AIBU to want the 'midi' length trend to bugger off?

So many gorgeous dresses ruined by the fact that they stop mid-calf. I can't be arsed to wear towering heels to compensate. Wharever happened to good old fashioned 'just above the knee'?

I have got it so wrong this week.

Yesterday just above the knee - the dress was old and jersey and the hem kept kind of rolling up. Spent the day tugging it down and feeling like an arse.

Today I wore a midi dress. I am short and round and I wore it with trainers. All day long I felt swamped but with my puffy ankles on show. I spent the whole day comfortable but looking like a flump.

Tomorrow it's the just below the knee sun dress so at last I will not feel like an arse or a flump. I have a feeling that's too right on my tits though.......

SmilingButClueless · 26/06/2018 21:40

Until someone makes a maxi dress that actually fits an average height woman who doesn’t want to wear towering heels, I think I’ll stick with midi.

MsJinglyJones · 26/06/2018 21:41

I like maxis, and just on/below the knee also works on me. But midis make me look really weird, like it's meant to be a longer length but I've had a growth spurt or picked the wrong size. I look somehow like I'm wearing the wrong clothes.

And as a PP said I think of midi length as innately uncool - it's what my mum would wear when I was a teenager in leggings and a mini.

NationalEspresso · 26/06/2018 21:41

As a total short arse I love midi length. I can finally find a 'maxi' dress or skirt that doesn't drag on the ground but covers my cankles. Blush

UrgentScurryfunge · 26/06/2018 21:41

Midi is horrifically frumpy. I'm 5ft 2 with well developed calf muscles, so they get cut off at the broadest part. It has a look that suggests that I've either grown out of maxi length or failed to grow into mini. Maxi is fine if I don't fall over it. Mini is fine at maximising the length and shape my legs have. Midi just looks stumpy.

bumblingbovine49 · 26/06/2018 21:42

I love midi and used to wear them even when they bwere considered frumpy as my thighs and knees are absolutely terrible. I only wear skirts that cover my knees. I quite like pencil jersey skirts that finish just below the knee though the bottom bit of my legs aren't great either but I am ok with those on show (just)

ShatnersBassoon · 26/06/2018 21:43

I like midi too, even though I'm short. Comfortable and practical, and they hide my varicose veins Grin

GallicosCats · 26/06/2018 21:45

I love it as a petite size because I can buy midi and means I finally get a me size maxi dress!!

Snap! Oh BTW, who's selling them right now? I want one! Grin

seven201 · 26/06/2018 21:45

I hate midis too! I have short legs. Just above or on the knee suits me best.

IGiorni · 26/06/2018 21:47

I love midi length dresses and skirts. I’m fairly slim but have chunky thighs and like them covered up without being swamped by a maxi dress. Just above the knee looks horribly frumpy on me, I look a lot younger than I am and it makes me look like I’m playing at being a grown up in something that’s too big for me.

chickedychicked · 26/06/2018 21:47

I love midis as I'm 5 foot 4 so they look like what a maxi is supposed to look like on me!

slightlyglittermaned · 26/06/2018 21:48

Midi is finally in fashion?

Anyone selling midi dresses with pockets?

SirVixofVixHall · 26/06/2018 21:48

I love a midi, by which I mean a true midi in the 70s sense, when it first came in and meant mid-way between knee and ankle, so not on the widest part of the leg at all. I look dire in just-above-the-knee. Even when I was thin it didn’t work with my legs. Now I’m chubbier it is gruesome.

GahWhatever · 26/06/2018 21:50

My knees will never be witnessed again except by those who love (and forgive) me. YABU.

Look for different styles if you prefer a mini (you slim confident freak you....) Grin

lololove · 26/06/2018 21:51

Love Midi (and maxi!). 5ft 9 but the height is all in my body, I have little titchy legs so a midi allows me to actually 'wear' a dress (ditto maxi)

The other types of dresses I wear as 'tops/tunics' because they finish essentially mid thigh or just under my bum

SerenDippitty · 26/06/2018 21:52

YANBU. Midi just looks frumpish on me. I have thick ankles. Knee or above looks much better. And don’t get me started on ankle grazer trousers - ridiculous trend.

Andylion · 26/06/2018 21:52

I look dumpy in any length other than just above the knee.

Ohmydayslove · 26/06/2018 21:52

Over 50 here and hell will freeze over before I buy s midi frump. Wink sgree totally op. Above knee maxi or trousers.

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 26/06/2018 21:53

I'm tall with great legs and I love a midi.

Just above the knee = holiday rep. Just below the knee = mother of the bride.

Fluffyears · 26/06/2018 21:56

They always end at the widest part of my calf so make my legs look really chunky. I love maxi and knee length but being 5’9” it’s hard to get a decent knee length or maxi and i’m Too tall for standard but too short for tall ranges.

OlennasWimple · 26/06/2018 22:00

I used to love them, but now I'm a bit older, they just look frumpy on me

wheezing · 26/06/2018 22:06

But if is embarrassing when you’re wearing a midi as a maxi and you pass by a woman of normal height wearing the same skirt...

ImogenTubbs · 26/06/2018 22:10

I love midis. I'm 6ft tall and 40 and they are the perfect balance for me. I almost never wear above the knee now and although I love maxi skirts they are not hugely practical for day to day.

I just recently bought this from M&S: https://www.marksandspencer.com/cotton-blend-full-midi-skirt/p/p60167096?image=SD011T594020TTJPXXEC90&color=TEALGREEN&prevPage=srp&pdpredirect

I love it! I don't care how old and frumpy that makes me sound. Grin

Lovemyhubby · 26/06/2018 22:10

I know what you mean. I love above the knee skirts and dresses. I’m short but one of my best features is my shapely legs, so I like to show them off!
