To wonder how people drink

2.2L a day (the recommended amount)??

Seems quite stupid to ask but for the love of god, I cannot drink more than a pint. I feel like my body is drowning!

I did manage 2L once and my toilet time quadrupled!

I've brought a 2.2L water bottle so I've no excuses but I nearly fainted when I saw the size of it!!

Help me! I think I'm slowly killing myself from the lack of fluids.

Who recommends that? Often you read thins in magazines etc that aren't actually scientifically based

FuckPants · 27/06/2018 12:32

If I really push it I can drink over two litres of water a day, 750ml at work and two 750ml bottles at home, however I do end up pissing like a horse and on some occasions feeling bloated so unless I'm really thirsty I just do 1.5 litres a day.

witchofzog · 27/06/2018 12:33

I thought you were going to say alcohol Grin

I try to drink lots of water too and the key is little and often. It should be easier this time of year because of the heat

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 27/06/2018 12:33

by drinking a little bit regularly throughout the day and getting used to it. Don't drink it one go, too much water at once is just as bad for you!

Replace snacks with a few sips of water, have a glass before lunch.

I have seen some people claiming they couldn't drink so much liquid, but when they added up their cup of teas and coffee, they were very surprised about the results.

You will have many posters ridiculing the need to drink enough water, but you will be surprised of the difference if you keep it up.

Sunnymeadowrise · 27/06/2018 12:34

Do you only drink a pint per day? Do you not drink with more with meals? If not, could you try and drink more then?

TheFifthKey · 27/06/2018 12:34

There’s no requirement to chug litres and litres of water. For some people, it makes them personally feel better, but it’s very unlikely you’re dehydrated unless you feel ill - hasn’t it been shown we get most of the water we need from the food we eat, and if we drink when we feel the need, we’re generally getting enough?

IdLikeABiscuitPlease · 27/06/2018 12:34

When I was discharged from hospital, they said to keep on top of fluids.

I asked how much ideally & they said 2LShock

Put gin in it Wine

unintentionalthreadkiller · 27/06/2018 12:35

I drink way more than that, and feel odd if I dont.

I just drink it through the day.

delilahbucket · 27/06/2018 12:36

I quite easily get through 2L of water a day, plus tea and coffee. I drink even more when it's hot. I wouldn't buy such a ridiculously sized bottle though. It would feel like a mamouth task and water would quickly go warm in it. I have a 500ml. I fill it first thing, at lunch, and after the school run and then I switch to glasses of squash in the evening.

Captainladder · 27/06/2018 12:36

Little and often! Start the day off with a big glass of water or herbal tea.. or lemon in water... then if you really are struggling set a timer for every half an hour and have a drink.

You will initially be going to the loo alot, but if you imagine that your body is like a pot of dry soil.... initally when you water it the water runs straight through.. when you become more hydrated then your body holds on to more water.

You dont have to increase to 2.2l overnight... any small increase will be beneficial... maybe try for an extra glass a day and see how it goes?

IdLikeABiscuitPlease · 27/06/2018 12:37

My average is about a pint but that's with me pushing it.

Admittedly I wonder how people drink alcohol too! But people probably wonder how I eat so much crap it's bloody easy Grin

I've been checked before & told it always on the verge of dehydration but quite frankly I think that's crap!

SneakyGremlins · 27/06/2018 12:37

I have a glass when I wake up, one mid morning, one with lunch, one afternoon, one with dinner and one with evening snack.

Helps that I have meds at those times though Grin

DieAntword · 27/06/2018 12:40

I am very fat, the fatter you are the more water you need, I easily drink 2L of water as well as other drinks (coffee, tea, diet fizzy drinks), some days I am closer to 3L.

clairethewitch70 · 27/06/2018 12:41

Two small mugs of fluid is the maximum I can manage a day. I live in a chronically dehydrated state. I have dysphagia and some days can only manage one mug.

quirkychick · 27/06/2018 12:41

I drink quite a bit of water, but drink little and often throughout the day. Other fluids (not alcohol, obvs Wink) can count too. I have water by my bed at night, so will probably drink when I get up (I'm supposed to sip water after my inhaler, anyway), I will have coffee and then another glass after, which I take vitamins with, before walking dd2 to school. If it's hot, like today, I'll take water on the school run with me, if not I'll have some when I get back... I keep going throughout the day, I nearly always have a glass on the go. I'm quite active, too, so probably drink more because of that.

Corrag · 27/06/2018 12:42

If you're only drinking a pint a day I'm not surprised you're always on the verge of dehydration. I don't think I could function on so little. Do you mean a pint of water plus other drinks (tea, coffee etc). Or a pint of fluid full stop?

Littlechocola · 27/06/2018 12:43

Why don’t you fill it half way for a few days and see how you go?

IdLikeABiscuitPlease · 27/06/2018 12:45

I don't drink any tea or coffee ( never have done).

I have relatively dry foods sounds odd Hmm

I have around a pint full stop.

Some days il finish the day & realise I've had a sip in the morning with my tablets! Shock

Where did you get 2.2 litres?

www.nhs.uk/news/food-and-diet/six-to-eight-glasses-of-water-still-best/

From the NHS website

In climates such as the UK's, we should drink about 1.2 litres (six to eight glasses) of fluid every day to stop us getting dehydrated. In hotter climates, the body needs more than this. We also get some fluid from the food we eat.

Frosty66612 · 27/06/2018 12:46

I drink 3.5 litres per day and feel like crap if I drink any less than 2 litres. It took me a while to be able to get to that level though. I used to get so bloated and would need to pee every 10 mins. Took about 2-3 months for all that to stop. I try not to gulp it all down at once, but just take a few sips every few mins throughout the day. I stop at 9pm and never need to pee during the night

FuckPants · 27/06/2018 12:47

I'm also wondering why you bought such a massive bottle? Why not buy a smaller one and refill it when needed, at least it wouldn't look so off-putting.

mistermagpie · 27/06/2018 12:47

It doesn't need to be just water. I drink at least 3 litres of liquid a day, I once had to do a fluid diary for the doctor and they counted tea, coffee, milk etc etc. Basically everything but alcohol. I only have about a litre of plain water but I'm a 'thirsty' person anyway.

SneakyGremlins · 27/06/2018 12:48

OP, instead of a sip with your meds could you have a glass with your meds?

RevRichardWayneGaryWayne · 27/06/2018 12:48

Do you have an office job? I keep a water bottle on my desk an probably get through at least 2 liters a day without trying.

Not as convenient if you're not sat at a desk - but I think the trick is to just have it always convenient and have a bit every now and then - soon it will become habit.

I'd use a smaller bottle and keep refilling rather than chug from that monster if I were you!
