But there are many, hundreds of thousands who do like those book reviews, the engagement on those posts seem to be really high so I think your opinion is the minority

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 21:48

It just boggles my mind that there are parents out there so blatantly profiteering off their children’s privacy and when it’s called out as the ethically dubious practice that it is, there are those who would jump to their defence as if it’s perfectly fine to share a picture of your kids with 1 million+ people every day for money.

It’s bananas. Confused

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 21:49

Well that explains Brexit then.

CadyHeron · 10/07/2018 21:50

Equally you could say that from glancing through threads, that people talk about numerous things, this thread has had very little to do with the OD's but as soon as they're mentioned the same names pop up to sneer and put down people forvhsving a different viewpoint, bitch amongst themselves about other posters in a superior way rather than constructively discuss. You end up doing exactly what you are accusing others of doing.

Who are you talking about in particular? If me I only popped on via changing my name back as someone asked where I was.Nothing to do with the ODs.

Confusssed · 10/07/2018 21:53

As I said, her book reviews do appeal to a certain, intellectually undemanding demographic. If MOD ever returned to Earth in the form of a book it would be a cheery little novel about a cupcake shop. In Cornwall. At Christmas.

Furfugsache · 10/07/2018 21:53

The book reviews engagement is definitely NOT higher than other posts. That is most definitely #fakenews

ARumDo · 10/07/2018 21:55

If one of them, just one of them, came on here to defend their behaviour, to talk about online child security, depression in our teens caused by peer pressure....... etc, etc, then I (a caring, selfless, vocational, professional parent) would welcome the conversation....... but they won't/can't .......... because they are too busy counting their piles of money

Fluffyrainbows · 10/07/2018 21:55

Hundreds of thousands who do like those book reviews.
Best comment of the thread.

allaboardtheallergybus · 10/07/2018 21:56

Her latest book review has 1.2k comments her Vogue ad has 82

Furfugsache · 10/07/2018 21:57

Her living room and bikini are a lot more popular than the book reviews. What planet are you on?

Confusssed · 10/07/2018 21:58

In all fairness, Mumsnet probably isn't the demographic they want to court. They know they would be a lamb to the slaughter if they ventured on here and tried to defend their actions. Why would they put themselves through it?

allaboardtheallergybus · 10/07/2018 21:58

MP, Susie, MOD and a few others have engaged on these or other threads and handled some tricky questioning well. MP has admitted she doesn’t have the answers re child privacy but no longer features her older daughter.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 10/07/2018 21:58

I don't see many people defending the child exploitation to be fair. I certainly wouldn't. It's the personal comments, they're uncalled for and don't add anything to the discussion. It'll just end up in the thread being pulled all together too. It also gives lots of ammunition for the influencers to say "they're all just vipers and bitches etc etc". Rather than taking note of some of what's being said about things like ad transparency.

Fluffyrainbows · 10/07/2018 22:02

The trouble is when people discuss the use of children and the accounts that do this, it's accused of being fake and an excuse to just bitch. Lots of eye rolling and it's their right to do what they want with their kids.

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 22:04

You’re conflating observation with personal attack.

I think it’s entirely valid to say that the response to the criticism about ethics wasn’t that intelligent. And the subsequent online behaviour hasn’t been particularly smart either.

The whole premise of instagram influencing is based on shallowness. That’s not a personal attack, just a statement of fact. It’s not really the platform for deep, analytic thinkers is is it?

Moonkissedlegs · 10/07/2018 22:05

As I said, her book reviews do appeal to a certain, intellectually undemanding demographic.

Nicely put!

Fluffyrainbows · 10/07/2018 22:05

She's done an ad for Vogue? Then she really doesn't need her husband selling her kids, or to share their precious moments...

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 22:05

Or are you upset that I said I thought FOD was a twerp?

Moonkissedlegs · 10/07/2018 22:08

Her latest book review has 1.2k comments her Vogue ad has 82

That is because Eleanor Oliphant is the book of the moment and everyone just has to chime in to say how much they love Eleanor.

He other reviews didn't get anywhere near that many comments.

CadyHeron · 10/07/2018 22:08

But yet you're on Instagram and follow accounts Grin are you lumping yourself in with the non deep, non analytic thinkers? You'd think you'd follow something a bit more high brow if you thought like that.

Fluffyrainbows · 10/07/2018 22:09

twerp
twəːp/Submit
nouninformal
a silly or annoying person.

Fairly accurate and not insulting. That's his USP.

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 22:10

I get my deep analysis fix elsewhere than Instagram Cady. It’s not the only app on the planet you know!

But if I want shallow spaff, insta’s my first part of call.

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 22:11

*port

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 10/07/2018 22:14

I didn't see the twerp comment. Your earlier comments about MOD today were blunt and nasty, never mind how you try and defend and put them into context now princess. Like I've said, I'm not a huge OD fan. But are they doing much wrong right now? (Continued child exploitation aside!)

HRHCatherinePrincessofWales · 10/07/2018 22:19

You can’t put the child exploitation to one side! That’s at the heart of the whole debate. Without the child exploitation FOD’s account wouldn’t exist.

But since you ask, ‘aside’ from the child exploitation (!), there’s the issue of the tacit condoning of bullying in the comments and the nasty and intimidating DMs to other, less high profile, dissenting influencers.

But other than those two things, yeah, I’m sure they’re really mediocre people you’d happily chat to at a party for ten minutes on your way to the loo.
