AIBU to think there are no nice looking walking sandals?!

I’ve got a weekend away coming up next month which will involve a fair bit of hiking. Wanted to invest in some comfy walking sandals but cannot find any that don’t look hideous and clumpy.
Am i right in thinking there is no such thing as lovely walking sandals?
I have salt waters and I know lots of people think they’re ugly - so I’m not against a bit of granny retro sandal but am not a fan of the velcro strap variety that I keep coming across.
Maybe I should go away and invent some!

I think Teva does some nice sandals www.teva.co.uk/1003434.html?dwvar_1003434_color=BRN#start=2&cgid=women-sandals

And they are very hardwearing .

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 25/06/2018 18:12

I’ve never found any and could really do with some. They are all (at least the ones I’ve seen) disgusting.

Birdsgottafly · 25/06/2018 18:15

I've given up looking and wear Sketchers, at least they are breathable.

bettycat81 · 25/06/2018 18:16

Hi-tec waimea falls sandals are fab.

ShinyMe · 25/06/2018 18:18

I have several pairs of Tevas and I love them.

What do you mean by hiking? Like walking round a city and museums, or walking outdoors up mountains and on coastal paths and so on? Because if you're outside on rough ground, then not one person will care what your sandals look like - it's far more important that your feet are supported and comfy.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 25/06/2018 18:22

Have a look at Teva Kayenta. I’ve wore them for 18 miles at the weekend, lovely comfy sandals that look good IMO.

MereDintofPandiculation · 25/06/2018 18:22

Walking sandals need a thick comfy sole with good grip, sensible straps so your little toe doesn't stick out of the hole between two straps, a plethora of fastenings so you can fit it exactly to your foot with no chance of the sandals slipping or rubbing you anywhere ... yeah, they're going to look clumpy.

lhastingsmua · 25/06/2018 18:22

I know it’s hot but I wouldn’t have thought sandals are the best choice for hiking?

I like Birkenstocks, they’re quite comfortable for a causal walk. Not sure I’d wear them hiking through

I second the Teva suggestion, bought a pair a few weeks ago. Clarks ones are hideous and over priced. good luck.

P3onyPenny · 25/06/2018 18:28

Keen Whispers have quite a few colours.

SergeantCuff · 25/06/2018 19:38

Another teva vote here. I'd rather have comfy feet on a hike and put nice sandals on afterwards Grin

victoryvee · 25/06/2018 20:37

Depends what you're doing, I've got (hideous) walking sandals but if you're doing rough terrain you need boots. No sandal is supportive enough and I keep catching my toes on rocks.

lljkk · 25/06/2018 20:47

I walk a lot in these sort (lock lace fasten). Soft beige merrells are also ok for not too hot & dry weather.

The sort of sandal MNers gush about as "pretty" I find repulsive b/c obviously so uselessly flimsy and impractical. Don't get me started about the ugly horrors that are high heels (which are almost inevitably just another sort of sandal). Beauty is in eye of beholder.

Teva are great sandals but they don't make wide widths. Look at Waldläufer. I have extra-wide feet but Waldläufer's H-width sandals fit me well even though their H-width enclosed shoes don't, and they're very comfy and longlasting. No blistered feet here. Smile

Waldläufer's product naming policy is confusing with several different shoes carrying the same name, which is the name of the last the shoes are made on. This way you can tell the width of the sandals, running from G up to M, just by looking at the name of the shoe. These Hanni sandals are my current everyday favourite.

I have no connection with the company, just awkward feet.

KinkyAfro · 25/06/2018 21:19

I just bought these, they are Fitflops and are like walking on air

I must admit, those last sandals tick my fugly box.
& That heel would make my plantar fascitis scream.
But there you are... beauty in eye of beholder.

specialsubject · 25/06/2018 21:28

feet are not that pretty, although the ugliest look is when they are twisted into giant heels. the sulky face that results isnt good either.

get some fit for purpose shoes to avoid being a laughing stock and a nuisance to your holiday companions.

Sorry, pressed post accidentally whilst trying to remember how to do a hyperlink (remind me someone please!) and also meant to include a pic

@lljkk... I like those sandals with the covered toes you pictured... Please can you tell me what make they are? Thank you!

@mmmgoats... Thank you for starting this thread, I'm hunting too!

lljkk · 25/06/2018 22:19

Apparently that make is Keen, Missus, (Keen seems to be one of the quality versions). I see that style everywhere. Sports Direct is where I bought my first pair, for about £20.

HyacinthsBucket70 · 25/06/2018 22:23

I've just bought these OP

www.keenfootwear.com/en-gb/p/W-ANA-CORTEZ-T-STRAP.html?dwvar_W-ANA-CORTEZ-T-STRAP_color=1018297&cgid=womens_footwear_sandals

and can honestly say they are the comfiest pair of sandals I've ever owned. Really supportive, great sole and don't look too bad on either.

VetOnCall · 25/06/2018 22:23

I have Teva Tirras in black and in dark blue and I like the way they look. I live in outdoorsy/sporty clothes though. They're also very comfortable and can be worn in water etc. I've done long hikes in mine in the UK and abroad.

MotherofTerriers · 25/06/2018 22:24

Another vote for earth spirit here. Very comfy, supportive, no blisters
