Kind of wish ours was. It's meant to be really hot this week and it will be at 1.30pm. Poor kids.

suyrely your kids have hats, sunscreen and water...?

LovelyBath77 · 26/06/2018 14:36

Yep.

It’s not that hot and they don’t run very long distances, do they?

Butterymuffin · 26/06/2018 14:37

001 I imagine they do, but even so, would you want to run around in this heat? I don't.

00100001 · 26/06/2018 14:38

They'll be just fine.

LovelyBath77 · 26/06/2018 14:38

It is scorching here.

My Ds has had a 1.5 k cross country event cancelled due to heat.

00100001 · 26/06/2018 14:39

there's difference between 1.5k cross country and a 60m dash....?

thetigerthatcamefortea · 26/06/2018 14:39

It’s in the region of 27 degrees here. Our sports day was changed last minute from the afternoon to 9am.
I’m sure it caused chaos with parents but I think it was a sensible idea!

00100001 · 26/06/2018 14:39

We have prep-school sports day happening right now - they're fine!

MagicNumberyThings · 26/06/2018 14:43

I used to let my dd stay home on sports day if it was this hot (29 here). It's ok in the shade but running around in the full sun makes some folks feel sick.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 26/06/2018 14:43

How old OP? I have to be honest I wouldn’t really want DS running around in the midday sun at the moment and hes six. It’s not just the sports it’s the waiting around with no shade, suncream been on since 8am so inevitably not still fully covered. It’s 28 degrees here and at that temperature on holiday we’dbe in the shade. First thing in the morning ok, late afternoon ok but midday sun isn’t ideal.

NancyDonahue · 26/06/2018 14:44

Ours was on a scorching day last year but as the field has a lot of trees the children could sit in the shade unless they were doing a race. They had water bottles with them and they all got an ice lolly at the end. The poor parents sweltered though as there was not enough shade for us too!

Heratnumber7 · 26/06/2018 14:45

If we ever have another war, I hope it's not during a sunny spell!!

LovelyBath77 · 26/06/2018 14:45

There's no shade. I think it is the older ones though, KS2. Maybe they can do races involving water..

BarbarianMum · 26/06/2018 14:48

If there's shade to sit in then I think its fine for them to run in the sun/heat. But at our school there isn't.

feral · 26/06/2018 14:48

Ours has been reduced from full day to 2 hours 9-11 so kids not exposed to too much sun. They'll be under gazebo when not competing.

Bombaybunty · 26/06/2018 14:52

My DS is on a Duke of Edinburgh hike.
I'm a bit concerned about him, hopefully he'll have enough water.

brizzledrizzle · 26/06/2018 14:52

there's difference between 1.5k cross country and a 60m dash....?*

Of course there is, however you've got children sitting outside on the field for a long time and often with no shade unless the school have a load of gazebos that they can all sit under. Nobody wants to win a prize for the best lobster impression on sports day do they?

LovelyBath77 · 26/06/2018 14:53

9-11 would be fine but 1.30. no shade for parents either.

In junior school ds's Sports Day involved numerous track and field events including 100M, 100m hurdles, 400m, long jump, high jump, shot put and 4x100 relay. Everyone competed in every event. In infants there were fewer races but there was no shade at all on the infants field and the event lasted a couple of hours so I think they should be cancelled in extreme heat.

LovelyBath77 · 26/06/2018 14:53

isn't just one dash, there are lots of races, it goes on for ages!

OP posts:
LovelyBath77 · 26/06/2018 14:55

usually egg and spoon, three legged race, sack race, relay race, parents race...it goes on. usually lovely bit not in this heat!
