We're going to look like knobs aren't we?

Yesterday we were extremely lucky and won a small electric remote controlled ride in car for toddler dd. She's obsessed with it, we're ecstatic, truly an awesome prize. But we gave nowhere to drive it at home.

Are we going to look like complete knobs driving our kid around in her own convertible in public or AIBU to already be internally cringing (And slightly cracking up) at the image?

There is a mum who drives her toddler DD up and down my cul-de-sac of an evening. My DD was absolutely entranced by it!

WorraLiberty · 22/06/2018 10:22

There are tons of these around, no-one will look knob-like!

I just wish I could fit in one Grin

MissP103 · 22/06/2018 10:45

I didnt know this was a knob like thing. Ds got one for his 1st birthday, it's also remote controlled so we used it then. Now he can use it himself under supervision. We have a huge garden where he drives around and loves it.

spiderlight · 22/06/2018 10:52

We had a blue Mini and DS absolutely loved it. We have a playing field right behind the house, fortunately, so he was able to trundle round to his heart's content. He spent must of his time doing three-point turns on the path and setting up parking spaces with cones and trying to drive into them perfectly, but then he's a bit of a quirky one! It didn't have enough charge to get very far so we never took it round the streets for fear of having to drag it home (it weighted about twelve tons). It's been passed on to a friend's younger kids now and is still going strong.

I’ve seen kids in those sort of cars I think it’s cute and they look so happy in the car.

DP desperately wants to buy one for DD. Luckily we have no room for one so he can’t. Personally I can’t justify the expense.

ShapelyBingoWing · 22/06/2018 10:59

The only way you'll look like a knob is if instead of taking her to a park, you have her repeatedly drive it up and down the street in front of your neighbours houses until the battery runs out, as a set of parents on my street do with their child. The kid is cute as anything and having a whale of a time but that tinny whirring noise is enough to drive anyone barking mad.

There's also a blind bend driving onto our street and they let her drive it in the road, but that's a whole other thread!

silkpyjamasallday · 22/06/2018 11:03

I was always desperate for one of those cars as a child, but never got one. DP vetoed getting one for DD for her birthday as he said we would look like knobs using it in the park, I might show him this thread and get one anyway! I had my eye on a miniature Mercedes G wagon Grin

SlothSlothSloth · 22/06/2018 11:06

I saw a man with his son in one of these in the park the other day. I didn’t think the man looked like a knob; I just thought “Oh my, that must have been very expensive!”

She’s a lucky girl indeed!

Loonoon · 22/06/2018 11:08

You won’t look like knobs at all but parents of a very lucky, happy little girl.

mangomama91 · 22/06/2018 11:09

Nah I don't think so
Ive seen a few time children with their parents driving down the path to the park with these haha
I always wanted one when I was younger!!!

2blueshoes · 22/06/2018 11:09

Congratulations!

You'll be fine. Your DD is going to feel great, you need to give her some sunglasses to wear. to complete her swag look though.

Sassypants82 · 22/06/2018 11:13

My DS got one of these for his 3rd birthday. He adores it. It plays music & he turns it up to the loudest. He is very good at letting others have a go in the park. I am usually red faced following behind him though!

TheStoic · 22/06/2018 11:20

I saw something similar recently and it absolutely made my day, I literally laughed out loud. I bet I wasn’t the only one...her joy was infectious. Grin

Jux · 22/06/2018 11:34

Oh lovely! She'll have so much fun!!

beltanewalk · 22/06/2018 11:37

I saw a little guy cute as a button driving one of those the other day. I think there was a mass "ahhhhh" and a lot of longing looks from other kids.

KanyeWesticle · 22/06/2018 11:39

Park not pavement. But let her enjoy it!

PositivelyPERF · 22/06/2018 11:45

I remember being so jealous of a local child that had a little metal car with pedals. old than old 👵🏻

mplINsTA · 22/06/2018 11:49

omg spider you have a fledgling driving instructor on your hands!

OP, you'll look a bit like a knob. Sorry. The indignities of parenting.

TheClitterati · 22/06/2018 11:53

My DC would be totes jealous of your DC.

I would be inwardly thinking "knobs" Grin

UrsulaPandress · 22/06/2018 12:04

Knob away. Who cares.

But probably best not to take it to a bridlepath where it might seriously scare the horses. (Have seen someone do this).

Noqont · 22/06/2018 12:06

Yeah you will. But I wouldn't worry about it. Do it anyway.

FlaviaAlbia · 22/06/2018 12:09

I'd sell it and then someone else can look a knob and pay you for the privilege Grin

DesperateHouseknife · 22/06/2018 12:14

You will look like a knob.

Kids should be running around in parks, not be being driven around in remote control cars by their parents. You'll be judged as a bad parent raising a lazy child and this will be reinforced and magnified if you are even slightly overweight yourselves.

Toys such as these are viewed in the same category as mini-motorbikes roaring around waste-ground and council estates.

On the other hand, the child will enjoy themselves, so let her have her fun this summer and then sell it on eBay to someone less socially conscious.

I don't think the OP is expecting her DD never to walk again and be driven to secondary school in said knob-mobile so I think you can unclench a bit DesperateHouseknfe

LadyOdd · 22/06/2018 12:31

Defo take it out there’s loads of kids in my area on them, even tractors which makes me laugh. The only knob was my old upstairs neighbor who let her kids do it inside!
