To wonder how people drink

2.2L a day (the recommended amount)??

Seems quite stupid to ask but for the love of god, I cannot drink more than a pint. I feel like my body is drowning!

I did manage 2L once and my toilet time quadrupled!

I've brought a 2.2L water bottle so I've no excuses but I nearly fainted when I saw the size of it!!

Help me! I think I'm slowly killing myself from the lack of fluids.

Get a water bottle 200ml one then decant water into that this is what i do if i have a urine infection because the thought of drinking a 2litre bottle makes me feel slooshy and I don't like glasses of wate i r put squash in it too

CarrieErbag · 27/06/2018 13:21

This might be the thread to point people in the direction of M&S new range of sparkling water, sugar free.
In Apple and elderflower or cucumber and mint.
Definitely useful for anyone like me who struggles with boring water and so exists much like a gerbil.

DiegoMadonna · 27/06/2018 13:22

How much can you drink in one go comfortably. A 300ml glass of water should be easy for most people. So just make sure you have one when you wake up, one with breakfast, one at 11, one with lunch, one mid-afternoon, one with dinner, and one before bed! Job done!

LoisLanyard · 27/06/2018 13:24

Little and often as others have said - but go by the colour of your wee rather than specific volumes that anyone has told you...some of the volumes that people are mentioning here are alarming. If you feel the need to drink more than 2 litres like one poster is I would honestly recommend you see your GP for testing for diabetes - excessive thirst is one of the warning signs.

Mrsdraper1 · 27/06/2018 13:27

I thought that thirst was the indicator for how much you need to drink.
If you are not thirsty why the need to keep ramming it down?
I rarely drink water as I don't actually like it, I use fruit tea bags (no actual tea in them) and make a big bottle of tea, let it cool and have a glass of that with meals. I drink ordinary tea during the day. Obvs I will drink more when it's hot.
Seriously 2 litres of water on top I would never leave the loo.

Alicatz66 · 27/06/2018 13:30

Have some coconut water ... it's way nicer !! But not 2 litres or you will go bankrupt !

amusedbush · 27/06/2018 13:30

I very rarely feel thirsty - ever. My mum said she had a terrible time getting me to drink anything as a child and I've never changed.

However I drink 3L of water a day because it makes me feel better in myself. I really notice the difference if I drink less.

Juells · 27/06/2018 13:31

My father constantly worried when I was a child because I didn't drink anything - always hated tea, and didn't drink water. He used to call me 'the goat'. I have three or four small (very small) cups of coffee in the morning, and apart from that maybe a glass of water throughout the day. I rarely feel thirsty.

Zaphodsotherhead · 27/06/2018 13:31

If I drink a lot of water during the day I tend to be fine toiletwise - until the night. In this hot weather I've been drinking more and I am up and down a few times every night. Think I'd rather be dehydrated than miss my sleep.

(I never feel thirsty. I am drinking because I 'ought' to).

Birdsgottafly · 27/06/2018 13:32

I drink loads of Water, i find that if I put a bottle in the freezer, I can drink more when it's ice cold. I also drink naturally caffeine free black tea.

The two ltrs a day came from the US and was set for people who were exercising. As said, it's just under in the UK.

When they've done the tests on the Nutrition programmes on the BBC, everyone who started drinking more water, said they noticed an improvement.

Also, as said, look at the colour of your wee. If you get UTI's or bad breath.

""If you feel the need to drink more than 2 litres like one poster is I would honestly recommend you see your GP for testing for diabetes""

I've actually spoken to my Consultant about this and he said that some people need to drink more. It's like sweating, Urine output, energy expenditure etc, we all work slightly differently.

WellAndTrulyCurbed · 27/06/2018 13:37

I replaced all drinks bar one coffee in the morning and one tea at night with water a few months back. Before this I NEVER drank water. I was so surprised at how much I could drink effortlessly by having a bottle at hand at all times. At work. In the car. Next to the stove, the bed, the couch. The constant peeing wasn't fun to start with but much better now and I feel so much better.
I do think a smaller bottle could be key. You can carry one everywhere you go a lot easier and, for me, I really felt I was accomplishing something every time I refilled

MinaPaws · 27/06/2018 13:41

Have a glass of water when you wake up. Another with breakfast. One mid morning. One with lunch. One mid afternoon. One on the commute home/early evening. One with dinner. One before bed. That's 8 glasses - easily enough.

CatLadyToddlerMother · 27/06/2018 13:44

I fill up 500ml bottles you get with pepsi or coke, and put 4 of those into the fridge and just have a bottle whenever I'm thirsty. So i get around 2ls a day.

Ebeneser · 27/06/2018 13:44

I'm not sure how much fluid I drink in a day, I just go off the colour of my pee Smile
I have a 450mL reusable bottle on my desk at work and I'll drink at least one of those a day. I also have a glass of orange juice in the morning with my pills. Then probably several cups of decaff tea throughout the day and maybe a pint of squash at home in the evening if it's hot weather. If I'm doing any exercise I'll drink more than that.

Eliza9917 · 27/06/2018 13:46

What is your skin like OP?

This place is ridiculous. So many posters saying the 2l a day is nonsense and we don't need much water. That is completely irresponsible to tell people. Imo we all need to drink at least 2l a day.

Why do you think there is so much fuss about children and water bottles at school?

BarbaraofSevillle · 27/06/2018 13:48

They also do a still lemon and ginger one, which is my favourite - wish that one came in sparkling.

Sainsburys also have 6 packs of cans of lemon flavoured sparkling water - La Vie.

www.sainsburys.co.uk/shop/gb/groceries/la-vie-lemon-unsweetened-sparkling-spring-water-6x330ml

Really wish drinks like this, ie unsweetened flavoured fizzy waters were more widespread for those of us who want something more interesting than plain water, but don't want artificial sweetners or sugary drinks.

Alwayscommuting · 27/06/2018 13:49

I have a one litre bottle. Before lunch I drink a litre, I have a litre with lunch and in the afternoon I have a third I usually have 500ml with dinner and then I'm off to bed. I think it's habit, I'd really miss it if I stopped.

BarbaraofSevillle · 27/06/2018 13:49

^Imo we all need to drink at least 2l a day.

Experts widely agree that the 2 litres of water a day is a myth, it includes other drinks and water in food, just because something is repeated in blogs and magazines doesn't make it true.

trojanpony · 27/06/2018 13:51

I comfortably do this in a day probably more like 3+ but I work in an arid air conditioned box of a building which sucks hydration out of my body faster than I can put it in!!!!

A better gauge of hydration rather than amount of water is the colour of your pee.

ChelleDawg2020 · 27/06/2018 13:52

I easily drink 2ltr+ per day. You don't want it all at once obviously, but 250ml every hour during the working day is easy enough, plus whatever I feel like when I get home.

To be honest I feel unwell if I drink less than 2ltr.

I don't measure what I drink but go by the colour of my pee - if it's pale then I'm clearly absorbing enough water

It's a wonder that growing up in the 80s we didn't all end up as little dessicated husks in the classroom. Water bottles never featured growing up.

Zaphodsotherhead · 27/06/2018 14:02

When I were a nipper (forty or so years ago) we had to put our hand up to be allowed to go to the drinking fountain out in the playground. We didn't have bottles of water with us all day, and the only other access to a drink was a small plastic glass and jug on the school dinner table.

We didn't even rush home to our mums forcing water down us. You had a glass of squash if you were 'thirsty', but not too close to dinner or it would spoil your appetite. As far as I am aware, none of my schoolfriends dehydrated to death (and we're all still hale and hearty in our late fifties).

What changed?
