Was your daughter on a school trip at Alton towers today?

Was she late for her bus? did the teacher lose his rag at her in the middle of the entrance area? If so is she ok?

Can’t believe what I saw today, two girls were 20 mins late back, yes they should be in trouble but they did not deserve some teacher screaming at them, I was 75 metres away and could hear everything I felt so sorry for the girls. I was in a queue and I wasn’t talking about it to the other people in the queue, I was about to go over, but another teacher did.

Would love the name of the school to make a complaint to. Heat is not an excuse, I have lived in hot countries and never saw a teacher lose it like he did.

I know it’s not Aibu but posted here for traffic....

SoddingUnicorns · 03/07/2018 10:23

Or they could have lost track of time, got lost, deliberately been late, been pissing about....but no your assertion that teenage girls can’t control themselves around boys is right. Pfft.

topcat1980 · 03/07/2018 10:26

Yeah it probably is.

Sorry, but having been on trips like this many times, its the usual and mundane reason. I didn't say that they couldn't control themselves, you've added that bit yourself, they were mucking about, they lost track of time/chose not to come back. Still their own responsibility.

The WILD speculation on this thread is that a shouty telling off is then traumatizing the poor angels who did nothing wrong and that this is highly unprofessional and many teachers do it.

When in fact its standard, and the kids involved were probably asleep 20 mins after the fact and have thought less about it than you.

SoddingUnicorns · 03/07/2018 10:29

Oh right aye whatever. There’s always someone who blathers onto a thread asserting “years of experience” and then gibbering absolute shite 🙄

It is their responsibility, absolutely it is. But I’m not going to make assumptions based on absolutely nothing.

topcat1980 · 03/07/2018 10:34

"and then gibbering absolute shite "

Aye but its not shite, its the general reason why girls/boys are late back on trips like this. Please not I did use the word "probably" but your comprehension skills seem only to count when you are confirming your bias.

Plenty of other people have said the same thing and its dismissed by the pearl clutchers who then use it to attack the profession.

SoddingUnicorns · 03/07/2018 10:35

You’re calling me biased? Good grief you haven’t a clue you? Your own prejudices are blisteringly obvious and you cannot comprehend that your speculation was demeaning and nasty.

I needed that laugh this morning, thanks

topcat1980 · 03/07/2018 10:37

I do also note that there are hundreds of posts on here from people who didn't see this incident, have never taken a trip like this, and then you allow them to comment away.

I'd say being a retired teacher who has taken these trips many times allows me to use the benefit of my experience to make assumptions about the probabilities of what happened. Actually apart from being an eye witness ( and the OP was far away, and we can judge her vested interest on the fact that she started this thread) its probably far more accurate than any other speculations made here.

topcat1980 · 03/07/2018 10:39

You are biased, and you sought to critique my point by creating a strawman, deliberatley omitting the fact that the word "probably" was in there, not definitely, nor did I say that the girls could not control themselves.

But then had you taken that into account it would have made your point a little less relevant.

SoddingUnicorns · 03/07/2018 10:43

A retired teacher? Who thinks they know it all and wants the last word. Colour me unsurprised. You don’t like being challenged do you? Probably best you’re retired.

This is a bit Hmm ^

You can't generalise 'Topcat* - who knows why they were late on this occasion but I have absolutely no doubt you have come across the situation you have described. I certainly have!
The latest one - Three lads 30min late to the coach after a trip because they'd copped off with girls from another school! We thought we'd lost them. They were busy swooping numbers and saying their tearful goodbyes!
We found out about it because they couldn't keep their mouths shut about it on the way home! Grin

MoonsAndJunes · 03/07/2018 11:01

Retired and on a fat pension, whilst still brought in to consult at schools cause I'm a leader in my field and have vast experience in management.
You can't be that good at anything if you are of working age and able to post so much on MN during the day.

I got where you were coming from topcat until you wrote this...
You just sound nasty now.

topcat1980 · 03/07/2018 11:03

Ahem, did you not see the remark "best retired" ?

I'll give as good as I get.

MoonsAndJunes · 03/07/2018 11:07

Topcat Did you not see my comment re. 'best retired'?

Why give as good as you get? You can have a debate without lowering yourself to other peoples standards.

topcat1980 · 03/07/2018 11:11

Good point, I am a bit tetchy today, sorry.

Will have it deleted.

SoddingUnicorns · 03/07/2018 11:11

I sound nasty because I think someone who clearly has a low opinion of teenage girls is better away from teenage girls? Fair enough. I did get nasty. Because being patronised by a condescending know it all tends to do that to me.

Teachers who dislike children and perpetuate stereotypes (possibly rather than probably would have changed the sentence but hey I’m the thick one according to TopCat) are better not teaching.

topcat1980 · 03/07/2018 11:14

Again with the strawman points.

Who said I didn't like children? How does my post show that I have a low opinion of teenage girls?

I said what probably happened based on lots of experience of trips like this, another poster said the scenario described it happens a lot, as have others.

You are constructing an argument of your own, not related to the point I made, in order to try to dismiss me.

D -, lacking critical thinking and not answering the question proposed.

SoddingUnicorns · 03/07/2018 11:18

Fair enough topcat I apologise for my tone.

But if you think your disdain for teenage girls isn’t clear from your posts then I think it’s highly ironic that you continually insult my intelligence (not exactly classy eh?)

Assumptions make a fool of the one making them, maybe something to bear in mind.

Oh and I never said anything about the bollocking from the teacher beyond that it must have been loud for the OP to hear it.

I don’t actually care one way or the other, but I do dislike assumptions and generalisations about girls and women because they are unhelpful and damaging.

If you insult the intelligence of anyone who disagrees with you it says an awful lot about the kind of person you are. Smug mostly.

Enjoy your pension.

topcat1980 · 03/07/2018 11:24

"But if you think your disdain for teenage girls isn’t clear from your posts then I think it’s highly ironic that you continually insult my intelligence (not exactly classy eh?) "

What cause I said they were probably mucking around with boys from another school? That is the most likely reason! Having been there done that got the T shirt with these types of trips 99% of all latecomers ( of all genders, these were girls in question though) have been having a whale of a time with their new friends.

"I don’t actually care one way or the other, but I do dislike assumptions and generalisations about girls and women because they are unhelpful and damaging. "

But I didn't do this, you are creating this argument in order to criticise me, its a strawman and identifying it as such is not insulting your intelligence I'm smug? Ad hominem, more argument failure.

Sorry, make a valid point rather than the flawed ones you have tendered and the debate will be better.

Is there some sort of battle for a 'smart arse' trophy going on?
🏆

MoonsAndJunes · 03/07/2018 11:29

Sorry, shouldn't have said that...
Non of my business. Carry on...

topcat1980 · 03/07/2018 11:31

Me me me I wanna win it!

But back to what I said before.

In reality this was a very mundane, and typical, event at a school day trip away, blown up and debated more here than it was ever thought about by any of the protagonists in the case.

Seriously, have you ever seen teens after these things? The excitement and sugar wear off in the hot bus and then they sleep most of the way home.

SoddingUnicorns · 03/07/2018 11:54

Have it topcat, I’m really not that bothered. In fact I’m quite annoyed with myself that I rose to the bait of a nippy random on the internet.

Silly of me.

So here you go 🏆

rosesgarden · 03/07/2018 14:00

Teachers get treated like shit by so many pupils these days, the way some kids talk to them is shocking.Parents are usually to blame, going by what you hear from them on open nights, parents having issues with just about everything, never supporting the teacher, their little darling is always blameless. Many times the teachers just can't win.

So what if a teacher shouted, they're only human, they have to put up with a hell of a lot.

BoneyBackJefferson · 03/07/2018 17:35

qwertyuiopy
They get paid by them, but their “clients” are the parents and children. They do their work for them.

If you are going to change it to clients lots of professionals blame their clients, not just teachers.
