To be fucking furious that a Tory MP just prevented upskirting being made a criminal offence?

Tory MP Christopher Chope has just singlehandedly prevented the passing of the private members bill supported by the government that would have made upskirting a sexual offence, by shouting Object.

Can I urge you all to leave a message on his parliamentary office answerphone and email him to ask why he thinks men should be entitled to photograph women's genitalia?

I thought he blocked it as he wanted a proper debate on the subject with more than a handful of no present.

But there does need to be a law on this and how is England 8 years behind Scotland who made this an offence back on 2010? Why is England so behind?

Youdontknowwhatyouthinkyoudo · 15/06/2018 16:56

Rather than an answer phone message - I've made a freedom of information request.

Given Mr Christopher Chope MP recent public objection to a private members bill that would hold to accout those who violate the privacy of members of the public, under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would like to request a list of:

i) The electronic devices operated by Christopher Chope MP provided by or supported by the House of Commons that fall under the remit of the freedom of information act.

ii) The number of photographic images storded on each device that contain phtographic data that would have been considered to be an "Upskirt" photograph under the proposals contained within the Voyeurism (Offences) Bill 2017-19 as debated in parliament on the 15th June 2018.

I would also request details of the methodology used to determine:

  • The details requested in section i above
  • The details requested in section ii above
  • That the information subject to this request that was stored on devices listed in section i was not removed from said devices before the counts performed in section ii were realised.

That should get an official response...

Not surprised.

It doesn't impact him so who cares, right?

Bet he's covering his arse as he's done similar in his youth and if it comes about he won't get arrested now.

Fightthebear · 15/06/2018 16:59

MPs often have to get back to their constituencies on Friday afternoon and Parliamentary time is extremely limited.

Passing second reading doesn’t make it law, it allows the draft legislation to go forward to the next stage of consideration.

Unbelievably pedantic and obstructive for what has cross party support.

NameChangedAgain18 · 15/06/2018 16:59

Most MPs do constituency work in Fridays, that is also an important part of their jobs. There is a big problem in the scheduling of these bills, as well as with the way in which MPs can sabotage them by fillibustering and other antics.

Anyone who votes tory should hang their heads in shame

Why, if they genuinely believe they're the best of the current options? He is the only MP who did this, and speaks for himself only. Many others have expressed their disgust.

PlantsOfPerspective · 15/06/2018 17:05

Ah, okay Fight and Name. The whole scheduling thing needs to be reviewed then - it's clearly important.

SoddingUnicorns · 15/06/2018 17:06

Many others have expressed their disgust

When? At the time? Just like they sat and said nothing when another Tory MP this week saw fit to make a joke about suicide? They were suspiciously quiet then too, funnily enough.

gracielacey · 15/06/2018 17:08

Heaven forbid that an MP should want to actually debate a bill rather than just pushing it through

@QueenDoris
@Buggered

He's the fucking reason it didn't get debated - he and Philip Davies filibustered the bill before for 3 hours so that this bill wouldn't even get a debate.

His fucking fault.

SoddingUnicorns · 15/06/2018 17:09

Filibustering should be illegal. It’s about the most undemocratic thing I can think of, and it is appalling.

LimboLuna · 15/06/2018 17:12

Has anyone seen the loophole lawyers (Nick Freeman) tweet?

^Whilst this is totally unacceptable conduct, if women
assumed some responsibility for their attire, they would not be in jeopardy. Prosecutions will only utilise valuable police and CPS
resources that should be prioritised elsewhere. #upskirting^

Nquartz · 15/06/2018 17:13

Who to please?

Soubriquet · 15/06/2018 17:14

I've emailed. Also put it on fb

Shame on him

busybarbara · 15/06/2018 17:18

My theory is he owns a trouser company

I posted this on another thread. I then looked at the voting record for these two pricks and ‘jokingly’ asked ffs are these two MRAs only to be told that yes, in the case of Philip Davies, he is. I’m rarely lost for words, and in the absence of coherent and sensible argument l rarely resort to swearing but, for fucks cunting fucking sake, what the fuck is going on?

SinisterBumFacedCat · 15/06/2018 17:22

Signed petition

So angry, when I saw this on the news this morning I thought "great some good news for women for a change".

Then one cunt goes and fucks it up.

MissBartlettsconscience · 15/06/2018 17:22

God, Nick Freeman is stupid.

eggncress · 15/06/2018 17:23

Maybe we should start a petition to have his ‘objection’ challenged.

Miserysquared · 15/06/2018 17:25

His objection isn't to a Bill to criminalise upskirting, it is an objection to the creation of a criminal offence that hasn't been debated. The fact it was this BIll is inconsequential to him to be fair.

CarefullyDrawnMap · 15/06/2018 17:27

That Nick Freeman tweet is a fucking disgrace.

PortiaCastis · 15/06/2018 17:27

Have e-mailed and expressed my disgust

LauderSyme · 15/06/2018 17:31

I've just read about Gina Martin, the woman who spearheaded the campaign to make upskirting a criminal offence after it happened to her. She snatched the man's phone and showed it to police officers but they took no action and closed her case four days later.

And when she spoke out about it, she was - naturally - bombarded with rape threats.

These are all incidences of the continuum of misogynistic sexual abuse which is malign, pervasive and inexorable.

It is so fucking tedious, womanhood wise, to have to keep explaining why our culture of male sexual entitlement is bad.

I'm glad Christopher Chope is being held accountable for his outrageous objection to what is surely basic fucking common decency, no?

I mean, I don't imagine Mr Chope would find it difficult to explain to a stranger why he would object to them taking secret photos of his cock for probable wanking over later. Would he?

itsbritneybiatch · 15/06/2018 17:33

I went with a Simple

"I'm reading with interest about your objection to make Upskirting illegal.

I would like to hear your reasons behind this"

What a dickhead.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 15/06/2018 17:39

Just seen this on twitter
