To wonder how people drink

2.2L a day (the recommended amount)??

Seems quite stupid to ask but for the love of god, I cannot drink more than a pint. I feel like my body is drowning!

I did manage 2L once and my toilet time quadrupled!

I've brought a 2.2L water bottle so I've no excuses but I nearly fainted when I saw the size of it!!

Help me! I think I'm slowly killing myself from the lack of fluids.

I bought a 1l bottle but it's a free flow rather than a sports top and I find it easier to drink from than a sports top. Your bladder will get used to the increased amount quite quickly!!

Mumthedogsbeensick · 27/06/2018 14:04

I had to drink 2 litres of water a day when I was having chemotherapy and found it hard at first but my body soon adjusted to it. I probably drink anywhere between a litre and a litre and a half now without even having to think about it.

Little and often thats the key.
But also ppl forgetting that yogurts, jelly or ice pops, are also fluids.
that can help to with pushing fluids.

PlatypusPie · 27/06/2018 14:10

My husband's answer to everything is ' you are dehydrated' and I have tended to dismiss him as I think I do get enough fluid from foods, tea and the occasional glass of water when I feel i need it ( more when I exercise, obviously, and in this current hot weather) but I am coming around to his way of thinking. I know I sometimes think I am hungry when there is no logical reason but a glass of water will often remedy that and vague tiredness or fuzz brain can also magically disappear after a drink.

I have just put a large bottle of tapwater with some cucumber in it into the fridge so I have a nice refreshing drink ready.

UserX · 27/06/2018 14:13

Get the plant nanny app, it reminds you to drink and you grow a cute little digital plant as you go.

ijustwannadance · 27/06/2018 14:15

Those prefering fizzy stuff, buy big cheapo bottles of fizzy water, cut up and freeze lemon slices or lime wedges or buy a bag of frozen berries, then just drop a few in your glass. Adds flavour and cools water.

Going to sound daft but I find I drink more if I use a straw. (Paper ones are shite. Get a washable/reusable one)

OverTheHedgeHammy · 27/06/2018 14:17

Don't even TRY to go from barely having a few sips straight to 2.2 litres of water. Complete madness.

Give yourself the aim of finishing a good sized glass (maybe 300 - 500 ml) every day for a few days, then increase your goal by maybe 200 ml. Do that for a few days or even a week. Then increase again, etc.

Yes, when you first increase your water intake you tend to go to the loo more often, but that doesn't last long. That's just your body not used to using the water properly, and your bladder not being able to expand fully. That changes quickly.

I also find sipping slowly through a straw will increase my intake without my even noticing it in. Get yourself a glass with a straw (one of those kitschy glass jars with a lid are actually very good for this!), put the straw in your mouth, and sit and read something funny on screen - MN Classics will occupy you for awhile! You'd be surprised how much you drink!

LemonysSnicket · 27/06/2018 14:17

I'm not sure I have 2L but I guess if it includes tea and coffee I do. I just have it next to me and sip through the day. I finish a pint first thing when I wake up and have another before going to bed.

No wonder you're bloody dehydrated!

otterturk · 27/06/2018 14:18

Christ how do you not feel awful? I must drink about ten pints a day. I feel crappy if I don't.

LeighaJ · 27/06/2018 14:20

My Mother uses an app that reminds her to drink water maybe that would help.

I started drinking water almost exclusively when I was about 14, so I've been in the habit so long that I can easily hit the recommended amount each day.

I use to not like water but now I consider it my favourite drink.

MrsPepperpot79 · 27/06/2018 14:20

I manage between 1200ml and 2.4 litres - I use a 600ml bottle and refill. I find it easier out of the bottle than in a mug though (god knows why!) but I drink tea etc on top of that. And yes, initially I was pissing like the proverbial horse, but it seems to have calmed down now!

NKFell · 27/06/2018 14:26

I have around 3L per day and just sip away and take my water bottle (only a regular sized one that I refill) everywhere with me.

At first you'll pee a lot and might feel bloated sometimes but it does settle down.

Mia1415 · 27/06/2018 14:27

I drink between 2-4 litres a day at least.

If I don't drink at least 2 litres, I quickly get a headache.

I don't have hot drinks so only drink water. I always have a bottle of water with me and drink little and often all the time.

Frosty66612 · 27/06/2018 14:28

It’s amazing how much better I can concentrate when I drink at least 2 litres of water per day. I also sleep better and I’m not so irritable

PasstheStarmix · 27/06/2018 14:28

I drink 2-2.5 litres a day and more if intensely exercising. When I was pregnant I used to drink about 3-3.5l no wonder I was carrying a lot of fluid! I think you need to stop measuring with a bottle op because this will make it feel like a chore. I love drinking water and even that would put me off. Try having glasses here and there and not focusing on it then by end of day add up number of 300 or 500 ml glasses you’ve had. For instance on glass with breakfast, one with lunch and one with dinner is already 1.5litres if 500ml glasses and one before bed puts you at 2/

NKFell · 27/06/2018 14:28

I double checked the size and it's 645ml

PasstheStarmix · 27/06/2018 14:30

It’s my bugbare when I’m really thirsty and ask for glass of water and somebody gives you a tiny little glass one sip and it’s gone, I’ve started asking for a pint of lemonade or water in restaurants now.

evilharpy · 27/06/2018 14:39

I guzzle it all day long. I have a 1 litre carafe thing on my desk at work and usually end up finishing and refilling it by 2pm. At home I just have an Ikea glass that probably holds 500ml and drink at least three or four of them on a work day. I actually crave the stuff which I'm not sure is normal.

I also have a cup of coffee before work, usually one or two more at work and maybe a tea or a fruit tea.

Zaphodsotherhead · 27/06/2018 14:44

I work on a till. If we're busy it's practically impossible to drink on shift. So not everyone has sit-down desk jobs where you can swig away all day, and it's a bit harder to pack those litres in to the remaining hours of the day!

bigsighall · 27/06/2018 14:45

I’ll have at least 3l a day. Even that only sees me pee 3-4 times a day!! One glass a day, I’d be a prune with kidney stones!!!

LuMarie · 27/06/2018 14:49

I easily get through this much, I do sweat a lot of it out at the gym though so I drink a lot. Even without that I can easily knock back half a litre. Yes I do go to the bathroom a lot, but it's better than being dehydrated, plus an excuse to move from my desk guilt free! Once it's part of what you do, you feel rubbish without.

Also agree with pp, keep it up and you'll feel so much better in general. Put a smaller bottle in your bag and carry it with you. Maybe put on some yoga pants and feel chic and superior as you sip from your Evian (filled with tap water) bottle!

I'd agree, maybe get yourself some smaller bottles or containers if you are feeling daunted! Slice of lime or lemon it bored you, ice, make a fuss of it. Or diluting juice to mix it up a bit, I like that too.

shiklah · 27/06/2018 15:25

I drink 2 l every day or I feel tired and shit - also about 12 cups of tea.

I have a pint of water as soon as I wake up, another before I leave the house, one at about 3 and another between 9pm and bedtime. I find it easy and often drink a lot more. I think it's habit. Also I live very rurally and we have delicious spring water.....

Whatshallidonowpeople · 27/06/2018 15:26

I had a glass of water on Monday...

IdLikeABiscuitPlease · 27/06/2018 15:32

Most days my wee is really dark, looks like cider (apologies to the people who drink cider).

Some days, very rarely it's light.

My skin looks normal I guess, I wonder how it would look if I drank 2L a day for a week
