Who’s right

So my dad lives in a granny annex attached to my house. A few days ago he babysat my son (age 6) on a school night so hubby and I could go out. We got back late but not ridiculous around 9.30. At 9.30 I was thinking have a cup of tea then head to bed but was met with ‘*** had an accident in his school trousers I’ve left them by the washing machine with the others’

As it happens I had put him in the clean trousers that morning meaning this left him without any trousers.

I said to my dad that it would have been helpful if he had just put them in the wash since he now had no trousers for school the next day. Dad’s now annoyed I said that. I’m not particularly happy I had to stay up later than expected after a long busy day. (1:25 wash cycle)

Who is right?

As a side note the granny annex and main house share a laundry room and he is perfectly capable of using the machine. I often can’t do my laundry because his is in there.

Another in Team Dad

AornisHades · 21/06/2018 17:48

I wouldn't put a wash on for one pair of trousers, so I think your dad was right.
At least he told you. It would have been worse to find out in the morning.

Whatshallidonowpeople · 21/06/2018 17:50

Why is your son still in his school trousers after school and why dont you wash them more often so he has spares?

hungryhippie · 21/06/2018 17:51

Dad was right. YABU

ToffeeUp · 21/06/2018 17:59

Is there a reason why your husband couldn't have sorted it?

Your dad probably thought it was wasteful just to wash one pair of trousers and wasn't to know your son didn't have any clean ones.

happypoobum · 21/06/2018 18:02

Your dad is right. I wouldn't dream of putting a wash on for one pair of trousers and how was he to know you had none spare?

SugarIsAmazing · 21/06/2018 18:13

I'm on your dad's team!

Sunflowers79 · 21/06/2018 18:18

Team Dad!

TheDowagerCuntess · 21/06/2018 18:28

I think you've kind of got the message, OP, but no-one's going to put one pair of trousers in for an hour and a half's wash cycle.

Hand washing in a fraction of that time would've solved the problem.

PurpleRobe · 21/06/2018 18:32

Where are his spare pair? Also in the wash?

Coolaschmoola · 21/06/2018 18:40

He put them by the machine "with the others" - so he did exactly what YOU had already done and he's wrong?!

If you'd washed the others instead of leaving them by the machine you would have had clean ones.

You are annoyed with the wrong person. You knew you already had unwashed trousers and were on the last pair with a six year old yet you didn't do the washing. You gambled and lost - noone else's fault.

Isleepinahedgefund · 21/06/2018 18:42

Your dad is right, YABU. At least he told you, imagine if you’d only realised in the morning.

TheOriginalSource · 21/06/2018 18:43

YADBU not his responsibility. If I was him I'd be pissed that I'd given up my evening to babysit and then you moaned at me for not dealing with your children's pants. I wouldn't be rushing to help you again.

I'd never expect anyone else to deal with my kids (or my) laundry.

Also why do you only have 2 pairs of pants for a 6 year old boy? I know tshirts can be expensive if they need to be logo ones but school pants are 2 for £6 in supermarkets. Also I've never managed to get DS to wear a pair of Pants for more than a day. They are always covered in mud, food and goodness knows what else.

CremeBrulee · 21/06/2018 18:48

Your Dad is right. Buy more school trousers, 2 pairs is not enough!

FoodGloriousFud · 21/06/2018 18:48

Unanimous verdict! YABVU!

GeorgeTheHippo · 21/06/2018 19:11

Put him in the other pair if they haven't been weed in

Clubcuts · 22/06/2018 05:46

I don't think OP is coming back!

RideSallyRide76 · 22/06/2018 06:10

Yep dad is right, your responsibility I'm afraid and one of the more shitty part of being a parent.
