As every time there’s an incident the police ask people if they have any cctv footage or dash cam footage

Be careful what you wish for.

That would be my idea of hell. No way do I want to be monitored every time I step out my house.

BasilFaulty · 16/06/2018 18:27

Well, yes, as a police officer it certainly would make my job a hell of a lot easier. I do think though generally people don't realise how much CCTV there is that is monitored live, especially in town centres. The camera operatives will call up at least half a dozen times a day to get us to an incident happening in real time because people just don't think they'll be being watched.

LardLizard · 16/06/2018 18:34

Why be careful what you wish for ?
I’m not doing or going to do anything wrong

OP posts:
swanlife · 16/06/2018 18:37

You might not be doing anything wrong but that still doesn't mean you want people watching. Should we all make our internet history public because you'd only hide it if you're doing something wrong?
I understand the want for safety and security but personal freedom has to be taken into account.

lostincake · 16/06/2018 18:39

Why? The UK is already a fucking police state as it is!

FuckPants · 16/06/2018 18:39

I agree, would also like DNA database of everyone.

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/06/2018 18:45

How would you feel if we had a government that you were totally opposed to? You may be comfortable about CCTV being used to catch people breaking the law, but what about when "breaking the law" extends to peaceful demonstration about things you feel strongly about? What about when the abundant CCTV footage starts coming into the public domain eg through hacking or bored operatives putting stuff on to social media.

LardLizard · 16/06/2018 18:45

Yes I want a dna database of every single person too

Do you admire Putin and Trump? Can you not see how dangerous it'd be going down that road?

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 16/06/2018 18:50

Christ no.

Do you track your family via location apps?

LardLizard · 16/06/2018 18:50

Can’t stand trump and don’t know that much about that other

I don’t think that’s anything like trump

OP posts:
LardLizard · 16/06/2018 18:51

No I don’t, but if one of them was hurt by someone I’d want that to be recorded on cctv or dna database

Slippery slope

Mum2jenny · 16/06/2018 19:05

I'm pretty law abiding but I do not want, nor think there's any necessity for, 24 hour surveillance in this country.
There are plenty cctvs around. I'd be more interested in ensuring they were being used for appropriate purposes.

54321go · 16/06/2018 19:08

You mean you might like the idea of camera operatives watching you try to discretely scratch an itch on your bum?
Although the police are generally trustworthy, until they get to senior levels it seems, they are only human and potential 'bad apples'.

polarpercy · 16/06/2018 19:13

On the one hand I totally think scary totalitarian state and no way would I support that.

On the other hand our next door neighbour violently assaulted my husband which my 4 year old witnessed. He has since lied to the police and entered a not guilty plea and now we face the stress of court, so CCTV would have shown him for the nasty drunk bully that he is.

CircleSquareCircleSquare · 16/06/2018 19:15

And what about when we have CCTV in every street and people start calling for cameras in homes (many TVs already have them and devices like iPhones, Alexa etc. log what we are up to)?

polarpercy · 16/06/2018 19:15

Sorry I didn't mean to spoil the thread I just feel really demoralised since finding out that he has form for this sort of shit.

BeefyCakes · 16/06/2018 19:18

Have you ever read 1984?

LanaKanesTerfyVagina · 16/06/2018 19:22

Fuck no
The police cannot be trusted, politicians cannot be trusted.
It would have ramifications.

Say a government decided that people legitimately protesting, r agitating against them should be tracked down and rounded up.
What checks will there be to stop such an abuse of power?
Who would be able to stop it?
