Who’s right

So my dad lives in a granny annex attached to my house. A few days ago he babysat my son (age 6) on a school night so hubby and I could go out. We got back late but not ridiculous around 9.30. At 9.30 I was thinking have a cup of tea then head to bed but was met with ‘*** had an accident in his school trousers I’ve left them by the washing machine with the others’

As it happens I had put him in the clean trousers that morning meaning this left him without any trousers.

I said to my dad that it would have been helpful if he had just put them in the wash since he now had no trousers for school the next day. Dad’s now annoyed I said that. I’m not particularly happy I had to stay up later than expected after a long busy day. (1:25 wash cycle)

Who is right?

As a side note the granny annex and main house share a laundry room and he is perfectly capable of using the machine. I often can’t do my laundry because his is in there.

Your dad is right. He agreed to babysit, not do your washing. How was he meant to know you had no spares? And you could surely have picked a shorter wash cycle if you were eager to go to bed.

Heratnumber7 · 21/06/2018 11:58

You could have hand washed and rinsed them out. It didn't need a 1.25hr wash cycle for a bit of wee.

CheeseyToast · 21/06/2018 11:59

Your dad is right.

Not your dad’s responsibility

CrazyOldBagLady · 21/06/2018 12:00

I don’t think it’s fair to expect your Dad to know the state of play regarding your sons spare school trousers. He gave you presumably free childcare which was really good of him and you could have used a quick wash cycle or washed them through in the sink. I think you are in the wrong here.

Racecardriver · 21/06/2018 12:00

Your dad is right. It would have been nice and thoughtful if he did that but it us unreasonable to expect him to do that let alone tell him off for not doing it.

Ghanagirl · 21/06/2018 12:01

Dad

ReservoirDogs · 21/06/2018 12:01

Your Dad is right, It was only 9.30. Does your machine not have a quick wash setting? Even the other setting meant it was finished before 11pm so plenty of time to dry overnight.

Even if it doesn't how was he supposed to know that there were no other pairs of clean trousers?

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 21/06/2018 12:04

You need a new washer if it hasn't got a quick

wash!

thecatsthecats · 21/06/2018 12:07

Don't you have a quick wash cycle? I wash cat vomit off blankets no problem on that - a bit of wee no problem!

Great for a small number of items.

CluedoAddict · 21/06/2018 12:07

Your child, your responsibility.

liz70 · 21/06/2018 12:07

You need more school trousers.

Flowerpotbicycle · 21/06/2018 12:12

Your dad is right. Surely you have a quick was option? Most machines have one under 45 mins

Flowerpotbicycle · 21/06/2018 12:12

*quick wash

MadMags · 21/06/2018 12:20

Your dad.

Clubcuts · 21/06/2018 12:23

You need spare trousers!

Mulberry72 · 21/06/2018 12:23

Your Dad.

SluttyButty · 21/06/2018 12:25

If that happened here I wouldn't expect one of my parents to do the washing although my mum probably would. I'd just bung it on a 14 minute freshen up wash and hang overnight to dry.

Who'd do an hour and twenty five minute wash for a pair of trousers Confused

SoyDora · 21/06/2018 12:25

Your dad didn’t know you didn’t have spare trousers. It’s not his responsibility to sort your laundry. I’d never put just one item on a wash cycle, I’d wait until their was a full load.
He is right.

MidniteScribbler · 21/06/2018 12:26

Team Dad.

AForegoneConclusion · 21/06/2018 12:27

Your Dad of course. He isn't a bloody mind reader! How would he know you had no other trousers clean.

AnneLovesGilbert · 21/06/2018 12:28

Your dad is right.
You need more trousers.
You could have washed them by hand.

RebootYourEngine · 21/06/2018 12:32

Why did you put them in to wash for so long? I think your dad is right.

WhateverHappenedToMe · 21/06/2018 12:36

Why didn't your child change out of his school trousers when he got home from school?

Your Dad is right.
