Was your daughter on a school trip at Alton towers today?

Was she late for her bus? did the teacher lose his rag at her in the middle of the entrance area? If so is she ok?

Can’t believe what I saw today, two girls were 20 mins late back, yes they should be in trouble but they did not deserve some teacher screaming at them, I was 75 metres away and could hear everything I felt so sorry for the girls. I was in a queue and I wasn’t talking about it to the other people in the queue, I was about to go over, but another teacher did.

Would love the name of the school to make a complaint to. Heat is not an excuse, I have lived in hot countries and never saw a teacher lose it like he did.

I know it’s not Aibu but posted here for traffic....

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 perfect. I hope Utopiawhatshername is ready. Makes Grange Hill look like Upper Fifth at Mallory Towers.

Beehiveyourself

How far do you want to take that statement?

The truth is that we all have a responsibility to set a good example.
Whether its teachers, parents, footballers, film stars.
All of us are supposed to lead by example.

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 29/06/2018 22:44

@Thecrabbypatty I will warn my 'human klaxon', a mouthy, salt of the earth sixteen year old with the vocabulary of a sailor, who can spot weakness at twenty paces, to shout "yer no allowed tae shout at us mind!" every time @qwertyuiopy loses it. She has a 'Castlemilk facelift' hairdo so will be easy for the audience to spot her amid the mêlée 😃

As a teacher, I have shouted a few times but never once actually lost my temper. It's all pretend to make your point

Thecrabbypatty · 29/06/2018 22:50

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 can we ensure your klaxon has also just fallen out with her best mate directly before the lesson for extra tension in the room? Producer's love that stuff and I assume she is going to want to discuss it loudly and in depth to anyone that wants to listen.

Beehiveyourself · 29/06/2018 22:51

Are those that are, rather immaturely, picking on poster with a different point of view, all teachers?

millymae · 29/06/2018 22:51

If it was my daughter that was late I wouldn’t be worrying too much about the fact that the teacher lost his rag with her. I’d be more concerned that she got herself into a situation that made her so late.
To my way of thinking other than stopping to save a life there is nothing that could justify her keeping everyone waiting for such a long time when everyone else managed to get back on time. If she had a mobile phone I would hope that she at least had enough common sense to phone another of her friends on the trip to ask them to let the teacher know that she was on the way back.
It may well be that if she’d done this the teacher’s reaction as witnessed by the OP was over the top, but I’d like to see how all the other teacher bashers on here would have reacted has they been placed in his situation. I don’t think there would be many who would accept such lateness with an air of calm.
I’m not a teacher and have no friends that are, but I imagine that on reflection the teacher concerned might not be feeling particularly brilliant about how he handled the situation. Equally I would hope that the two girls have been left in no doubt that they didn’t exactly cover themselves in glory . I don’t for one minute think they will be scared for life by being shouted at so publically and perhaps next time they’re out with others they wIll be a bit more mindful of what’s expected of them.

Babyroobs · 29/06/2018 22:52

They had probably been waiting an hour in a queue and just reached the front ! The teacher had probably had a very long hot day and could be tired / have been up all night with a toddler/ hormonal/ menopausal or just have a short fuse. People are human.

Very well said.

The 70's was really cruel if you were a child with learning difficulties OP.
We were physically and mentally abused, I found it torture tbh.
I hate the idea of teachers shouting at kids, because I know how damaging this can be.
But ffs if one of my kids ever did anything like this I would be shouting at them myself too. They need to know that the world doesn't revolve around them and that actions have consequences. One of which is getting yelled at if 20 mins late, for all the reasons listed above.

MissMarplesKnitting · 29/06/2018 22:55

One of my favourite tricks is to "lose it" with a miscreant for just a few seconds ....then switch instantaneously to sweetness and light. Rest of class looks utterly bewildered.

Kids think you're slightly unhinged... It's aaaalll an act.

Teaching is in large part an acting job. Just with fewer opportunities to go to the priory for a month with 'exhaustion'

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 29/06/2018 22:55

Love the plot twist @Thecrabbypatty. And they've fallen out over Darren (also a class member) who's been "talking to" them both on SnapChat....and there's a party tonight at Kayleigh's House and most of the class will be attending. The drink hasn't been bought yet so there will be ample chance in the 50 minute lesson to discuss what they're going to buy, whose big brother is going to buy it for them, if Jordan will be supplying the ching and grass, and who's wearing what.

SheerKhan · 29/06/2018 22:55

Another precious snowflake post. Pass me the sick bag.

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 29/06/2018 22:57

@Beehiveyourself you up for taking my S4 lot then? Sadly, @qwertyuiopy and @Zzz1234 appear to have fucked off, sadly.

shakeyourcaboose · 29/06/2018 22:57

@queenofthesilverdollar12 have you ever read Tom Shields in The Herald? Your mention of the Castlemilk facelift reminded me of a piece he wrote about Chateau du Lait and Maison de Paques! Grin

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 29/06/2018 22:57

@shakeyourcaboose love Tom Shields in the Herald!

mathanxiety · 29/06/2018 22:57

Colours
Then you've never experienced the intense pressure for teachers to take trips. I've seen people managed out because they don't want to go on trips and management have decided they are not 'team players'.

And that, folks, is what British education has come to.

I bet they do. 😳. I would think it too.

Rainuntilseptember15 · 29/06/2018 23:00

Babyroobs you sound far too reasonable for this thread!
Re the OP’s comment about why you’d travel so far - it’s very common for schools in Scotland to do trips to Alton Towers and that is a 4.5-5 hour drive (+!) involving an overnight departure. Many of the pupils then don’t come in the next day as they are tired, but guess who will be there, despite being equally tired?
I don’t volunteer for trips anymore largely because of attitudes like this, and the “why doesn’t the teacher have to pay to go” type threads.

qwertyuiopy · 29/06/2018 23:00

This thread has made me realise how lucky my DCs and I are to have a great school with great teachers. The school is v expensive. I have learned the teachers are worth every penny tonight.

RolyRocks · 29/06/2018 23:00

When that point of view was picking on teachers in the first place, I’m not surprised.

You know there are children living with parents who do that, MissMarplesKnitting? Maybe there are some sitting in your classroom?

Do you realise the damage that causes to those children? When parents do it we call it psychological abuse. It is a worrying thought that a teacher could consider this an appropriate method of controlling the class, not only because of the effect on students who see this at home.

wagil · 29/06/2018 23:05

Having been on adult coach trips where people stroll back late, I can honestly say that I would have dearly loved the tour guide to yell at them, preferably with a bit of humiliation thrown in. Then perhaps they wouldn't have done it at every single sodding stop off.

Teach 'em young I say. Well done that teacher.

Thecrabbypatty · 29/06/2018 23:07

qwertyuiopy that's great, thanks for sharing. I guess the poor kids will just have to put up with sitting on the Coach for hours then... Oh well. So long as yours are OK that's the main thing hey?
