Anyone else wish sex was not so graphic on TV?

I miss the old Hollywood films where they would kiss and then just fade out. You knew what was going to happen, but didn't see it. Now we see totally simulated sex. And I wish we didn't.

Until a few years ago i would not have agreed with you.

Now we have a collection of teens/early 20 something DDs and their boyfriends sitting with us in the evenings watching TV i agree! GrinHmm

soapboxqueen · 19/06/2018 19:15

I'm in agreement with you. Very very occasionally a sex scene can add to the story line but mostly it's about seeing boobs and naked women.

I swear some shows have a boob count.

The other day I literally exclaimed to dh 'Can we not watch anything without somebody' s bloody boobs in it! '

crunchymint · 19/06/2018 19:18

Yes I agree that there are almost obligatory sex scenes and shower scenes. The amount of times I have seen a woman answering a phone or door straight from the shower, when there is no reason as far as the story goes for her to be in the shower.

We've been watching The Walking Dead recently and noticed how unusual it is, in that there's no titillation in it.

NoelHeadbands · 19/06/2018 19:22

Lots of death and gore obvs, but no tits and arse!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 19/06/2018 19:22

An interesting point about TWD...

What is it about the nudity and sex that bothers you? Just that you'd rather not see another naked woman?

crunchymint · 19/06/2018 19:23

It is there for titillation. I don't need to see soft porn on TV. And I feel sorry for the young actresses who have to bare all if they want to get roles.

Sex scenes in tv and in movies are hideous. So fake and cringey. I agree with you completely.

MrsPreston11 · 19/06/2018 19:24

I clearly don’t watch the right TV shows.

Where’s all the sex?

soapboxqueen · 19/06/2018 19:28

Anchor for me it is the fact that it is totally unnecessary. Having the lead actress or any other actress naked often adds nothing to the story other than 'booooobs!' and 'we're are so edgy there are naked women on the set'. I'm just utterly bored of it.

Donthugmeimscared · 19/06/2018 19:31

I am a bit of a prude and have been known to switch things off because of the sex scenes. I'm pretty limited these days for things to watch.

crunchymint · 19/06/2018 19:31

*Preston_ I watch mainly dramas and thrillers, they are commonplace.

RedForFilth · 19/06/2018 19:37

Well on the one hand I'm bisexual and find women to be the more attractive sex Grin But on a serious note I find it ridiculous most of the time as it adds nothing, just makes it almost awkward I think and I'm no prude!

birdonawire1 · 19/06/2018 19:56

Presumably you don’t watch Game of Thrones? Grin

crunchymint · 19/06/2018 20:01

No I don't. Have been warned about it.

PositiveVibez · 19/06/2018 20:04

Gratuitous sex scenes add absolutely nothing to films/TV shows.

Totally unnecessary.

user2085372673 · 19/06/2018 20:05

Me too. I just want to fast forward them. They addnothing to the storyline and I have to sit through them feeling like a total prude at 35.

Twilight456 · 19/06/2018 20:07

Totally agree! Can't watch most programmes with my family its too awkward! Most of the time it doesn't add anything to the show, makes me cringe.

ForalltheSaints · 19/06/2018 20:11

I agree. Often also so unrealistic, men keeping boxer shorts on, women underwear, and no condoms.

It's gratuitous, unnecessary and exploitative. I saw a recent film with Reese Witherspoon in it the other day, and for no relevant reason she was in the bathroom naked. Full bum and boob exposure. It wasn't even a sex scene and added nothing to the story.
I just thought the producers thought: "Hey, I fancy a bit of naked RW".

Game of thrones did have a few willies in it, but most of the nudity was female; and most (or at least many) female characters were the victims of sexual violence.Hmm

GrandTheftWalrus · 19/06/2018 20:13

Westworld season 1 is just porn

Sallystyle · 19/06/2018 20:15

YANBU

There is no need for it. Random boobs and sex are scattered in TV now just for the sake of it.

IcedPurple · 19/06/2018 20:27

Sorry but.... where is all this random explicit sex?

Other than a few shows like GOT - which are known for it - I'm honestly not seeing it. Wouldn't mind a few sex scenes on, say, Poldark however....

picklemepopcorn · 20/06/2018 06:21

Glad it isn't just me! Most programmes seem to luxuriate in violence and sex. I don't watch much tv anymore.

In defence of Westworld, it was very cold and clinical. Not titillating at all.
