To ask, do you/OH wear a wedding ring?

Just curious really.

My rings are gold which was fashionable at the time, but I don't particularly like them now as almost all the rest of my jewellery is silver. (I did look into getting them dipped, but the setting of the stones means it would be very awkward) So whether or not I wear them depends on what else I'm wearing. I do wear them sometimes but it's hit and miss. Probably 50/50 I'd say.
I don't wear them to work or the gym (safety reasons) but will almost always wear them on a night out.

MIL CONSTANTLY comments on it, so much so that I've taken to deliberately NOT wearing them around her, I know it's childish but as far as I'm concerned, it's none of her business anyway.

DH always wears his ring. He's not bothered whether I do or not and if he didn't wear one it wouldn't bother me either.

Just wondering whether people wear them always or whether, like me, they come on and off?

I do and never take them off. They are not a fashion statement so I don't care if they don't go with the rest of my jewellery or clothes. My DH always wears his too. I would be less than impressed if he took his off.

Pinkprincess - why wouldn’t you be impressed if your DH decided not to wear his ring? Surely it’s his decision? Does it matter?

SailOnSea · 17/06/2018 21:28

It would matter to me too if DH took off his ring. That wouldn't go over particularly well with me.

spontaneousgiventime · 17/06/2018 21:29

We both wore them. Mine is a very tiny yellow gold band which I love. My husbands was wider yellow band. When he died I wore it on a chain for a while, it's now in a box in a drawer. I still wear mine and add my engagement and eternity rings when I go out.

Allyg1185 · 17/06/2018 21:29

I wear mine but dh doesn't but thats because hes lost 6st since we got married and needs to get it resized but wants to wait till he gets to his target weight

Batmanthedude · 17/06/2018 21:33

I never take mine off, dh wears his out the house but as soon as home takes it off. He doesn't like wearing in shower which he does as soon as in, goes back on in morning

Thesearmsofmine · 17/06/2018 21:34

Neither of us wear them. I am not a fan of rings, I find them annoying.
DH has weird joints so never had a ring.

MixedHerbs · 17/06/2018 21:40

I still wear my Argos wedding ring purchased in 1992, although I have posher ones upstairs in their boxes.
DH used to wear his too, until The Totally Unnecessary and Stupid Welding Incident. Least said, soonest mended but that finger will never look the same again.

Gottokondo · 17/06/2018 21:41

Mine is yellow and white gold so it either goes with everything or nothing probably nothing. I wear it all the time except when I'm blacksmithing or goldsmithing to keep it safe. If I can saw in my finger I reckon I could accidentally saw in my ring too. DH almost never wears his, only when we go to a party or wedding or something like.

I decided that wedding rings don't need to match with anything. People wear them their whole lives and it's about the significance, not the fashion.

AreWeDoingThisNow · 17/06/2018 21:42

We both wear ours all the time. Plain platinum bands.

We chose plain platinum because we wanted something that wouldn't get damaged or grubby or be uncomfortable so didn't need to be taken off.

I only wear my engagement ring on special occasions because it white gold and would get scratched by the wedding ring. Also would get snagged scratched and grubby in everyday life.

Neither of us wear any other jewellery (since DD snapped my favourite necklace - might start wearing them again now she's older)

DinoSn0re · 17/06/2018 21:42

We both stopped wearing our wedding rings around the time we had DD1. We’re both a bit obsessive about cleanliness and constantly having to remove our rings to wash our hands after nappy changes etc seemed a faff and we’ve just never gone back to wearing them.

WaitrosePigeon · 17/06/2018 21:43

My husband doesn’t wear a ring. He’s not that fond of jewellery and wouldn’t be able to wear it at work anyway.

I wear my engagement ring and wedding ring. Engagement ring comes off for work because it’s big and could catch a patient.

MidnightAura · 17/06/2018 21:48

DH and I both wear our wedding rings and I wear my engagement ring too. I love them both. I wouldn’t be too happy if DH stopped wearing his.

jpclarke · 17/06/2018 21:52

We both wear our rings, the only time I have ever taken off is when I went to hospital to have my babies. When I look st my husband wearing his ring, it always makes me smile.

musicinthe00ssucks · 17/06/2018 21:54

I love my wedding and engagement rings so wear them all the time. DH gets eczema on his finger if he wears his so he doesn't. My dad never wears his wedding ring either so I'm used to not seeing men wearing wedding rings

nokidshere · 17/06/2018 21:55

I've worn my wedding ring every day since I got it 31 yrs ago, dh has lost 2 so now doesn't have one. I can't wear mine right now because arthritis in my fingers means it won't go over my knuckle so am about to have it resized.

RhubarbRhubarbRhubarbRhubarb · 17/06/2018 21:56

I wear mine all the time. I think dh wears his all the time too.

seven201 · 17/06/2018 21:57

I wear mine all the time. Dh just got a cheap one for the day as he wouldn't ever wear a ring.

Racecardriver · 17/06/2018 22:05

Neither of us do. Husband keeps loosing his. Mine got bent (very thin band) and I never got a replacement.

tootiredtofunction · 17/06/2018 22:30

I feel naked without my rings- engagement, wedding and eternity, the only time I ever take them off is to play sport but always put straight back on after. DH can't wear his for work and rarely remembers the rest of the time doesn't really bother me.

CantankerousCamel · 17/06/2018 22:31

I do, I adore it, it’s the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen

thewalrus · 17/06/2018 22:31

DH wears his. I don't because it's got a bit tight and gives me blisters. My FIL asked if we'd had an argument the first time he noticed I wasn't wearing it!!

InappropriateGavels · 17/06/2018 22:33

He does, I don't.

His is titanium and he couldn't wear it for quite a while due to fluid retention but now he can. Mine is ceramic and I've lost a good two stone since we got married so it just falls off now.

We get questions about it occasionally, the most recent one was "when are you going to get a wedding and engagement ring?" I proposed to him, so I don't have an engagement ring.

FASH84 · 17/06/2018 22:34

I do unless I'm handling raw meat/doing something messy with my hands in the kitchen or gardening. I also take mine off to shower as they both have stones and I don't want them getting gunked up with conditioner etc. DH does too, he also takes his off to shower, not sure why I think maybe it's something he's seen me do (I have a little ring dish by the sink), but his ring is plain.
