We're going to look like knobs aren't we?

Yesterday we were extremely lucky and won a small electric remote controlled ride in car for toddler dd. She's obsessed with it, we're ecstatic, truly an awesome prize. But we gave nowhere to drive it at home.

Are we going to look like complete knobs driving our kid around in her own convertible in public or AIBU to already be internally cringing (And slightly cracking up) at the image?

My Ex brought home one of these. DS loved it.

Only one issue..

We lived in on the 4th floor of a building with no operational lift...

Fenwickdream · 22/06/2018 12:39

Ours blared out some form of German trance music!? That got them all looking 🙈 (Cheaper, knock off version from amazon)

Myotherusernameisbest · 22/06/2018 12:40

Mine would have loved those! She'll have great fun in it. You will look a bit knob like though I'm afraid, although how much depends on where you live probably! You'll just have to suck it up and get on with it. Hold your head up high, op! And try and refrain from telling everyone who looks over that 'we didn't buy it, we won it', as I probably would do Blush

Jaxhog · 22/06/2018 12:42

Who cares anyway? Your DD will be enjoying herself, and that's what matters.

Allthewaves · 22/06/2018 12:47

If you won it from charity - stick their stickers on the side

sparepantsandtoothbrush · 22/06/2018 12:54

Lol at remote control cars being part of the country's obesity problem. I doubt the OP will still be her DD around in it for more than a few weeks before she gets bored of it. And if they're at the park I imagine the DD will also like to run around and play.

Some people do like to suck the joy out of everything

Wuss2018 · 22/06/2018 12:58

Seriously I can't even believe this is an issue. Is that not what they are designed for going from a-b. It's fun "come on verity you can drive to the park today" .

CookPassBabtridge · 22/06/2018 13:03

People who think you look like knobs for doing that, are knobs. They are so cool!

GrannyGrissle · 22/06/2018 13:06

They are utterly hideous contraptions but i would laugh with not at you! She'll tire of it soon enough then you can get it on Ebay Grin

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 22/06/2018 13:06

I think people make judgement because that kind of car is generally loved by chavs, and it's only a certain kids of kids you will see driving them around.

Chanelprincess · 22/06/2018 13:12

Awesome! I love them - it always make me smile when I see children enjoying them. No one will think you're knobs unless you live in an area full of nasty, envious judgemental assholes and I'm sure you don't care one bit what they think.

Lalliella · 22/06/2018 13:15

Congratulation! How exciting for DD! Anyone who thinks you’re knobs is a knob themselves!

BornInALighthouse · 22/06/2018 13:19

Nah you'll be fine. There was a boy with a convertible round here (flats with no good paving) on the pavement and it was awfully cute. Especially when his little brother was able to get in too and the older one kind of took them for a drive, obviously parent was pretty close behind. My DD asked for one for ages after.

greendale17 · 22/06/2018 13:21

Of course you won't look like knobs. Who thinks like that? Hmm

^This

DesperateHouseknife · 22/06/2018 13:28

You need to follow the code of conduct for owners of childrens' ride on remote controlled cars:

Drive to the park with your ridiculous remote control child car wedged into the boot, pilot Shaznay up and down a path a couple of times whilst you swill from a can of white lightning, smoke a couple of roll ups, play loud tinny music on your phone and eat doughnuts, leave the litter on the bench where you have been sitting, load the contraption back into the car and drive home before ordering takeaway and eating a couple of tubs of Ben and Jerry's.

crispysausagerolls · 22/06/2018 13:42

I think this sounds bloody amazing and she will have a whale of a time in the park with it! If I saw someone driving one of those I would think nothing of it, except maybe “that little girl is having such a wonderful time, how lovely!”

Member745520 · 22/06/2018 13:53

Nah! Go for it! I recently saw a very small boy excitedly driving one of those along the path outside my back gate and my only thought was wow he's got excellent control... then realised his safety was literally in the hands of his dad who walked behind working the remote Grin

pigsDOfly · 22/06/2018 13:54

The first time I saw one of those I said to the father 'I want one of those it looks like such fun', because it does.

Did I think he was a knob? No I didn't. His little boy was loving his car and all I could see was a happy picture.

Why on earth would you think you'll lot like a knob?

specialsubject · 22/06/2018 14:05

park, yes, definitely, enjoy!

pavement - no. No wheels on the pavement except pushchairs and wheelchairs, and she risks being flattened by someone reversing out of their drive.

ProperLavs · 22/06/2018 14:13

They go about three foot before they need charging and IME are always getting stuck!
Enjoy it though and take no notice of anyone judging. You could always tape a sign to the bonnet saying' this was a prize, we are not knobs'

WeAllHaveWings · 22/06/2018 14:30

I wouldn't think you were knobs, but I really dislike those cars and would have sold it before ds even saw it and bought something more practical.

The few I have seen are noisy, I don't mind noise, love to hear children playing/shouting/screaming at the park, but the sound of an electric car motor is out of place and annoying as fuck. Thankfully there isn't many around our way.

You will need to make sure the car doesn't hurt other children that might be attracted to it, watch out for little toes as they are quite heavy, and make sure you can steer and keep out of the way of prams, dogs, old people, etc. Really doesn't sound like fun in a potentially busy park.

Also, are they legally allowed in parks? I'm sure I can remember seeing a sign in a toy store saying they can only be used on private land with owners permission. Probably rarely enforced, but worth knowing.

FreddyFasbear · 22/06/2018 15:04

My DD has a bright pink VW camper version of these. It’s great fun! She wears her pink sunglasses and we go into the town centre or up to granny on it! People respond positively OP, don’t worry 😉. It’s a cool toy and it attracts attention because it’s adorable to see a kid driving

Exploring · 22/06/2018 15:17

Get L plates for it 😁

EnidButton · 22/06/2018 15:19

It's a child's toy. Really weird if anyone thinks it's knobbish.

She'll be the coolest kid on the block. Get her some little sunglasses. 😎Grin

We're going to look like knobs aren't we?
MatildaLovesBooks · 22/06/2018 15:24

Take her out in her car!! You’ve won it, you love it, use it and don’t care what other people think. Life’s too short.
