, doesn't like their dinner, has a drink on a Saturday night.

DV also starts a lot when the woman is pregnant.

To suggest people should not enjoy the football because of DV, is ridiculous. Maybe people shouldnt enjoy having dinner or being pregnant because other people live in fear during those times.

Male violence is the fault of the men who commit it. The circumstances around it, is just excuses.
